This game holds up visually - I still can't believe what it could get out of the PS3. And that battle music - it's the only reason I lasted playing for 10 hours before getting bored to tears.
I have one of each type. My launch model 60Gb sits dead in a box in the closet. I'll pony up the $600 to get it Frankenstein'd one of these days. The Super Slim is my primary - I dusted it off last to play Devil May Cry 4 and Spec Ops: The Line. One thing I have been hoping for is native Dualshock 4 support since my DS3's keep dying, but I do have a new solder station and a drawer full of bad controllers. Some new stick modules and a few new batteries should solve that issue.
With my bedroom completely back together, I now have time to.... catch up on outside work. I'll keep it light this week and just trim the Crape Myrtles.
The upside is that my PS5 is hooked up again. I'll be continuing on to the late game of Fantasian and wrapping some quests there. Finally diving into Fobia: St Dinfna Hotel and having a blast too.
@TheKurgan I'm playing through Fobia now. It's a good price for the game. Good puzzles - the game doesn't go out of its way to insult your intelligence, but some are pretty simple. It's definitely a RE7 clone.
Firewatch is great for $2.99. It's very short - I cleared it in about 3 hours, and I felt like I was taking my time.
My bedroom is almost finished - I can taste it. Need to redo the last floor plank around the door, tack the trim back on, clean up, and get furniture back in. The TV needs work - when I replaced the LEDs, I didn't use gloves when handling the lense (it's edge-lit), so there are blotches and spots on the picture. Just need to pull a bazillion screws, get it out, and see what degreaser will get it clean. My PlayStation has been unplugged for 2 weeks, so I'm looking forward to being able to play again. I'm in the endgame of Fantasian Neo Dimension, and I think I'll try to pivot to Trails into Reverie after.
@LikelySatan There's an almost perfect version if you're willing to do a few things. The PSP version runs great in PPSSPP and has patches for the slowdown. I've been able to move the save file I've been picking at for the last 16 or so years from PSP to PC to experience Dark Knights scaled up to 4K - it's pretty great.
Hey, it's another "female protagonist fights things in a post apocalyptic world with a piece of metal" game. It looks cool. I'm looking forward to the reviews.
Injured myself last weekend, and I'm healthy enough now to get back to redoing my bedroom floor - it's needed it for a while after a section was damaged by a ruptured water heater. I reckon I have 200sq ft down with another 100 to go, but it's going to be a doozy as the cuts get finer.
When I break for the evening, I'll fire up the Raspberry Pi and go for something 16 bit for a bit before going to sleep on the sofa - hopefully for the last night, but I think this last section of floor is going to kick my tail.
@Flaming_Kaiser If you haven't played the game, then play the game. Konami very recently re-released it. Don't mistake my satisfaction for the current state of the game for whatever it is you're inexplicably accusing me of. Grow up.
Standard edition is showing out of stock for me, but that deluxe edition is really cheap for what it is, so I did what I never do - bought it immediately.
Oh, GameStop. I managed one about 20 years ago, and they weren't great to work for, but we had standards. I walk into one now and the place is always frumpy-looking. Shelves disorganized, little doodad boxes all dusty, staff just totally unfriendly. If I buy anything locally, it's at the mom and pop store or BestBuy. Usually it's Amazon or eBay though.
I did randomly pop into my favorite game store last night to find a copy of Onimusha on PS4 for $25. That's gotten very expensive on the secondhand market.
If I have time to game this weekend, it'll be continuing Fantasian Neo Dimension. I managed 10 hours this past week - getting closer to wrapping all of the side content before I tackle what looks to be the end game. One thing I love about this game is its pick-up-and-play nature. I can do a dungeon and its boss in about an hour and feel satisfied.
In reality, I've got running around to do, lots of furniture to move, then I'm finally starting on ripping up and replacing my bedroom floor. When I need a break from that, I have a new kitchen faucet arriving tomorrow that I can install.
@LifeGirl We'll have to agree to disagree. I see the inventory system as a quirk of the series that adds some challenge. I feel like the earlier games have aged fine for what they are, but I understand where others would disagree.
