@nomither6 Well, remember certainly at the start, there WAS no real first party. Sony started snapping up devs soon after, of course (Psygnosis, etc.) But I’d have to say it was a combination. You had games like Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, and so on, along with great third party games like Tomb Raider and really good fighting game ports (a big deal in the ‘90s) like Street Fighter and Tekken. I think PS1 was successful because it was marketed as a cool gaming platform, AND it was where devs wanted to be due to the voluminous, inexpensive CD format. Sorry for the long response, but I hope that it made sense!

Back in the day, those were basically “forever games” like Fortnight, and they were killer apps to boot. Don’t forget Mario 64. So those were very good reasons to own the console.

It’s all about the dollars, not “empowering creators” or any of that guff. Microsoft haven’t suddenly grown a heart and decided to be generous. If Xbox was selling well, they absolutely would have kept most (if not all) of these games exclusive.

As long as it’s helping artists versus replacing them, that’s fine. I like the idea of AI as a “copilot”, helping out but not doing the work. Also, as long as it’s not outright stealing other artists’ work. Like any tool, AI can be helpful or harmful.

Looks cool, but $50? I’ll wait.

Nice to see Helldivers 2 so high in the charts! Great game. My friends and I still play it weekly for its brilliant mix of white knuckle tension and big laughs.

Don’t need more than Essential. How about a discount on renewals, like they used to do?

I mean, that would be really bad if true. But it’s still bad that Sony is chasing the live service dragon, and wasting studios’ precious time by cancelling projects that they’ve spent years on. This generation will see far fewer first party games because of that.

With the time it takes to make ANY game these days, there’s probably little chance that we’ll see anything from Bend or Bluepoint this generation. Unless they had other projects that they were working on that we don’t know about. This live service push, barring Helldivers 2, has been a huge waste of time…as most people suspected from the start.

“If you want new single player games, buy remasters of old games. We need the money!” No. You don’t. You need to rethink budgets and scale and how AAA games are being made. Gamers “investing” in remasters to get new games is a ridiculous idea.

@Airsqueeble I’m sure a new Halo (as well as the MC collection, hopefully) will land on PS5, but yeah…probably not day one. Although that WOULD be a good way to beef up multiplayer numbers.

Diablo 4. Long campaign! Really having fun with it. Interspersing some WRC 9 and COD BLOPS Cold War multiplayer in there for the twitching (it was free on PS Plus). COD fun so far, but what’s with installing the game, and then having to install multiple texture packs?! Then I go back into the game, and campaign hasn’t been installed…and it’s like 200 gigs?! Thank god I have a 2 TB SSD installed in my PS5!

Day one for the Master Chief Collection. One of the franchises I really miss on PlayStation after switching back post-360.

I always shut down. Any updates don’t take long anyway, and I’m just old school in terms of “if you’re not using it, turn it off”.

I think consoles represent a mindset. You can argue that it’s easy to set up a PC in your living room now, but nothing will ever beat the plug and play nature of a console. And as long as Sony keeps making consoles backward compatible, gamers can keep their collections while also being able to play the latest and greatest. I personally will keep buying consoles as my means of gaming.

Would rather have the option to have as many games on the Home Screen as I want, rather than just a handful. A stupid downgrade. A more robust music player (like we had on PS4) would be nice too.

Diablo 4 has its hooks in me!

The uptake of new consoles is slower than ever for various reasons, including “forever” games (GAAS), smaller technological advances, and backwards compatibility. They’ll need to keep supporting PS5 games well into next gen. I bet there will still be PS4 games released during PS6’s lifetime.

Talk is cheap. Let’s see some games! Resistance, Wipeout, Demolition Derby, G-Police, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper…so many great franchises collecting dust.

Also, if you “haven’t seen” this game, what rock do you live under? It looked amazing on my PS5 two years ago, and looks maybe slightly better now. So what?

Gonna start Diablo 4 and continue playing Helldivers 2 with friends. Really excited to crack Diablo; I spent a ridiculous number of hours of hours playing D3.

Neither will exit. Sony’s console business is healthy, and Microsoft have the money to burn to stay in the game. Plus they’d lose all of their current console audience if they abandoned the market, if only because current customers would rightly lose their minds if they didn’t have a machine to play their games on in the next generation.

@Deoxyr1bose Exactly. Just like the old “Microsoft Points” currency they had for Xbox. Always sold in totally inconvenient quantities in the hope that you would buy more to top up. Crooked.

They’ll absolutely make another console. They’ve said that they will, and boasted about “the largest generational leap”. Plus, they started as a console and would be leaving existing fans (and their libraries) behind. Lastly, they’re never going to beat Sony, but they’re not going to let them have the high performance console market to themselves.

@themightyant Totally agree. The only time I want a timer in my game is if it’s a racing game. And “survival extraction” shooter? No thanks.

It was OK, but too small for a Borderlands type game (especially since they charged full price). I’d rather they focus on knocking Borderlands 4 out of the park.

Great update! Really different fighting the new faction. An unfortunate side effect to the surge in popularity is that I got disconnected from three of my four matches last night.

Playing Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s Conquest Mode…it’s like a whole second campaign after you finish the story! That, and some sweet Helldivers 2 and Gran Turismo 7.

Looking forward to this one, though two player only couch co-op is a bit of a bummer.

Thank God it’s not more Last of Us! Something new is way more exciting. Looks good, too!
