Damned shame about Halo. Was hoping we might at least get ports of remakes for 2 and 3. Now, I'd say that's unlikely (especially given Microsoft's constant waffling on exclusives). Oh well. At least we got one of them, and my second favourite Halo game to boot. I agree that if PvP was included, it might have sold a bit better. The Master Chief collection would have sold even better than that. But so it goes.
@Northern_munkey Been playing this all weekend and really enjoying it. Haven’t played Halo in twelve years, and it’s kind of funny in that the muscle memory is still there for the old control scheme, even though it’s been updated for Campaign Evolved. The graphics are stunning, and the shooting feels great. Will play the new missions once I’ve finished strolling down memory lane.
Hope it sells enough to get more remakes on PlayStation (Halo Studios don't seem capable of making a good new Halo game). But at least we got this one! Looking forward to playing it this weekend.
Preordered with a gift card, and also to "vote with my wallet" (I want more Halo on PlayStation). Can't wait to play...but will have to muddle through the "account linking" B.S. first.
They've all been OK recently, but a bit lackluster and they don't really do anything new or interesting. Still a "comfort food" game for me, but wouldn't mean seeing the franchise get a shot of freshness...but not an extraction shooter, and the "time limit" game also sounds lame.
@trev666 Judging by the fact that it didn't sell all that well AND that the next game in the series is coming to Xbox exclusively (for now), I doubt it. But yeah: Gears 2 is my favourite in the series.
There was a rumour that the studio wasn't working on ANY new Halo game. I guessing that they're gonna see how this sells before allowing them to move forward, including if they'll move forward on PlayStation (they said previously that the serious would be on PlayStation "going forward", but these days, who knows).
Can't wait to play this next week! One of the last bastions of my Xbox days that hasn't crossed over (and easily the most important one) has arrived! Wish it had Firefight as well, but it'll be great to play this again on PlayStation. Fingers crossed for remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 to come over as well. Not really fussed about new Halo games, actually; 343/Halo Studios seem like they can't really make a great new Halo game.
Microsoft throwing silly money at a problem without thinking about whether it will actually help or not (spoiler: it didn't). No wonder they're slashing left and right now.
If they’ll sell well on PlayStation they’ll come to PlayStation. Period. Xbox needs to make money now more than ever (the grim reaper of Microsoft is standing right next to them), so they’re not gonna stop porting games that will make them big money on other platforms.
Seasoned veteran; have played this many times on my old Xbox 360 (RIP); haven't played it in at least twelve years since I made the jump back to PlayStation. Can't wait to hit this on my PS5 on July 28!
I’m gonna get roasted for this, but I call *****. People are going to see all of the games they have that are locked to Sony hardware, and realize what they’re leaving behind. Tempers will cool (“this too shall pass”), and most of those people will plump for PS6. I know I’m gonna get some angry responses, but if I were a betting man…personally, I’ll be waiting for a long time, and either leave the hobby altogether (not bloody likely, if my motor skills hold up), or wait a looooong time before buying a PS6. I’m just as pissed about what’s going on as many folk. But I’ll stick with my PS5 for now, and see what happens.
@dskatter Riiiiiiiiight. And I think that this is part of the problem, but also layoffs aren't really part of the solution: the game is taking WAY too damned long. We've seen nothing since 2018, and the game is STILL "years off". That's just a huge drain on finances. Again, layoffs aren't really the solution, though.
They'll just keep trucking. The ship has sailed; if they're already retraining staff, they're not going to switch back. The best thing that they can do is make buying digital more appealing: better pricing, more security of ownership, the ability to gift games, not making them disappear if your membership has lapsed, etc. I doubt they will, but that's really the best that they can do now. And they HAVE to offer an optional disc drive for PS6, or they'll definitely lose even more customers.
Sony ain't gonna change their ways until their attitude hits them in their wallet...and even then, with the current leadership, I'm not sure. We went from one bad boss to another, from Ryan to Hulst. All they care about is making money, not how their customers feel about anything.
