Re: With Digital Game Sales at 90%, Capcom Appears Unfazed By Sony's Disc-Free Future

PuppetMaster

@Dman10 I enjoyed both: playing + collecting. That's the full / complete gaming experience for me. If the games are good then they deserves a place on my shelf, like a classic painting where i can see and check them anytime i want.

If that doesn't makes sense to you then that's okay. I don't ask anyone especially the all digital only believers to understand physical fans like me.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@naruball I think all SIE good executives from Kaz, Shu, Shawn, Andrew, and the 3rd party relations guy like Adam Boyes already left. But yeah, like you said right now they feels like a completely different company.

I seriously doubt people like Nishino and Hermen have the skills to make PS6 successful. Heck, i'm not surprise if the console ended up worst than PS3.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@ShadowRJ I believe the current Sega president, Shuji Utsumi, is an old timer Sega employee. He, funnily, was one of SCEA founders before joined Sega America in 96 and back to Sega Sammy in 2019.

But yeah, it's true what you said about executives who started the business are usually a lotttt more passionate compare to their successors. Sadly now their successors are ruining their baby...

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@naruball It's unfortunate that Sony didn't have higher ups like Kaz Hirai and Shu anymore, who didn't mind bowing their head in a press conference because they've hugely dissapointed their costumers. Now we got smug bean counters like Nishino and Hermen who only care about the numbers and acting like it was nothing after they made bad decisions or closing down studios.

It's just sucks watching one of my favorite gaming company and platform ended up like this. sigh...

But i guess it's a blessing in disguise for me. Now i can focus more on my backlog, go retro, or maybe try other platforms like Switch.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@naruball

Yes, most of ps players are casuals, but casuals buy whatever is considered cool. Whatever their friends have. So, when a large percentage of the hardcore abandon Sony, PS will also lose the casuals

By the time Sony realized they're lossing their hardcore fanbase as well their casuals fanbase and it'll heavily affected their hardware and software revenue, it will be too late for them. But i'm gonna enjoy their reaction especially their smug CFO who claim the backlash have zero effect to their business.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@UnlimitedSevens

I had been led to believe none of us existed anymore. Restored my faith in humanity a bit.

People like us who buys and loves physical games / movies / music / books are still exist. Sadly, the media keeps false reporting as if we already gone.

But yeah, it's time for the backlogs. I'm saving money for Sega MD 2 + PS2 as well a bunch of PS3 and 3DS games that i never played but heard it's pretty good like Hitman Absolution, Remember Me, Enslaved, Transformers War of Cybertron, Metroid Samus Returns etc.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@TheSingularity

fairly obvious who the triggered ones are on here and all the other articles!

That's ironic coming from you, one of the guy who keeps getting triggered at other people comments in every single articles about physical games.

Your comment history shows it all buddy. So you should find a mirror and don't click this type of news while raging at other people. I mean, this isn't about you or any people who loves consuming everything without questions.

I'm sure Sony are chuckling at your performative outrage just as much as the rest of us.

Unless you're working at Sony, I'm chuckling at people like you who keeps making excuses for a billion dollar company, as if they care about what you did in here.

Re: Disc-Based PS5s Now Warn Buyers About the Impending Death of Physical Games

PuppetMaster

@asdfghjklz

People who get this triggered about changes in technology need some serious help

No they don't need it at all. But on the other hand people like you who keeps making excuses for a billion dollar company and got triggered at people who doesn't agree with their decisions really needs help.

There was no outrage when Steam replaced DVDs with digital downloads.

So you're saying monkey see monkey do? Just stay silent like PC gamers and nods and consume at whatever Sony do? No thanks.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls PS5 Review?

PuppetMaster

@Brundleflies21 Are you gonna ignore how badly barebone most old fighting games was before PS3 era?

