@Oram77 Oh yeah. GTA 6 is gonna open the floodgates on PS5 sales. I’m sure Sony will sell more PS5s that month than possibly any other month past. A LOT of gamers are gonna jump down off the fence for that game.
The “consoles are dead” narrative is stupid. Pundits were saying that when PS4 released, and that thing killed. Consoles will be around for a long time in one form or another, especially from Sony and Nintendo.
Pretty telling when they don’t release console versions for review. I totally respect and appreciate Push Square’s insistence on reviewing the actual PS5 version and not extrapolating from a PC version.
God, some people are dumb. THE MAIN REASON THEY’RE NOT PUTTING IT ON PC (besides recent lacklustre sales) IS SO THAT YOU BUY A PS5. And how about the plethora of PC games that never come to PS5? I’m sure that’s fine.
@McBurn Said the same thing in my comment! I “hear” all kinds of things. Doesn’t mean I’ll take action on them or even agree with them. She just said that to shut the person up. As if she’d say, “no way that’s happening!”
So easy to say “hear you”; it means nothing and is merely meant to mollify the Xbox fanboys. I COULD see some smaller exclusives for Xbox, more niche stuff. But the tentpoles like Halo, Forza, Gears, and, of course, everything from Activision and Bethesda will absolutely be multiplatform. They literally can’t afford to go back to keeping that stuff walled away.
Sony can and will wait. As mentioned, this year is gonna be HUGE for PS5, so why take the spotlight away from it? Microsoft are in a very different position; they’re desperate to drum up some excitement about Xbox, so they’re teasing a shiny new console. I personally don’t think it’ll reverse their fortunes, though.
As themightyant says, I'm assuming Sony has done their best to find jobs for the studios they're shutting down within their own group. So these hires would be for jobs that couldn't be done by people they laid off. But who knows?
Tried this last night for a few hours. The funnest part was playing co-op with my friend so we could bitch about how tough it was, how there’s no point getting cool loot because you lose it all if you’re killed, and Bungie’s insistence on using mouse type controls in their (horrible) menus. Seriously, the UI for this game is terrible. Oh, and the cooldowns are absurd, there’s not enough ammo around, and healing items are too hard to find. Both of us felt sad, as this will be the first Bungie game we WON’T be buying in over 20 years. They should have made Destiny 3, or something else (preferably non-live service). I don’t think this will be another Concord, but it’s going to have a pretty small audience, methinks.
Part of me feels sad they’re pulling back on this. While keeping games off Xbox made sense (when they were still actual competition), I liked the idea of PC gamers getting some Sony love. The PC space feels so different from the console space that it doesn’t feel like competition in some ways. But if the juice ain’t worth the squeeze, it’s hard to argue that they should continue porting to PC as much.
Will play as much of it this weekend as I want (wife is away), but highly doubt I’ll pick it up. Too many strikes against it for it to be my kind of game, from everything I’ve read and seen. Still, I’m curious to give it a spin.
No way they’ll stop putting games on PS5. They’re making way too much money doing that. They MAY have longer windows for Xbox exclusivity on first party releases, but as has been mentioned, GamePass is cannibalizing their sales on their own platform. I think GamePass will be neutered at least somewhat to incentivize people to buy more games on Xbox, and they may keep some smaller games exclusive (lower budgets make this feasible), but I don’t think we’ll see any really big swings under the new leadership. She’ll be looking to leverage AI to lower costs ans streamline processes.
Well, of course not. The reason they went multiplatform was because keeping all of that sweet studio output inside Xbox’s walled garden (and Game Pass) wasn’t economically sustainable. And they’ve made a ton of dough releasing games on PS5. Why would they just stop that?
Agree, this feels like a massive stumble from Sony. Starting with getting Bluepoint to make a live service game. So Sony made a dumb decision, and now another dev has to pay the ultimate price. What the hell?!
Visually, it looks good, and I’m sure the gunplay will be tight. But losing all of your stuff because some sweat sniped you means I likely won’t be buying this. Will give it a go during the open beta, of course!
@cainhurst94 Exactly. They would have happily horded all of the games from those studios if they could. They’ve had to change their tune because Game Pass is economically unsustainable.
If it ain’t a live service game that will be improved by a larger player base, I say Xbox fans can probably forget about Sony sharing first party games with them.
@Scottyy Was gonna say the same thing. Charging full price for this will definitely limit its audience. Arcadey racers are just not popular enough now to get away with it, generally speaking.
Returnal was fun but just too damned hard for this old geezer. This looks more manageable, but…I’m done with roguelights/likes. There are just way too many of them.
I can understand why a lot of people were hyped by this, but there were only a couple of games that interested me. It feels like what’s popular now just doesn’t jibe with my preferences, but that’s what backlogs are for!
Looks (graphically) awful. They might as well at least make this cross-gen; no reason why this couldn't run on PS4 as well. They'd open their audience up a lot by doing that. I'll wait for reviews, but I'm not really into the "retro" look, as it looks cheap, not charming.
More time and resources being squandered chasing the GAAS dragon. I’d be very surprised if this winds up a hit; it looks generic and boring. They should have focused on making Horizon 3 instead.
Well I would hope so; PS3 (especially at launch) was a massive fumble for Sony. I and everyone I know jumped over to Microsoft that gen, and I have no regrets. But don’t get me wrong: I was happy to switch back to Sony when the PS4 reveal knocked it out of the park!