If it sells well, they’ll keep putting it on PlayStation, end of. And I think it was doing pretty well on preorders, so fingers crossed. Would love to see the other remakes at least (including ODST and Reach, as yet unrumoured.
I think that Sony will need to take a hit in their pocketbook before they'll wise up. Would be nice if they had some actual competition to make this happen, but it'll probably be due to their anti-consumer practices and increased prices causing sales to drop. But it'll likely need to be a BIG drop before they actually do anything. They've gotten away with being arrogant for so long now, that it's unlikely they'll change anytime soon.
@playstation1995 Yeah, dark days ahead for our hobby, I'm afraid. And judging by your handle, you, like me, have been gaming for over thirty years now. Sucks to be dealt this hand. I'm taking out life insurance on my PS5, yo!
Their arrogance has partly manifested as this lack of communication (on top of bad decisions). They really have squandered all that goodwill they built up during the PS4 era. So now they drop some bad news and then just turtle up, and will probably never address or explain any of this again.
@playstation1995 Doing OK, thanks for asking! Blazing hot here, too. Not happy with Sony either. This may have to be my last console, which makes me really sad. Hope you're doing well!
It's a numbers game, and, assuming that these numbers are accurate, it's simply not worth Sony to continue making physical media. There are other (slimy, money-grubbing) benefits to the company as well, of course, but this is an easily defensible move from a business point.
Well, we knew this was coming. A sad day nonetheless. I'd imagine that this confirms that PS6 will only have an add on optical drive, and be sold as a strictly digital device. I buy almost all of my games (with the exception of a small handful each generation) digitally, so this doesn't affect me as much as others.
No surprise there. Shame since we've been spoiled by 60fps modes, and 30fps looks pretty bad on my OLED, but GTA 6 is going for maximum bells and whistles, so no way for 60fps. Makes me laugh seeing PS5 Pro users saying it'll run at 60. The CPU will be the bottleneck, and Pro's is only 10% better than standard PS5, so no way.
I agree with Digital Foundry's prediction that cross gen will last longer than ever next gen. And, as I recall, they called that before the component shortage. So I'd say it's truer now. I'm perfectly fine to wait until 2030.
I think that they're using a very specific definition of "demand", as suggested in the article; people WANT PS5s, but we can see from sale data that they're not actually buying them. It's not really "demand" in the typical "supply and demand" sense.
I can wait. If I wait at least two years after launch, I’m sure things will stabilize. PS5 has lots of love to give, cross gen will last even longer, and the difference between generations will be less noticeable. We got a better controller and the SSD as innovations with PS5, and those made more of a difference to me than slight graphical improvements.
Looks interesting! But: "Little picture-in-picture videos will appear in the corner of the screen while you race, commentating on what’s happening and bringing you closer to your rivals"...uh oh. I HATE when I'm trying to race and someone is blabbing at me (unless, of course, it's my co-driver in a rally game).
Start at the bottom. Essential had a few good games last year, but this year’s offerings have been mostly crap again. And I’ll never subscribe to a higher tier; I have enough of a backlog, and I like to buy my games on sale and play them when I want, without having to worry about them leaving the service.
Take your time. It'll still feel like a bump from PS5 (the days of huge generational leaps is long over), and the delay won't be so long that the tech will feel outdated compared to the original release date. Personally, I'm in no rush. More time with the PS5 as their console, the more games we'll get in a generation that, from a first party perspective, has been pretty dry in terms of releases.
@tameshiyaku they have more than enough studios that can make those kind of games already. While Bungie have not paid off as an acquisition, they do make the best feeling shooters on the market, and Sony doesn’t have anyone with that level of shooter expertise.
Legendary difficulty is brutal in this game! But it’s always more manageable in coop. Wonder if you can still get the troph for that one in coop? Still…almost definitely won’t be platting this one!
