Re: Marvel Tokon Making Refinements Based on Player Feedback in the Run Up to Launch

PuppetMaster

@nolifebr You should read @MrPeanutbutterz reply.

Today fighting games is actually more accessible and has more contents compare in the past. Easy example:
SF II: World Warrior on SNES was launch at $60 and only have 8 characters in the base roster and 2 modes (Arcade and Versus). There's no training mode, no online match, no unlockable for different costumes / colors, no unlocked stage, no unlocked BGM, artworks, etc. You can't even pick the same character as your opponent. Very barebone for $60.

Compare it with SF VI was $60 at launch and it has 18 characters in the base roster, a beefy single player World Tour mode, Battle Hub where you can played plenty of classic Capcom arcade games (Final Fight, Ghost 'N Goblins, classic SF II etc), watch live tournaments, as well superb online match, and Fighting Ground that includes Arcade, Versus, Training, Tutorials, Combo Trials, Ranked match, Lobby, Gallery, etc. You can also unlocked new stage, alternate costumes and colors, artworks, BGM, and announcer without spending a single cent. For $60, the base game offer thousands of hours of contents. Heck, balance update is always FREE unlike in the past where you must buy a new game.

Season pass DLC is usually $20 or less if you wait for a discount. If you don't want to buy season pass then you have the option to buy per character which is cheaper.

You're also free to wait for "Complete edition" or "GotY edition" that includes every DLC and updates. But when that edition release, people already preparing for a new game.

It's your choice...

Re: More God of War PS5 Details Leak, Out in 2027 with New Protagonist

PuppetMaster

@Ludacritz Unfair comparison. Capcom and Nintendo are two GIANT companies with thousands of employee and multiple divisions. It's normal for them to pumped out plenty of IP's. Compare to Santa Monica which is purely a gaming devs with only 200 employees and GoW as their bread and butter IP.

Sure Santa Monica can make a new IP since they did Kinetica before GoW. But after GoW revival in 2018, right now the best route for them is to focus and keeps the momentum high for the series rather than divide their resources for a new IP.

Re: Opinion: If Sony's Doubling Down on Its Most Popular Franchises, Where's Uncharted?

PuppetMaster

@RoomWithaMoose "People can desire a balance of supporting established franchises while exploring new IP, and Sony can simultaneously fail at both."

There's also an option to keep going on with established franchise and refresh it like it's a new IP.

But like i said, making a new IP alone is a Herculean task. You need full resources and commitment to support and established it or it will end up as a massive failure. In the same time you also needs to keep your established franchise at high quality or the fans will complaint and stop buying.

That's why devs, especially the ones who has limited resources, needs to choose carefully if they should keep going on with established IP or move on to a new one.

For ND, it's pretty clear they don't have enough resources to juggle between established franchise and a new IP. They can't juggle between Uncharted, TloU, and a new IP like Intergalactic. Hence why there's no new Uncharted for 8-9 years and looks like TloU is also in a semi-dormant state because they focus on Intergalactic.

Re: Marvel Tokon Making Refinements Based on Player Feedback in the Run Up to Launch

PuppetMaster

This is what Highguard devs should do; hold multiple beta test and take players feedback before release the game. But eh, i guess it's too late for them

Anyway. I trust ArcSys understood their job. This isn't their first rodeo so i expect a polished and fun game at launch.

@nolifebr "I grew up playing fighting games that were complete at launch, with you having to progress to unlock new characters"

Which games are you talking about here?

Re: 'What the F*ck Is This?': God of War Creator Hates First TV Show Image

PuppetMaster

I remember people mocked Robert Pattinson Batman when the 1st image shown with him in the suit. They cried Batman looks skinny etc. But after the trailer and movie came out, people changed their mind lol.

Anyway. The usual negative reaction from the senile old man who became a grifter and hold a grudge against Sony 🙄

Sure Amazon could used a better picture for Kratos and Areus. But the show is in early production and it could be better in motion + after some sfx.

