Arrowhead has today issued a major game update for its popular co-op shooter, Helldivers 2, and it comes with an explosive new addition to the arsenal.
The Bastion tank headlines the update, a fondly remembered vehicle from the original Helldivers that makes its return in the sequel.
Players will need to put it to good use as the game's ever-evolving narrative sees a full-on warpath towards Cyberstan, the home planet of the Automatons, who have stolen schematics for a human super-weapon named the Star of Peace. Very Helldivers.
On top of that, the update makes yet more changes to weapon balancing, plenty of bug fixes, and some neat additions. For example, the game now has an option for Chinese voiceover, and emotes and victory poses are now (mostly) interchangeable.
A new premium Warbond also launches today, giving players more opportunities to bag some new weapons.
The LAS-16 Trident is another favourite returning from the original game, a beam-firing, shotgun-like weapon that packs a punch.
The CQC-20 Breaching Hammer is a stratagem that arms you with a massive sledgehammer to do some hefty blunt force damage. Other new stratagems include the GL-28 Belt-Fed Grenade Launcher, which can fire multiple grenades in a row, and the EAT-411 Leveller, a powerful missile launcher.
The Warbond also contains its fair share of cosmetics to unlock as well.
It's all pretty heavy stuff in these updates, with lots of big new toys to play with. Will you be checking it all out in Helldivers 2? Tell us in the comments section below.

Im loving this patch, the push for Cyberstan is really something. Already unlocked 2/3 of the new warbond and the tank (a bit underwhelming to be honest), but having almost 100k players now is amazing, and for a first time in ages, almost everybody is on the bot front for the MO.
God, I love this game so much.
@dardel first time I saw a tank being dropped in, I panicked and blew it up. Should've read the patch notes 🤣
@RBMango it's my favourite game of the past 10 years.
Guarantee that Tank won't do ***** and have barely any armour like the Mechs looks good in a video but underwhelming when used.
@Nakatomi_Uk I havent used it much, and saw it only once so far because I was farming extermination missions for fast medals. I believe it will not be as good, since the patch buffed enemy dmg against durable. So now the mechs are even worse on the bot front and maybe the tank might be annihilated fast.
Btw currently 156569 players and 117189 on Lesath, have never seen this split before.
Bots on Super Helldive are much tougher than they were prepatch (I don’t think enemies take more damage but there are more of them and they aim better).
I lost half the six rounds I played but a big part of that was everybody (including me) trying to figure out the new toys so it’s hard to say how much tougher things are.
Purchased this ages ago and never gave it enough time. Great that everyone is loving the game. Just so many great games out there, I don’t have enough time to devote.
@Dudeitsme Makes sense to me. Lots of good stuff out there.
That hammer is really fun. Everyone including me is probably overusing it at the moment but being able to take out a tank, hulk or turret with a single strike of the hammer (whose explosive tip can be replaced seven times IIRC) is really great. Of course running up to those big mechs often ends badly because they have big guns, big feet and buzzsaws and suchlike😋.
However this morning I ran around in stealth armor with a bubble shield backpack and used my hammer to good effect. If something was looking at me I retreated and contented myself with killing it from afar with thermite, 500 lb bombs, my laser shotgun and orbital barrages. When an enemy was focusing on a teammate or had its back to me, it was hammertime.
The tank has breathed new life into the game for my friends and I! Now we stomp around with a mech and a tank. Heavy armour column coming atcha! Although I accidentally cut my friend in half more than once with the machine gun when he was entering or exiting the thing! Arrowhead have done great work keeping the game feeling fresh.
@Nakatomi_Uk Personally speaking, my friends and I were kicking ass with the tank and a mech on the field. Very fun!
The new warbond’s leveler (a powerful one shot rocket) is a beast. I don’t think it’s quite as powerful as a nuclear bomb but it’s more powerful than a 500 pound bomb.
One can only call one down every two minutes but one hit kills even a factory strider (and thus probably everything but a hive lord) and everything in its vicinity.
Drop off is pretty severe though so you either need to aim high or be a lot higher than your target. If you are close enough to your target that drop off isn’t a factor you are probably too close and will die in the resultant explosion.