I don't know why, but I can't get excited for this one. Loved the first four, got bored by Ground Zeroes, and never even played MGSV. A remake of Snake Eater should be a slam dunk, but ... eh? Kind of like the Dead Space remake, I just don't see a need for it.
I have the first one sitting in my Epic Games library - it was free. I tried it, and my PC struggled quite a lot, so it got relegated to the black hole that is my backlog. If I need a JRPG break and nothing else grabs me, I'll give it a spin with my new(er) rig.
@Zeroo No, I manage 6 or 7 if time permits. My backlog is just insane though. 25% of the PS5 games I own are still in plastic, and a few that aren't have been played exactly once. Those are the only two I'm interested in for this year, and other than that, it will be exploring the plethora of games I already have.
Daybreak 2! I probably won't play it for a long while, but Falcom physical copies don't last long at all before it becomes necessary to over-pay on the secondary market. Between that and Expedition 33, I'm probably set for 2025 unless a new Resident Evil drops later this year. Please, Capcom?
It reminds me of a PS2 era game with the art style, though the combat is a little bit like the Trails games without the movement. Some of the bosses can be pretty darn tough, but it's been really enjoyable.
I like physical games because, first, get off my lawn, and second, because it keeps competition in the space. No physical games means no competition for PlayStation software - if a game's been out for 4 years and they still want to charge full price for it, well, they can do that, and there's nothing you can do about it. A physical copy means that it's either significantly cheaper on eBay (like the copy of Diofield Chronicle I picked up a few months ago, win for me) or significantly more expensive (Trails from Zero, why didn't I buy you for $40 when I had the chance? Win for them). Digitally, Sony wins in most cases.
I'm not completely anti-digital - I grabbed Fobia: St. Dinfna Hotel last week for $3. Great buy for a cool RE7 clone. I've also purchased many of my favorites in both formats - Resident Evil 2 (original and remake), Final Fantasy Tactics, Persona 4 Golden, etc - I get to have my cake with the box on the shelf and eat it too with the convenience.
Playing Fantasian Neo Dimension at the moment. Great game with a pretty wicked difficulty spike. It definitely has a little jank, but it's the most fun I've had in a while. Great if you love the PS1/PS2 era hidden gem JRPGs.
@MaelysLeFleau Very cool. I wasn't aware that you were either the arbiter of objective game review scoring or that you somehow know the entirely of my gaming history. That's fascinating. Tell me more.
3/10 is the most accurate rating I've seen for this game. The engine was not suited for what they wanted to do with the game - a hallway simulator with a smattering of action shooting, terrible melee, and obnoxious QTEs.
I was so disappointed in this game that I didn't touch Resident Evil for years after this - and it's my favorite game franchise. I remember taking the day off work just to play it, beating the Leon campaign, playing 10 minutes of the Chris campaign, and taking it to my local game store to sell it. It's the only mainline RE game I don't have a physical copy of, and I'm kind of OK with that.
Dynasty Warriors 2 is one of those games I remember playing with my friends - and not even the full game. We wore out the demo disc because it was so novel - a big battlefield, fluid controls, tons of enemies. I collected them for a while including all of the Xtreme Legends games until around DW 5 when I just stopped having fun. I did hang on to my copies of Dynasty Tactics 1 and 2 (underrated PS2 strategy games, lots of fun).
Played the demo of this right away - and boy, it really hasn't changed much except for looking sharper. I think the friendly AI is a bit worse and the enemy AI is a bit better because I ended up losing the battle through not fault of my own.
I appreciate the series for what it is, but this one isn't moving the needle enough to be a buy.
Heading to Mom's to get a few things done. Her car isn't starting, so that could be 5 minutes or an hour. I think it's just been sitting too long, so I'll take a jumper pack and a charger. Worst comes to worst, a reman starter for her car is only $130, is easily accessible, and only has three bolts. We'll see. My son is all of a sudden back in to Fortnite, so I may play a few games with him. Fantasian Neo Dimension has my full attention at the moment. It's such a throwback that I can't help but love it.
