It's still taking some getting used to, but Xbox is now a huge publisher on PlayStation, and it's bringing one of its most beloved series to Sony's platform for the first time ever this year.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the original first-person shooter, albeit stripped of its competitive multiplayer.
Announced last year, the Unreal Engine 5-powered game is a notable one for PS5 players, who may be getting their very first taste of the sci-fi universe and playing as the iconic Master Chief.

It seems the importance of the game is not lost on the developers. Creative director Max Szlagor and executive producer Damon Conn comment on the game making the leap to PS5 in a recent feature by GamesRadar.
"We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years and have them play with an entirely new generation," Conn says, referring to Campaign Evolved's four-player online co-op and crossplay support.
"There are people who have never been exposed to Halo," he continues. "Maybe they've always been on Sony products, switched consoles at a certain point, or just missed it at the time. We want to bring players back together."
Szlagor says "Halo is best played when we have a large, healthy community," and views the game "as a way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community."
"We want to honour the Halo legacy on PlayStation, and we're paving the way to expand our Halo universe – that's how we see it," Conn says. "And it's not a small thing. We don't and we won't take it lightly. We definitely feel the weight of it."
Campaign Evolved is a full remake of the original, but it modernises certain aspects and will even include some wholly original content, with a series of brand new missions that take place before the main story.
There's no date in place yet, but it's planned to release in 2026. Are you excited for Halo on PS5? Tell us in the comments section below.

I will be careful with this remake. I loved the original game, and want to replay it again.
However I read some critical take on the remake that by adding new mechanics (sprint) breaks down the pacing around which the levels and environment were designed.
I don't think this is near the level of Demon Souls remake, so I'll be patiently waiting for your review
Hope to hear a release window, if not an exact date, in the coming weeks. Part of me still can't believe we're here, despite already owning and playing Gears of War on PS5, and a few other former Xbox exclusives.
My first time playing Halo 1 in full was actually the remaster on 360, but I remember playing the demo over and over again way back on Mac in the early 2000s.
I'm personally not bothered by sprint or whatever else they're adding. We're talking about a single or coop campaign, so if you don't like sprint, don't sprint.
Whether I pick this up at launch will depend on technical performance, but I'm definitely looking forward to playing it on PS5.
I wonder how the fanboys/girls would react if say God of War or Uncharted were to one day come to Xbox... Seriously, it's a genuine question....The people cheering on Xbox games coming to PlayStation, are the same people enacting the "this game is purely PlayStation, Xbox can sod off" mantra..
Obviously I'm paraphrasing, but you get the gist 🙂
I’d much rather have the Master Chief Collection ported over.
No multiplayer no buy
You don't honor the original's legacy by dropping the capacity of the assault rifle from 60 to 32.
@Bsb56 Such an over sight....
What are they gonna charge for this without multiplayer?
@IronCrow86 I think it would be great if Sony shared their toys with Microsoft. More players = better for any IP/game. But I don’t think it’ll ever happen, as Sony don’t need to share.
Will absolutely pick this one up. Possibly day one depending on the price. With no multiplayer and just the campaign, I feel like this one should be no more than $30 U.S., but I feel like Microsoft will probably charge more since this is Halo. We’ll see. If need be, I’ll just wait for a sale.
I predict no game on disc, no multiplayer and $50.
I'm all for this. I think Halo Infinite should have come over first though. The game is honestly great, and still has a huge number of players. Anytime I pop on I always find a match in less than a minute. That would have been a better choice to start with imo.
Bring it over since the the game doesn't include multiplayer for some reason.
Think Xbox is stepping away for good, curious how it goes with regards to the next 5 or 10 years.
@WhoderMan I don't know about the game on disc. I think it DID verify no multiplayer though. So bummer. And $50 might be the right price.
@Oram77 shhhh
@IronCrow86 I think most xbots are coming to terms with it. This is the new norm. Xbox Magnus for UBER power, PS for traditional console. Xbox couldn't care less about Exclusives anymore.
@Oram77 I doubt it's an oversight. It's likely them waiting for the next new entry to have a full MP suite on PS5.
Never played a Halo game, but always was fascinated by that universe. Now is the time!!
Never played the franchise. But this will be nice with a discount when the time comes. Co-op it is.
@IronCrow86
I get your point - If I had bought Xbox this gen, I would probably be a bit salty that PS users were getting all of Xbox's games, with nothing in return eg could some sort of trade have been done?
But, things are not equal here. Xbox as a closed ecosystem console is effectively dead at this point (putting their games onto PS hastened this significantly imo). Whereas Sony are doing very well with their closed ecosystem model, and need exclusives to attract people to it, and to keep existing users happy.
All that said, not being into Racing games (because Forza looked excellent), I haven't been exactly tempted by very much at all from Xbox studios - mainly because of the level of technical achievement in their games on PS5/Pro.
I will remain very wary of this and all their games until I see a DF (or similar) analysis.
Wow did your hear the Sony TCL news today
Go read on What HiFi.
Basically TCL will own 51% of Sony TV, Audio and Home entertainment. Not PlayStation of course.
How things can change in a split second.
I’ll play it… as I think it’s quite serendipitous to play the big 3 (Halo, Gears & Forza 🎼) during the Xbox 25th anniversary year. I’m not particularly bothered about it though, doesn’t really look my bag… and pretty archaic without me having any nostalgia for it.
@Locksley this. 343 is incapable of making good Halo games; just give playstation the MCC of bungie’s games.
@Scottyy @freddquadros I’m sorry that you guys first experience with halo is gonna be a game made by 343/Halo studios
"honour the legacy".
Pure pretentious marketing tosh.
They've been told from high above in Microsoft to extract extra cash out of the franchise, else they will be closed/sold off and end up driving ubers for a living.
That's it. They want money. They don't give a monkeys about legacy.
They've been disrespecting the legacy on Xbox for well over a decade, so don't believe for one minute they have such lofty and honourable concerns for the PS5 conversion.
Not sure it'll be a good first impression for first time players. No multiplayer which is a key part of the Halo experience, Sprint added without changing the Levels to account for it, & the fact that the game seems to be internally based on Halo Reach which is not known for being super balanced on harder Difficulties.
@OldGamer999 Yeah that's insane. Just read it. Sony is kind of reducing themselves now. They're also looking at doing the same for their smartphones. Soon they will be JUST PS consoles.
@11001100110zero
I know I thought it was April fools day early.
@viktorcode I mean, you can just not sprint if you think it disrupts the flow of the game. I'm not super into this remake for a few reasons, but that's such a non-problem in my eyes.
