PS5 Console 825GB

Sony hasn't said a word about it, but the rumoured base PS5 model sporting less SSD space has now been confirmed to be real, as it's available now across Europe. Instead of 1TB, the updated digital version of the base PS5 now comes with an 825GB SSD in Europe. This loss in storage space is said to combat the need for yet another PS5 price increase.

Billbil-Kun spotted the rollout of the updated models, with their outer packaging now stating the console inside includes 825GB of storage space for games, saves, and media:

Said to be called a Chassis E series of the digital base PS5, it reverts the console back to its original SSD size of 825GB, which the system launched with at the start of the generation. Follow-up models increased the storage space to 1TB, but now it's gone back down again in Europe. Since 2020, the PS5 has been hit with two price rises, and so too have the Xbox Series X|S and original Nintendo Switch.

Rather than the traditional approach of lowering the price as the generation progresses, the PS5 has bucked the trend with price increases. When confirming them, Sony has said they're a result of "a challenging economic environment".

Now, instead of having to pay more, you're getting a worse version of the PS5 — according to reliable speculation.