Speaking of throwback, I may follow suit with everyone else - bust out the GameCube with the copy of RE4 that I bought 20 years ago and spend some time with it. I unfortunately don't have a CRT display, but one of my TVs does have component in, and I happen to have component cables for the GameCube. We'll see how it does.
Man, I'm falling behind on Trails. I haven't even finished Reverie yet. I'll buy it day 1 anyway because Falcom, but I'll have to skip the demo for now. Awesome!
I love RPGs, and I love Atlus. I've been trying for three days to finish the Metaphor demo (the full game is sitting on my shelf, still in plastic) and it's just not grabbing me. Persona 5 didn't grab me at first either, and now I have over 300 hours in Royal - so maybe this is just a slow start. I am going to finish the demo for Fantasian - that one did grab me, and I'm looking forward to diving back in.
This morning is going to be shoveling snow, burning trash, and perhaps grocery shopping. NFL playoffs start today, so I imagine there will be lots of football watching.
It was a hard choice, but I went with P3 Reload over Silent Hill 2. I loved both games - the only measure I have is that I immediately wanted to jump back in to Reload after the credits. Silent Hill 2, I was glad to be finished with it. I'll go back to it for NG+ and shenanigans with the chainsaw at some point.
I'm still in the minority of people who don't understand why Rebirth gets the love that it does. The combat in the demo was so bad to me as to be unplayable. I'm sure there's something that I'm missing and I'm just not doing it correctly, but it seems horribly imbalanced.
Why does hitting a small monster with a giant sword do next to no damage and allow it to continue with doing whatever it was doing, but if it smacks Cloud with his little tail, Cloud goes flying, takes a ton of damage, and interrupts his action while going so far as to waste a bar? Why does it seem so difficult to micro-manage each party member? They never seem to have their bars built up when I need them! The flying enemies are a chore, and that last boss in the demo doubly so - I think that's what helped me decide that as much as I adore the original Final Fantasy VII, this one just isn't for me. I'm just surprised that it's as highly rated as it is.
The Mass Effect trilogy is my comfort food. I'm working through ME2 at the moment and enjoying it as much as I ever have. I keep thinking I'll mix it up with a JRPG in my backlog (Soul Hackers 2, SMT V, Trails into Reverie, DQXI, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Star Ocean 4, Tokyo Xanadu, Tales of Arise, Xenogears, Breath of Fire IV, or maybe finish the demo for Fantasian....?) but I can't decide. So... I'm just sticking with the ME trilogy for now.
I'm a consultant these days, so only two weeks of paid vacation a year from my agency. I've saved most of it to take the week off, and my client is giving me another free paid day - awesome stuff.
I always revisit old favorites this time of year in parallel with something new. Last year, it was Signalis and Star Ocean The Second Story. I'm playing through Mass Effect Legendary Edition right now - probably my 8th or 9th time through the game, but my first in the Legendary Edition.
Backlog wise, I have Alan Wake 2, Octopath II, Trails Through Daybreak, and Conscript still in plastic with several more that I've played for a bit but not finished. I may spend most of my gaming time on Mass Effect and then sample some other games I've started to see what grabs me.
I'll be getting some parts in for a project shotgun I've been working on, and hopefully the (correct) LED strips arrive for me TV that needs to be fixed. Between all of that and family, I will have plenty to keep me busy!

Just FYI - a lot of the Amazon prices aren't lining up. Dead Island 2 for example shows $30.99 on the US site.

Re: Talking Point: Is Forza Horizon 5's PS5 Price Point Too High?
I'd pay $60 for a copy to put on my shelf, another $60 to gift to a friend who loves these kind of games.
With the way they're releasing it, I might be tempted to grab it if it hits $7.99. That's what I'm willing to pay for a digital license for this game.

Re: Now You Can Try One of the Most Underrated PS5, PS4 Games of the Year for Free
This will be next after I wrap up the demo for Fantasian. I love these throwback games so much.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2025?
Just Expedition 33 and Trails through Daybreak 2 for me. I wouldn't mind a light year of releases - I have some catching up to do!
