Naturally the PS5 will not be getting Nintendo’s new Fire Emblem game, so you may be looking for an alternative.

Happinet’s Brigandine: Abyss, due out in 2026, may just tick that box.

This is based on a long-running SRPG series, which started out on the PS1 all the way back in 1998. A sequel was released for the PS4 in 2020, and this is the latest version.

The blurb reads:

“Brigandine: Abyss is a brand-new entry in the storied franchise, featuring a completely unique world that even unfamiliar players can dive right into. Hundreds of years ago, the Abyssloa Empire was stopped by the power of the arcane Brigandine. Now, a new Abyssloa Empire rises from the ashes, ready to conquer the world. Confront the dark as you manage resources, rally your monsters, and stand against the empire in one of six different story campaigns.”

In addition to the aforementioned story campaigns, you’ll also find a Mission Mode where you’ll need to fulfil the unique win conditions of 24 different factions.

The dev is describing this game as “endlessly replayable”, then, and it certainly does look like it’s going to seriously scratch that SRPG itch.

Obviously you can’t really beat Fire Emblem in this category, but the studio does have some alumni from the Nintendo franchise working on it, so it may end up the next best thing on PS5.
