Re: All Eyes on Rumoured State of Play Later This Week

@PsBoxSwitchOwner Highly doubt it; I feel like Halo will be announced separately by Microsoft, like Forza. There’s enough “outrage” about these titles coming to PS5; allowing Sony to be the ones to announce Halo could exacerbate the hurt feelings (not that I care). I hope I’m wrong, though; would be great to get an official announcement!

My wallet is going to be hurting this year (if the rumours are true): Master Chief Collection, Gears Collection, Borderlands 4, GTA 6…crazy year. Gears and Halo were the two franchises I was saddest to ditch when I moved back to PlayStation, and I’m so glad that I’ll be able to play them on PS5 (hopefully). Microsoft will also make a mint if they release these. Win/win! I know some Xbox fans will be disappointed, but at least there’ll be a bigger pool of players for multiplayer.

@nomither6 Well, remember certainly at the start, there WAS no real first party. Sony started snapping up devs soon after, of course (Psygnosis, etc.) But I’d have to say it was a combination. You had games like Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, and so on, along with great third party games like Tomb Raider and really good fighting game ports (a big deal in the ‘90s) like Street Fighter and Tekken. I think PS1 was successful because it was marketed as a cool gaming platform, AND it was where devs wanted to be due to the voluminous, inexpensive CD format. Sorry for the long response, but I hope that it made sense!

@nomither6 “ outside of mario kart , smash bros and goldeneye - was there any other reason people had a n64 for the most part & wasn’t it seen as a couch-co-op machine ?”

Back in the day, those were basically “forever games” like Fortnight, and they were killer apps to boot. Don’t forget Mario 64. So those were very good reasons to own the console.

Diablo 4. Long campaign! Really having fun with it. Interspersing some WRC 9 and COD BLOPS Cold War multiplayer in there for the twitching (it was free on PS Plus). COD fun so far, but what’s with installing the game, and then having to install multiple texture packs?! Then I go back into the game, and campaign hasn’t been installed…and it’s like 200 gigs?! Thank god I have a 2 TB SSD installed in my PS5!

Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

I think consoles represent a mindset. You can argue that it’s easy to set up a PC in your living room now, but nothing will ever beat the plug and play nature of a console. And as long as Sony keeps making consoles backward compatible, gamers can keep their collections while also being able to play the latest and greatest. I personally will keep buying consoles as my means of gaming.