  • No tutorial at all and if they had it was very bad
  • No online match
  • No different outfits
  • You want balance and gameplay update as well play new characters, stages, and different colors? Buy multiple versions.
  • Lacking contents from no combo trials, very short arcade mode, small roster etc

Heck. If you bought SF II: World Warrior where you can't pick the same character as your opponent then you need to buy SF II: Champion Edition to get that feature. Meanwhile, picking the same character is a basic feature for today fighting games.

A lot if not most current fighting games gives a bang for your bucks compare to the old ones. SF 6 for example, it let you play classic arcade games like Captain Commando, Final Fight, Ghost n Goblins, SF II/Alpha, etc in the Battle Hub for free.

So it's simple; don't buy the season pass, DLC outfits, and any moneytization items. They're very optional. Just stick with the base game and free updates.

Re: Sony's New Spider-Man Movie Obliterates Expectations with Global $927 Million Haul

PuppetMaster

@sanderson72 It already confirmed for 4K UHD and Bluray release and you can pre-order it right now.
https://www.pocket-lint.com/spider-man-brand-new-day-4k-uhd-blu-ray-and-streaming-release-available/

@PercyChuggs Spider-man: No Way Home bluray & DVD sales generated more than $46 million revenue in the US alone.
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Spider-Man-No-Way-Home-(2021)

It's safe to say there will be a good demands for physical copy considering a lot of people really like this movie.

Re: Sony's New Spider-Man Movie Obliterates Expectations with Global $927 Million Haul

PuppetMaster

@DennisReynolds I'm not familiar with Jean Grey origin story pre X-Men. My first experienced with her character was in X-Men comic in the 80/90's when she's known as Marvel Girl. But i'm not surprise if she have origin story where she hurt innocent people with her power either intentionally or not. I mean, many X-Men members had that origin story. Some even a villain like Rogue, Magneto, Emma Frost, Mystique etc.

@AtlasLivesAgain They're not friends but they share respect despite their different method of saving innocent lives. In the comics they did team up multiple times.

Re: Could Xbox Get Its Revenge on PS6 by Supporting Physical Games?

PuppetMaster

99.99% sure next Xbox will not have a disc drive. MS was the first one who heavily pushed digital only with GamePass. They doesn't give a damn about "getting revenge" at Sony lol.

And people who believes PS6 will have an optional disc drive despite Sony not yet say anything about it are gonna dissapointed. Right now, this is arrogant Sony worst than early PS3 era with bean counters like Nishino and Hermen at the top. They doesn't give a damn about physical games anymore nor a "minority" of PS fans who still buy physical games. Their latest statement is a clear sign they're not gonna support disc nor anything that plays the medium.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 644

PuppetMaster

Finished:

  • Contra: Shattered Soldier (PS3)
    Untitled
    Untitled

Finally...finally...i get the good ending 😭. Probably one if not the most challenging Contra games i ever played. To get the final mission you need to play in Normal diff and get rank "A" in all 6 missions (100% hit rate, few lives lost, and almost no continue). The final boss, all of it 6 forms, are annoying af but i'm really satisfied to kicked the alien ass back to its planet ☺️

Anyway, this weekend i'm gonna play Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
Untitled

Have a nice and fun weekend everyone 🍻

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

@Flaming_Kaiser I can only say good luck to Sony. They already burning their last goodwill with a lot of PS fans with this decision to kill physical games. If they think casual gamers like the ones who plays Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, Fifa, COD etc will buy a $1000 PS6 at launch as well Sony 1st party games on day 1 then they will have a hard time selling PS6.

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

@dodgykebaab

Awful idea
Retro games are disgusting prices and are all in the hands of people who want to con the next person.

It's a good idea for gamers who still loves and appreciate physical games.

And a lot of retro games usually have affordable prices. The only ones that has "disgusting prices" usually only for limited edition, rare games, or games with very mint / like brand new condition.

I've been gaming since the Spectrum, but I only do retro via emulation.

Good for you.

