Re: Talking Point: Is PS4's September Starting to Look Way Too Crowded?

Cheski

I'm not interested in Dragon Quest, so that doesn't bother me. I am the sort of person who has fairly limited game time though, and having both Spider-Man and Tomb Raider come out right next to each other will keep me busy. I also want to play Spyro, and I'll get to that when I can.

I also don't think anyone needs to buy every game they are interested in as soon as it come out. I see people complain about having a backlog fairly often, but the solution for the general population is to simply buy games when you are actually ready to play them. It rarely makes sense to buy a game and stick it on your shelf for months or years, or juggle multiple solo games at once. With how quickly games drop in price or go on sale these days, another deal or complete "game of the year" version is always around the corner.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think About Remasters?

Cheski

I think they are good in certain situations. I did not own a PS3, so having the first party or exclusive games get ported over has been good for me. Most third party games though, I am not usually interested in. I either played it the first time around or was not interested in them the first time.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on EA These Days?

Cheski

EA should just focus on what they are good at. That is, sports games and casual stuff like the Sims. I don't particularly like or dislike them these days, I nothing them. I would actually prefer that they let their Star Wars license expire or sell it off, sell BioWare and those properties to another publisher, and just focus on what they are good at and what they seem to care about.

Re: Review: Secret of Mana (PS4)

I prefer the original sprites myself, they were more charming than this for sure. I'll stick with my SNES Classic, and hope the collection on Switch gets localized.

Re: Foul-Mouthed Platformer Rad Rodgers Heading to PS4

Cheski

Looks like it is trying too hard for sure. The gameplay itself looks pretty standard for a "retro inspired" indie game. I agree that I might have found the humor appealing when I was a teenager in the 90s and early 2000s, but now it just makes me cringe a bit.

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated PS4 Games of 2018

Cheski

Spider-Man and God of War are the two I am most excited for, followed by Red Dead. I am intrigued by the Secret of Mana remake, but I am not fond of the art style. I am looking forward to seeing more of Mega Man 11 as well. I'll be excited for Kingdom Hearts 3 whenever it is looking like it will actually launch. Lots of games, but those are a few that are sticking out for me.

Re: SIE CEO John Kodera Says not to Worry About First Party Games Going the Service Route

Cheski

I think Sony has done a decent job of monetizing where it makes sense. Things like PS Vue and Now absolutely make sense as subscription services. I use Vue and will never go back to cable or satellite for TV. If I decide to switch to Hulu live TV or something, cancelling is simple since there is no contract. That's a service I can get behind.

When it comes to the games, I largely don't play multiplayer anymore, and have never really had an issue finding single player games on my PS4. I have also not really felt like the games I am interested in are asking for additional purchases all the time either. Looking at what single player games are coming out, I am not really worried about it.

Re: Don't Expect to Unlock Dissidia Final Fantasy NT's Platinum Trophy

Cheski

I don't really care about trophies/achievements myself, but those look pretty brutal. I think you guys are right though, this will just encourage people to boost for these. I'm not big on online multiplayer anymore anyway, and online related trophies are sort of what turned me off on them to begin with. Any trophy that requires something that is just tedious or a grind (going to dozens of markers on the map to tap X to collect some useless trinket for example) is a waste in my opinion as well.

Re: Guide: When and Where to Watch PSX 2017

Cheski

I'll check out whatever they are doing tonight, and maybe some of the panels tomorrow. I am just going in expecting a few release dates, God of War and Spider-Man being the two I want the most.

Re: Sony: We Can't Ignore the Nintendo Switch

Cheski

Sony has the home console market nailed down, I don't think they need to worry about the Switch. It is a different product that is appealing for different reasons. They are better off sitting side by side.

Instead of ignoring it or competing with it, I think they should embrace it. Putting some of their services on Switch might be more beneficial and certainly a less expensive option than going head to head with it.