Re: Opinion: If Sony's Doubling Down on Its Most Popular Franchises, Where's Uncharted?

PuppetMaster

Uncharted has:

  • 5 games for console
  • 1 game for handheld
  • 2 games for mobile
  • 2 remaster
  • 1 live act movie which could be 2 in the future
  • A couple of comics & novel
  • A theme park attraction

It's funny how some people keeps demanding Sony / ND to make a new IP. But now they want ND to go back to Uncharted while also complaining "too many Horizon" and "too many GoW" lol. Did these people just realize now that making a new IP with selling power as good as Uncharted, GoW, or Horizon is a Herculean task and publisher / devs should try as hard as they can to keep the IP fresh before completely done and moves on to a new one?

Anyway. At this point Uncharted is pretty much done and in dormant state, unless ND decided the series deserves a revisit / revival.

Re: Rumour: God of War Dev Working on 'A New Franchise Within the God of War Universe'

PuppetMaster

@Th3solution Yeah we got plenty of games with samurai, ninja, and feudal Japan but not many that focus on Japanese myth let alone play as a deity. On top of my head, Okami is the most recognizeable one since we played as Amaterasu and the setting is far before feudal Japan. Outside that, there's Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines.

And GoW with Japan myth could attract Japanese gamers and boost the series popularity in Japan. Although Santa Monica need to do it really well without disrespecting the culture.

Re: Rumour: God of War Dev Working on 'A New Franchise Within the God of War Universe'

PuppetMaster

@CheesyOatcake At this point, either some people like it or not, they need to accept the fact that GoW is Santa Monica bread and butter, just like how GT for Polyphony or MLB for San Diego.

There's no reason for Santa Monica to moved on from GoW after they worked really hard and successfully revived the franchise with The Norse saga. Now the franchise is in 2nd peak popularity with Norse saga alone sold almost 40 million copies and boost the franchise as Sony 2nd best selling IP after GT. So it's normal for them to keep the momentum going and fans demands as long as they can.

And sure, a new IP would be nice but creating a new one that will sell well and popular enough to become a franchise is a herculean task and comes with big risk too. We've seen many new IP come and go without getting a fair chance to shine.

So it's not wrong for Santa Monica to keep working on a long running franchise like GoW but with a new idea / different approach that makes it feel like a new IP. Example with Nintendo who already did it for decades with their long running IP's like Zelda, Metroid, DK etc.

Re: Hands On: Marathon Is Dense, Demanding, and Drop Dead Gorgeous

PuppetMaster

@Sanquine Thanks for the info 🍻

Average 40K-70K for Steam alone are quite a lot and that's higher compare to SF 6 open beta test for Steam which was around 32K.

But low or high beta test numbers doesn't mean the game will be automaticly d.o.a or a huge success. SF 6 managed to sell 2 million copies in the first month despite open beta players only got 32K players on Steam. So Marathon could sell well but we'll see.

Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims

PuppetMaster

@TrollOfWar Maybe i'm not making my question clear. What i asked was the proof of "a large percentage of PC gamers also own consoles including PS5" like Gemini53 claim. Your first link only said growth for PC and console players, not how many of PC players also own consoles or a PS5.

As for your 2nd link, that 30-40% revenue was mostly from Helldivers 2 which wasn't by 1st party studio. But we're talking about Sony 1st party studio revenue from PC which is only 2%, not PS studios business as a whole or their collab with 3rd party studios like Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2 etc.

So...i think you're not debunking anything here buddy. If there's really 800-900 million PC gamers around the world like that survey claim and Sony still decided to scalled down their 1st party release for PC then the allegation about the majority of PCMR gang doesn't like nor buy Sony 1st party games & PS console is pretty much true 😃

Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims

PuppetMaster

@Gemini53 "It's a common misconception that ALL PC gamers own monster rigs. Even so not all those with a powerful rig "hate consoles". Again, only a very small minority."