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

@Silenos

This issue isn't about share prices or sales charts really though, is it? The problem for Sony is the potentially irreparable damage to the Sony brand since their clumsy announcement of digital only coming off the back of several other disastrous PR events

Exactly 🤝

I'm baffled with Lin Tao statement as if this is all about Sony revenue and the backlash will quickly take full effect from day 1. She's missing the point as if this is a sprint when it's a marathon. Losing trust from long time userbase will be an irreparable damage for Sony / PS brand in the long run.

And with todays Sony relies a lot on Playstation to keep their bottom line healthy, i'm more baffled with how they approach this issue in a very pedestrian way.

Re: 'I Feel Profoundly Disappointed': Stellar Blade Dev Destroyed for 'AI Slop' Music Video

PuppetMaster

Sure the music is pretty catchy but the video looks weird with bad lip sync and how the characters moves didn't feels / looks natural. As expected from A.I videos.

The weird thing is i bet Shift Up have plenty of talents who can produce and edit a good music video without using A.I. They can easily avoid this situation and didn't upset their fans who didn't like how AI take more role in video games. So i'm not sure why they're doing this...

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

@BentIeyma Retails can't order more copies even if they want to because publishers already limits the quantity and forced people to go digital route. I'm sure there's still healthy demands for physical games. But retails can't do much with those demands if they didn't get enough stock from publishers.

And how you can say a lot of digital games didn't get physical release is not a good argument when publishers has been planning to get rid of middle man and second hand market for years by keeps pushing for digital only release no matter if physical games still made good revenue for them. These corpos has been conditioned gamers for years to go full digital.

FYI, last year Sony alone sold 70+ million copies of PS4 and PS5 disc. Tell me again that's not an evidence physical games still sell.
https://www.tweaktown.com/news/111657/physical-media-still-going-strong-at-playstation-with-70-million-game-discs-sold-last-year/index.html

Sure physical games isn't as big as 20 years ago. But there's still a market for it, just like there's a market for vinyl, cassete tape, books, DVD / bluray movies, TCG, etc.

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

@BentIeyma RE Requiem and Pragmata PS5 disc was sold out. That alone already a solid proof that showed people did bought physical games. I believe there's also a report that showed some Sony 1st party games like Astro Bot, R&C Rift Apart, or Ghost of Yotei are sold more on physical than digital.

And we're in this situation is not because people didn't buy physical games. But one of the biggest reason is because publishers released more digital games without physical options. Tell me how i can play GoW Sons of Sparta, Ghost n' Goblins Ressurection, Kunitsu-Gami, Romeo is a Dead Man, Chrono Cross HD, or Onimusha 2 HD on PS4/5 without buying digital version? Well i can't cause there's no physical release for these games.

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect

PuppetMaster

Well the announcement was July 1st while this fiscal report only covered 3 months (April-June 30th) before the announcement. So obviously Sony will not see the slightest effect from the backlash, especially when right now there's still physical games for PS4/5.

Heck, Sony probably will get a nice little bump from physical fans who bought PS4/PS5 disc while retail still have their stocks.

But when comes to January 2028 and PS6 price revealed, we will see how this gonna turns out...

Re: Sony Knows How You Feel About No More Discs, But It's Not Going to Reverse Course

PuppetMaster

"Play has no limit" eh, right Sony?

Since Sony will not change their mind then i'm sticking with my first plan: PS5 will be my last Sony console.

After more than 30 years with Playstation, kinda sad how i'm ending my journey with the brand in this dissapointing note. But i guess life goes on. Sony have decided to move on from their long time fans who loves physical games because they care more about money. So, i'll do the same. I'm sure for next gen Sony will do just fine without me since they have support from all-digital fans and Fortnite / COD / Genshin kids who's ready to spend $1000 for PS6 and happily throw $70-80 for a digital game on day 1.

If that's going to be the only way to buy games on PS6, one would hope the company will significantly bolster its digital storefront to make it a more robust, feature-rich, and appealing place to shop.

Lel. Good luck with your wish 🍻
