Castlevania... is back! And fortunately, it looks like it's back with some serious style.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a brand new, traditionally-styled instalment in the classic series, and it's being developed by Konami, Evil Empire (Dead Cells, The Rogue Prince of Persia), and Motion Twin (also Dead Cells).
The game looks great in this reveal trailer, as our new red-headed protagonist battles through a series of dangerous locales. And yes, you come equipped with an all-powerful whip. It's about time!

The press release reveals:
"Medieval Paris, where the tolling bells herald the end. 1499, Paris is engulfed in flames as monstrous creatures suddenly emerge from the shadows. Armed with the legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor ventures into the burning streets and the looming castle to hunt down the beasts."
You can expect "satisfying whip action" which will enable you to "move around freely like a trapeze artist". But there'll also be a variety of other weapons in your arsenal, all of which will contribute to the title's "strategic" combat.
And don't worry, you can also expect the staples of the series, like secret chambers, colourful characters, and more. This, according to Konami, is the first of many new Castlevania games.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is due to release this year on PS5, but how do you feel about this revival? Whip it good in the comments section below.

This was the highlight of the show for me. I’m so happy Konami hasn’t forgotten about Castlevania, because for a long time I thought they had. This will be a day one purchase, and I love the title for the game.
IT'S HAPPENING!
Colin Moriarty is changing his boxers right now.
Finally...after 100 years, Castlevania is back with a new game and it looks solid!
I'll give kudos to Konami for greenlight this project. Keep this redemption arc and they'll get my full trust again.
THERE IS JUSTICE IN THIS COLD CRUEL WORLD

I can't believe Konami is cool again 😭
I'm so glad Konami finally stopped snorting cocaine, got off that pachinko craze and is finally giving us a new entry in the Castlevania series! I would have personally preferred something centered around Julius in his prime, but we're starved out here, so I'll take what I can get!
They also teased that a new metal gear is coming, and I just hope that they learned their lesson with Metal Gear Survive. Not sure if they can make a new MGS without Kojima, but it would be nice if they actually tried... And I mean ACTUALLY tried, not like what they did with Survive.
This trailer made me think that Konami is targeting fans of "indie metroidvania" type games that became popular well after Castlevania went dormant, rather than fans of Castlevania itself. The aesthetic doesn't scream Castlevania to me. And aesthetic is one of the most important things about Castlevania.
That being said, I am looking forward to playing this. I don't have PS5 (i'm normally on Nintendolife) but Konami would have to be extremely foolish to not release this for Nintendo.
I really hope it's a pure Metroidvania and has zero roguelike elements otherwise I'm out.
It’s great that Castlevania is finally back, but for Konami to become really great, we need that number 1 franchise of all time… Rumble Roses.
I can't believe Konami are back to like this. We get a new Castlevania, Metal Gear collection, a new Silent Hill and even a new jrpg.
Love that art style. Def looks good.
I want them to go back to 3D style like Lords of Shadow.
@Shizzlebob19 New Castlevania and Megaman announced in the last 60 days
This was the announcement of the show for me. Can’t wait to see more!
looks great !
@
@charbtronic Right? He's gonna need a ride to Walmart.
@Zuljaras Your collection just got bigger.
I was absolutely beaming with delight when I saw this. Happy 40th Castlevania and to many more years to come.
Yusssssssssssss
Please be a metroidvania and NOT a roguelite!!!
Yesssssssss! Konami is cooking right now. What a bunch of solid announcements with this being the big surprise. Love to see it!
Best reveal of show.
It's not doing it for me, but i'm happy to see the series back.
Cannot wait for this! Can't come sooner .
Afaik evil empire made the rogue prince of Persia, right?
If so, I hope this more motion twin than them because that game was...boring as hell after a handful of runs.
I don't like what I'm seeing. It seems extremely generic to me. Ayami Kojima (art) and Michiru Yamane (music) are a big part of the Castlevania franchise. I'm a big Castlevania fan, but for now, I'm keeping my expectations low.
Finally Castlevania has returned and Konami seemingly fully awoken from its slumber. A bit of a shame it's a Metroidvania, I really miss the level based approach but I'll still be playing
Much more excited than GoW metroidvania.
@GirlVersusGame It will!!!
@Bundersvessel Castlevania is one of the best things in the universe
Wonderful, wonderful news!!
That's a great pedigree too if the Dead Cells people are helping make it.
After the disappointment, seeing how mediocre the 2D God of War game looked, this was just what I needed. Welcome back Castlevania!
@Bahamut_GR A lot of Castlevania games including the very first one doesn't have Michiru Yamane and Ayami Kojima.
Some of my personal favorites like Lords of Shadow, Rondo of Blood, and Super Castlevania IV doesn't have both artist either.
@PuppetMaster Yes, I know. It's a me thing I guess. I think I have associated the series in my mind with metroidvanias (post-sotn games).
Metroidvania fans getting a new Bloodstained game and now a new Castlevania
WE EATING GOOD
@JohntheRaptor There's not nearly enough 3D metroidvanias and it hurts my poor soul
Looks great but...red headed protagonist? Its blonde hair or have I been seeing colours wrong my whole life?
Castlevania is a legendary franchises I'm happy there's a new game.word up son
@Exerion76
Exactly my thought process.
the art direction looks great with its bold use of colour and contrast. the movement, however, looks a bit slow and floaty to me... not the quick and precise movement we have become accustomed to with the iga games. not necessarily a dealbreaker though.
I am absolutely loving this art style! And it being worked on by the team that did Dead Cells has me very optimistic for its quality! Definitely keeping an eye on this one!
Why don't they just release these on iPhone? Hard pass! I have all the OG Castlevania games on PS3! I cannot go back. I would rather buy a Nintendo.
@Bahamut_GR I think it's not just you. I'm sure a lot of people who started Castlevania from SotN also associated the series with both artist. And i get it if you feel turn off without their signature.
I say give this game a fair chance when it's out. I mean, it's a brand new Castlevania game after 12 years of absent and by two devs who made two very positive games (Dead Cell and Rogue Prince of Persia). I think the game is handle by very talented people who really understand the series quality. So they wouldn't want to mess around and give a bad name to legendary franchise.
And if you don't like it after you played it, there's Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engangement to fill your Castlevania hunger.
I wish they would do a symphony of the night remake in this graphics engine and art style. Would be pretty good no?
I jolted in my chair the moment I saw the Castlevania 40th Anniversary logo, and my jaw dropped at the trailer. It's now among my top 5 most wanted games this year.
