This sounds like a great game to play "d-day 1", i.e. discount-day 1 when the price gets reduced to 19.99€.
Edit: @HRdepartment well, you win by being a few seconds faster.
And if anyone is wondering why would I pay so much, it's because there is a steelbook version out there.
@nomither6 Nice 😂😂 And the prices got me, to be honest. I actually like the series and although I didn't play the 3rd one I hope the 4th entry will actually be good and fun as it was during the early days. I'll wait for a discount and get the steelbook version if there will be such a thing.
Here is a breakdown of some of the things we as the consumers have just accepted but is really absurd if you think about it:
1. Day 1 patch: Now this is something completely absurd. Studios don't manage to bring the complete game out on time and sometimes even lie about the state of the game when it comes out (looking at you MindsEye and Cyberpunk). Then in the close/distant future they manage to get the product as close to what they wanted to achieve in the first place (looking at you CyberPunk). The equivalent from the consumer perspective would be to preorder the game for half the price and then to pay the rest of the price when it actually gets finished.
2. Disc containing only a licence: the most absurd thing out there which I explained in my previous post.
3. Collector's editions without the game: This is actually called a "collector's box" which is basically a goodie bag full of mostly meaningless merchandise. The absurd part here is the price most of the time, but there is a recent exception to this. Expedition 33 has actually received a collector's edition with the game which sold out in hours but the nice folks at Kepler/Sandfall have managed to give people a "monolith set" which is a goodie box but it is filled with the collector's edition content without the game itself and the contents are amazing as well as the price being great. This is how it should be done: you get bang for you buck.
Conclusion: We all like different things and this is OK, but we must be clear when something is being lazy / wrongly advertised / anti-consumer / etc so voting with your wallet is the best thing to do here. Besides, we all are blessed with huge backlogs full of great games so why bother with half-baked physical or digital products.
And yes: Having a backlog is a blessing not a curse so I wish you all a great gaming weekend and enjoy your backlogs!
@N0CYmr0k To put it in a perspective: since we can't download a car, imagine buying it and when it arrives you only get the wheels but the rest of it will be shipped to you gradually. (PS5 era Microsoft games)
A slightly better thing would be to get the entire car but it can only drive to 80km/h due to a bad engine so you'll get a new engine in a few days (PS3/4/5 era games)
The best solution would be for you to get a car which can drive without any or with only minor issues the moment you buy it (PS1/PS2 era games)
Basically the point is this: if a company provides physical media than they should at least try to get the best possible version of the game on the disc, otherwise they should just stick to digital only distribution because buying a physical disc just to start a digital download is an oxymoron.
@DKG-85 That's nice to hear! To be honest, I actually have some kind of hope that a future update alleviates most of the problems with the game and bump it up to a fun and stable 7/10 experience which would make it a rough/hidden gem.
Gears of war will come with 2 discs so that first disc triggers downloading single player content and the second disc triggers a multiplayer content download.
I actually use my 30th anniversary Dualsense with my PS1 console via the 8bitdo adapter and occasionally with my PS5 so that's one less hassle to deal with.
I would give an objective score of 3/10 because I didn't play the game, generally don't like souls games but I did read that a lot of people find that single player mode was not good on this multiplayer title at launch.
@get2sammyb I'm having my fingers crossed for years! Even today I spin it up with my buddies on a small sony trinitron just to see who is the fastest in Mechanical Pencil Basher. After a couple of pints we're rollin' on the floor with laughter. What a game!
@Oram77 I would guess Metaphor because if I read correctly it is more forgiving regarding its daily routines gameplay. I've played Persona and you need to plan your days. I didn't plan very thoroughly and still managed to play the game without major issues but it can be hard at times when compared to more traditional JRPGs.
I just wanted to chime in but of course, someone who actually played Persona and Metaphor will give you a much better answer.
@Mintie I'm really hoping it happens today on summer game fest!
Even tough FF8 is my favorite (yeah, I know), FF9 always had the best atmosphere and is easily my 2nd best. So we better pray to Alexander and Ramuh that tonight Geoff Keighley brings us the joy of being crushed by Ozma in 4k60.
@Oram77 I'm still believin'! The anniversary is a month away, they must announce it soon because it's one of the few unannounced games from the Nvidia leak. I'm sure we'll be unable to aquire Excalibur II in 4k60 in the near future.
Square Enix should have removed some of those items and increased the price of the collector's box while the game should be more expensive if bought together with the box. Then only true collectors would buy that exclusive product.
Just a reminder to quickly preorder the collector's edition from square enix store containing random things for an affordable price of 289€. It will be out of stock soon so be quick because these are essential items.
This doesn't feel right to me because I only trust big publishers like Sega who sell these updates as a completely new game without any upgrade path options.
@Shepherd_Tallon I'm always having my hopes up for the revival of all forgotten franchises stuck on PS1/2. Onimusha is making a big comeback, so Tenchu must also return from the shadows!
@Dragoon1994 Yeah, I'm living in EU so the same thing applies when I buy from LRG. The games they release are available digitally sooner and far cheaper so that is the best route to take. But as a collector I like to have physical versions of games I like (retro titles especially) so I buy some of LRG steelbook editions.
There is one positive side to buying physical LRG releases: if I ever intend to sell these, they usually go up in price over time where standard retail versions of those games become cheaper. I won't sell my collection unless it's absolutely necessary, but this is what I usually tell myself before paying the fool's taxes to LRG.
@Slideaway1983 @Dragoon1994 I understand why people dislike LRG and usually I avoid them and just buy retail versions of the games I like. But sometimes I tend to purchase their "middle ground" editions which include a steelbook so the price is somewhat bearable after taxes. Their collector's editions are too expensive and filled with stuff I don't need so I avoid those 200$+ goodie bags.
Limited Run Games are releasing a "Classic Edition" which comes with a slick steelbook and Sega Genesis game case. I was on the fence here, but after seeing the trailer, I have to say that this game looks like a nice addition in a game collection.