I think you speak only for yourself here, not the rest of PCMR gangs.

"There are literally millions of people who are gaming on PC, more than PlayStation, Xbox and Switch combined and a large percentage of them also own consoles - including PS5"

Oh really? Where did you got this stats? Did you surveyed millions after millions of PC owners?

And if there's hundreds of millions of PC gamers more than PS, Xbox, and Nintendo combined then Sony should earned more than 2% revenue from PC release and scale up their PC strategy right? The math doesn't add up here with your claim and more of a hard proof that the majority of PC gamers didn't buy consoles.

"The narrative you hold is, I'm afraid to say, pretty much of your own creation based on a handful of poor experiences with a minority group"

You can't blame me for my experiences when PCMR gangs are the ones who build their own negative image just like that. You should talk to them if they can tone down their hate on consoles and stop acting as if they're super elite than console only owners, not here insulting me and acting as if there's only a few bad apples 🤷‍♂️

"Assuming you don't own a gaming PC yourself and only a PS5 it's ironically you that is missing out, not the brunt of PC gamers."

Years ago i used to owned a gaming PC, a decent one, along with my consoles. But i've experienced many headaches with gaming PC and decided to go full console. I learnt my lesson and no i'm not missing out anything 🤷‍♂️

"Choice is king, my friend"

Again. Who said there's no choice? 🤷‍♂️

Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims

PuppetMaster

@Gemini53 I never say they can't buy a PS5 🤷‍♂️

But the question is would they buy a gaming machine that is weaker than their expensives gaming rig?

I mean, i've seen with my own eyes where plenty of PCMR said they hate PS and how they don't want to create a PSN account or shop on PS store for whatever reasons. So i have a big doubt that they will gladly spend $500 for a PS5 just to play Sony games like God of War, Wolverine, or Intergalactic.

Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims

PuppetMaster

I think PCMR will be okay if they didn't get Ghost of Yotei, Wolverine, Saros, Intergalactic, Astro Bot, GT 7, GoW Trilogy remake, Demon's Souls remake, Bloodborne, and more Sony 1st party single player games. I mean, they have indies, emulator, modding, piracy, and flexing how big and powerful they rig is to keep them busy for years 😃

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 622

PuppetMaster

Finished:
Vagrant Story (Vita)
Finally done with my 2nd playthrough. After more than two decade, my stand for this game still not change. I'm confidently say this is one of the best RPG in gaming history, one of the best game that Square ever made, and it rightfully deserves a 10/10. There will be no RPG that looks, plays, and sounds like this anymore. Salute to Yasumi Matsuno, Akihiko Yoshida, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Hiroshi Minagawa, and the rest of the team for created a masterpiece 🙇‍♂️🫡

Playing:

  • Suikoden I (Vita)
I have this game along with Suikoden II and III on my backlog for years. It's time to finish it.
  • Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (Vita)
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (Vita)

I hope everyone have a good weekend. Cheers 🍻

Re: Hands On: Marathon Is Dense, Demanding, and Drop Dead Gorgeous

PuppetMaster

It's so weird to see some commenters in here goes nuclear in anger and screaming "shill" or "toxic positivity" just because they see people being positive and praise the game artstyle / graphic. The entitlement level for "everyone needs to be negative just because i don't like this game" is off the chart.

I'm not even buying this game since extraction genre isn't my thing. But i still can appreciate the interesting premise and sci-fi-neon-kinda retro artstyle. And yes, the collectors edition also looks cool which i'm not gonna buy it. But i guess i'm a shill for saying that lol

Re: Shuttered Dev Bluepoint Wanted to Remake Bloodborne, FromSoftware Blocked It

PuppetMaster

@Yor-sama "Now we 100% say that Miyazaki is one of the big causes for bluepoint closing"

? Miyazaki isn't the one who leads and mismanaged PS studio and Bluepoint.