Re: Crimson Desert Looks 'Rough' on Base PS5, Here's 25 Minutes of Direct Capture Footage
So THAT’S why they weren’t showing off console versions! Unsurprising but disappointing. Imagine how this “runs” on Series S…woof…

Coming to PS Plus in 3…2…1…
Re: Round Up: Crimson Desert Reviews Are a Major Disappointment
Anybody with a quarter of a brain knew that this game was never gonna live up to the hype.

Re: 'We've Always Wanted to Do It': Todd Howard Says He Knew Starfield PS5 Would Be a 'Matter of Time'
Will wait for a hefty sale before jumping in. I’ve loved other Bethesda games, but this one left fans cold, so I’ll temper expectations.

Didn’t help that the CEO was spouting nonsense conspiracy theories.
Re: Feature: Inside Pearl Abyss, the Ambitious Studio Behind PS5's Massive Crimson Desert
Great feature! I’d love to see more like this, though I know that can be tricky with time and budgets.
Re: Xbox Targets 2027 for Project Helix Dev Kits, Calling Rumoured PS6 Release Into Question
@Sakai OK, didn't know that! If true, then you're right...could still totally happen.

Re: Xbox Targets 2027 for Project Helix Dev Kits, Calling Rumoured PS6 Release Into Question
Good. No rush. If they’re just handing out alpha dev kits next year, no way they’ll launch in 2027
Re: 'Whatever We Say, People Won't Believe Us': Crimson Desert Dev Promises Full PS5 Tech Breakdown for Launch
@ButterySmooth30FPS Yes, but they were looking at the PC version.

Re: Opinion: God of War: Sons of Sparta Is the Smaller PS5 Game Fans Want, and I Hope We See More
Smaller games, sure. But I don’t want a bunch of 2D pixel art metroidvania roguelites. There are MORE than enough already.

Re: Crimson Desert Confirms PSSR 2 on PS5 Pro, But Glowing Previews All Based on PC Version
Never good if they’re not showing off the console versions. May very well be fine, but not a good look.
Re: Highguard Permanently Shuts Down on 12th March
Sad but unsurprising news. Devs: STOP CHASING THE LIVE SERVICE DRAGON! ODDS ARE IT’S NOT GONNA BE WORTH IT AND YOU’LL JUST TANK YOUR STUDIO!
Re: Sony Returns to PlayStation Exclusivity and Stops Single Player PC Ports, New Report Says
I still think it’s a bit sad that we’re not sharing the love with PC, but if the ports ain’t selling, it’s not worth it.

Re: Saros Shaves Off Returnal's Rough Edges for a More Universally Appealing PS5 Roguelite
Returnal was fun but just too damned hard for this old geezer. This looks more manageable, but…I’m done with roguelights/likes. There are just way too many of them.
Re: Sony's Santa Monica Studio Has Another Unannounced PS5 Project in Production
Hopefully not a new God of War. Not because I don’t like it, but because they truly have their bases covered with that IP already.

Re: Most of Highguard's Dev Team Laid Off Just Two Weeks After Live Service Shooter's Launch
Brutal. I really hope this GAAS trend dies down (or off) soon. It’s just too risky.

Re: Horizon Hunters Gathering Is Guerrilla's Next Big PS5 Game, Horizon 3 Still Years Away
More time and resources being squandered chasing the GAAS dragon. I’d be very surprised if this winds up a hit; it looks generic and boring. They should have focused on making Horizon 3 instead.
Re: Poll: What's Your Reaction to Horizon Hunters Gathering?
Generic-looking GAAS dreck. A waste of resources that should be put to making Horizon 3 instead.
Re: Sony Finally Confirms Horizon Co-Op Game, Horizon Hunters Gathering for PS5, PC
Looks pretty generic and not my cup of tea, but will wait for reviews…or wait until it’s on PS Plus.
