Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, the timed Switch 2 exclusive re-release of RGG Studio’s excellent late 80s adventure, will belatedly arrive on the PS5 from 8th December.
But there’s a catch! There’ll be no upgrade path for existing owners of the PS4 game, and you won’t be able to transfer your save progress either.
Here’s how SEGA describes it:
“Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is the definitive edition of the critically acclaimed prequel to the Yakuza series. Fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka entertainment districts as yakuza Kazuma Kiryu and cabaret club manager Goro Majima in an epic crime drama of intertwined fates that created legends.”

The Director’s Cut expansion “gives deeper insight into key incidents and character backstories with never-before-seen cutscenes”.
It also includes the new Red Light Raid multiplayer mode, allowing you to “join forces with friends and choose from 60 playable characters to take down hordes of enemies”.
Physical copies of this game will be available, so if you prefer to own this on Blu-ray, then you’ll have that option in addition to a traditional digital purchase.
