Well I would hope so; PS3 (especially at launch) was a massive fumble for Sony. I and everyone I know jumped over to Microsoft that gen, and I have no regrets. But don’t get me wrong: I was happy to switch back to Sony when the PS4 reveal knocked it out of the park!
The tank has breathed new life into the game for my friends and I! Now we stomp around with a mech and a tank. Heavy armour column coming atcha! Although I accidentally cut my friend in half more than once with the machine gun when he was entering or exiting the thing! Arrowhead have done great work keeping the game feeling fresh.
That would be a very smart move. PS5 has barely got going, in terms of a proper generation where the hardware is really being pushed. Not enough first party games have come out for PS5 yet. And with all of the stupidity of tariffs and the AI boondoggle causing prices to skyrocket, best wait until things settle down a bit so there's a chance the PS6 will be somewhat more affordable. Lastly, the console will be even more of a technological leap than if it releases next year or in 2028 (though I'm still not expecting a massive jump).
Will absolutely pick this one up. Possibly day one depending on the price. With no multiplayer and just the campaign, I feel like this one should be no more than $30 U.S., but I feel like Microsoft will probably charge more since this is Halo. We’ll see. If need be, I’ll just wait for a sale.
@IronCrow86 I think it would be great if Sony shared their toys with Microsoft. More players = better for any IP/game. But I don’t think it’ll ever happen, as Sony don’t need to share.
Seems like everyone but BioWare could tell. Knowing what goes into a successful live service game, which they’ve never done before and is a huge undertaking, may have provided a clue. I really enjoy Anthem, but it definitely had major problems, from uninspiring loot to inadequate content to the weird design schism of “we’re out in the world playing together, but then I go back to the hub and I’m alone”.
Excited about Primal, too! Would be great if that got a resolution boost, too (it’s still only 1080p), but this is still great news! Gotta give Ubisoft props for these free updates.
It was flawed AND needed more support (and time in the oven). Fun game with problems including not enough content. Should never have been a live service game, and definitely should have had a single player, offline mode.
Good. It SHOULD be cheaper, and so should all games! If they lowered the price of games a bit, they’d sell more. Possibly a lot more, in some cases. Gaming is getting to be too expensive now, which isn’t good for us or the industry.
Such a shame that this game was rushed out the door and never should have been live service to begin with. They should have packaged it like Mass Effect, with offline single player and coop modes, then done a few DLCs. The bones of the game (traversal and shooting) were solid, but the campaign was a mess and there wasn’t enough to do. Still, could have been retooled into an offline game so people could keep playing. RIP Anthem.
@OldGamer999 Very unlikely GTA6 will be 60 fps on Pro, according to Digital Foundry. The power delta is not that big, and the CPU is only around 10% more powerful than the base model, if I’m remembering correctly.
Absolutely will come to PS5. Just read an article stating that Forza Horizon 5 has sold five million copies on PlayStation, so no way this won’t come to PS5 at some point.
Nice! Will definitely check it out; looks and sounds fun! Man, Xbox are giving us all their toys, and Sony is giving them very little (other than Helldivers 2, which was a nice move). I know Sony doesn’t have to, so they won’t, but still.
@Fiendish-Beaver Rollerball (the original) is great! Got to see Norman Jewison’s personal 35 mm print at a screening many years ago and even got a chance to ask the editor a question at a Q&A afterwards!
A shame, because Sony needs competition in the marketplace (I don’t really consider Nintendo competitors, since they’re doing their own thing with different priorities and hardware).
Halo (still can’t believe we’re getting it!), GTA 6, and Wolverine are my tops. Waiting to hear more about some of the others on this list, which look promising.
NFS is a decent addition, from what I’ve heard. The rest don’t sound interesting to me, but Essential REALLY stepped up this year with their offerings (currently playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard which is fun, and looking forward to playing RoboCop at some point soon).
Can only be a good thing. More time for this generation to finally get some momentum (especially from Sony first party studios), and if speculation of a VERY long cross gen period next time are true, it won’t have much of an impact. Also, the longer it’s delayed, the better, cheaper, and more powerful it could be. I say roll it out in 2030!
Exclusives are exciting to me because you know the dev can push the hardware hard (and optimally), as Layden says. And Sony have some great devs capable of making great games in general…as long as they’re not wasting time on some live service boondoggle.
Coffee with whiskey at my side, will binge on Dragon Age: The Veilguard and be hitting the edibles later. Chicken wings thawing for dinner tonight. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Push Square-ers!
Still playing Remnant 2 Love the combat, exploring, and procedurally generated levels which make replays way more varied, but some of the bosses feel cheap and just kill the fun. Gonna start Dragon Age: The Veilguard in the next couple of days for playing during the break.
Love the mainline Borderlands games, and Tales is also great! Totally different, obviously, but a good story, well written and well acted characters, and definitely worth playing!
Remnant 2 is currently alternating between being really fun exploration and combat, and kicking my ass hard! Doing a second run through of the campaign, and will play all the DLC campaigns, but the difficulty spikes really deflate my fun and enthusiasm for this one. Will kill a couple of weeks with this and more Borderlands 4 before playing Dragon Age: Veilguard over the hols.
@Americansamurai1 I don’t think it’s quite that high. I feel like we would have seen articles about it if that was the case. I think PS2 sold that many units and it’s possibly the best selling console of all time (Switch may beat it, if it hasn’t already).
@LifeGirl Absolutely. And with the upcoming RAM price hikes and so on, it would be wise to wait until costs become a bit more reasonable and a greater technological leap will be possible. Plenty of untapped potential still in the PS5.
Looks interesting, especially since it’s a single player game. But I don’t think it’s a roguelite at all. I certainly hope it isn’t anyway. There’s enough damn roguelites out there.
Played first on PS5, around two years after its disastrous release. Loved it. The first “open world” game since GTA 5 that I just wandered around, soaking in the atmosphere. A stunning sci fi city, and a great game!
@Nf157 I was thinking the same thing. Not really a lot of interesting info to dig into. Felt the same way about Spotify this year (though they supposedly laid off a whole bunch of people who used to handle the year end wrap and got AI to do most of it).
@andykara2003 If you listen to and believe Digital Foundry as I do, then almost certainly not. My guess? Maybe a 40 fps mode, but the power delta between base and Pro is not enough to double the framerate (especially considering that the CPU is barely more powerful).
@Northern_munkey Same. My bundled controller sucks on battery life, and it has crazy stick drift. Newer controllers last a lot longer and haven’t drifted (yet).

Re: Poll: What's Your Reaction to Horizon Hunters Gathering?
Generic-looking GAAS dreck. A waste of resources that should be put to making Horizon 3 instead.
Re: Sony Finally Confirms Horizon Co-Op Game, Horizon Hunters Gathering for PS5, PC
Looks pretty generic and not my cup of tea, but will wait for reviews…or wait until it’s on PS Plus.

Re: New PlayStation Patent Could Let You Put Controller Buttons Where You Want
Nah, I’m good. My muscle memory is already well dialled in to the DualSense, and I way prefer physical buttons to a touchscreen for gaming controls.
