Troy Baker, one of the most prolific actors in video games, has said he still feels as though he's "just got started" despite his impressive body of work.
You could throw a dart at any number of notable games released in the last 15 years or so, and you'll have pretty good odds of hitting one featuring Baker's voice or performance in some capacity.
Well, despite how successful he's been and all the big projects he's been part of, the actor — who recently turned 50 — is far from done.
Speaking to GamesRadar, Baker talks about his career in the realm of games to date, as well as describing how he feels after each job comes to an end.
"I still feel like I just got started," he says. "At the end of every job, no matter the size or scope of the role or the project, my last session is always the one where I go, 'OK, now I've got it figured out. Can we start?'"
He elaborates on what he means, describing how he always aims to carry forward learnings from previous roles into the next.
"I always feel like I've got one take in me, one better take in me, one other idea that I wanted to try, or I've learned enough about the character, the story, the process, to where I feel more equipped.
"And it's a bit of a raw feeling – I think other actors have felt the same, I'm not alone in that. But what I've learned also to couple with that is the fact that the goal is then take that lesson that I learned from this project, and apply it to the next, and realize that I will be in better service to the next project if I learn as much as I can from the last one."
Baker is credited in many games, from small, indie projects to some of the biggest titles of their respective years.
He's perhaps best known for playing Joel in The Last of Us series, but he's also played key roles in the likes of Death Stranding 1 and 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, inFAMOUS: Second Son, and BioShock Infinite, to name a few.
His most recent game is the relatively small MOUSE: P.I. for Hire, where he voices the lead character, and it's known that he'll be reuniting with Naughty Dog with a role in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
"I feel like my best work is ahead of me," Baker says, adding that he's unsure what to expect moving forward. "I don't know what that looks like. I don't know if I'll ever get another opportunity like I've been given with these, but I also know that this industry doesn't owe me anything."