@LogicStrikesAgain Maybe Bluepoint pitch looks uninspired. But that's normal since they're a small studio and it was the 1st time they work as a subsidiary under a big company like Sony.

The obligation to managed and inspired Bluepoint with better pitches that utilized Bluepoint expertise is still rest on Sony or in this case Hermen hands as PS studio CEO. But we all knew that Hermen wants all live service nuggets just like Jimbo did.

Re: Hands On: Marathon Is Dense, Demanding, and Drop Dead Gorgeous

PuppetMaster

"A long-lost colony ship named the Marathon has sent out a distress signal for the first time in over 100 years, and the megacorps are scrambling to salvage what they can of their investment. That’s where you come in. You’re a runner, an uploaded consciousness in a synthetic shell, tasked with retrieving salvage and trying to piece together what happened to the Marathon and its colonies on Tau Ceti IV."

This is an interesting premise and i'm baffled with Bungie didn't bother to even make a story campaign that can be finish in 5-8 hours. If people feel invested with the story and lore, i think they don't mind to play some multiplayer PvP with their friends or randos.

Re: Shuttered Dev Bluepoint Wanted to Remake Bloodborne, FromSoftware Blocked It

PuppetMaster

I'll take this news, the Bloodborne remake part, with a grain of salt.

I mean, Miyazaki said people should ask Sony for Bloodborne remake but now they're the one who blocked the project? It just...doesn't make sense. Unless there's a hidden bad blood between Sony and From Soft, especially after Deracine flop and the way Shuhei said about the original Demon's Souls.

In the end, Hermen is still the clown for mismanaged Bluepoint and blocked their pitches. Say Bloodborne remake is off the table because From Soft said no. But he could greenlight other projects for Bluepoints:

  • ICO remake which i thought they would follow up after SotC remake
  • Legend of Dragoon remake
  • Tsushima spin-off which i think it's a cool idea and could satisfy people who wants more Jin adventure
  • Or multiple remasters for Resistance, Killzone, Syphon Filter, Heavenly Sword, Wild Arms, Socom, or anything from Sony dormant IP's that never received remaster / remake. I doubt remaster cost as much as a remake.
  • Heck. Why not ask Bluepoint to do Uncharted spin-off? People still asking for a new Uncharted and a spin-off with Sully or Chloe could sell well.

Re: Turns Out You Can Access God of War: Sons of Sparta's Locked-Off Co-Op Mode Early

PuppetMaster

@NeuralDeclan Good for you if you had fun and believe it deserves a 6/10. But your personal review doesn't carry more weight compare to others who gave higher scores.

And i believe the game isn't the only thing to celebrate the series anniversary. I mean, they also announced the trilogy remake, already released free Dark Odyssey DLC for Ragnarok, a retrospective book, and other stuff.

Re: Turns Out You Can Access God of War: Sons of Sparta's Locked-Off Co-Op Mode Early

PuppetMaster

Lmao at all the "It's false marketing! The title is Sons of Sparta! See?! With an S! His brother also in front cover! Give me a refund Sonyyyy! Waaaaaaaaa!!!!" outrage 🤣

I can't imagine the outrage from those people if they live in the 90's when they see Akuma in the front cover for Super SF II Turbo but his character portrait doesn't show up in character select screen without cheat code 🤣. Heck, you can't fight him in arcade mode unless you played without a single continues and grab multiple perfect ko's until the last stage. They must be really mad at Capcom 🤣

Re: Marathon Collector's Edition Might Be the Best We've Ever Seen

PuppetMaster

Yeah it looks nice. But a CE price at 270 bones that doesn't come with physical copy + steelbook? That's a tough pill to swallowed, unless you got it free from the publisher.

It still weird though that Sony stop including physical copy for their CE. Feels as if Sony pushed collectors to buy two editions, standard + CE, if they want a physical copy which is a very scummy practice...
