Saros Succumbs to the Pay Extra to Play Early Trend 1

You’ll be able to play Saros two days early if you stump up the extra dosh for its Digital Deluxe Edition.

In what is increasingly becoming a popular publisher tactic, Sony will let you play Housemarque’s new roguelite a full 48 hours before its “official” release date on 30th April if you buy its more expensive option.

The game costs $69.99/£69.99 normally, so to get the advanced access you’ll need to stump up $79.99/£79.99.

To be fair, the more expensive option also includes a trio of armours inspired by Returnal, God of War, and Ghost of Yotei.

This isn’t the first time Sony’s pulled this tactic, of course: Death Stranding 2 also offered 48-hour early access if you plumped up for its more expensive edition. And the MLB The Show series has been doing something similar for years.

But personally, we’re not a fan of it. Let’s be real here: the actual Saros release date is 28th April, and unless you’re willing to pay extra, the game has been delayed by two days.

How do you feel about it all? Is this a storm in a teacup, or a trend that threatens to get out of hand? Will you be paying extra to play early? Let us know in the comments section below.
