Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Sales

It seems as though Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still selling rather well, almost five whole months since its debut back in April.

In a recent interview with French outlet Clips du Lundi (as spotted by Gamereactor), members of developer Sandfall Interactive state that the RPG has now sold more than 4.4 million copies worldwide.

Previously, it was confirmed that the title had topped (a very fitting) 3.3 million sales one month after release. This means that in around the last four months or so, Clair Obscur has tagged on at least another 1.1 million units.

It's fairly uncommon for a game to rack up these kinds of numbers this far out after launch. Oftentimes, you'll notice that publishers push big discounts or even permanent price drops to stimulate additional commercial success — but Clair Obscur still seems to be riding the wave of positivity that it's enjoyed since release.

Granted, 4.4 million sales isn't a mind-blowing figure in the grand scheme of things — especially when it comes to the AAA market — but we need to remember that this was a comparatively low budget project that embraced a lower price point. And in that sense, the title's done very well for itself.

This is a case of a passionate studio crafting something unique and compelling, while not being held back by the kind of corporate decisions that can so often sour an audience. It's clear that the rave reviews and incredibly positive word of mouth have worked wonders for Clair Obscur.
