It's simple:
Favorite game of all time.
Best PS4 game of all time.
Game of the Year for sure.
Incredible game, and can't wait to arrive home and finish all the sidequests and get the plat.
@AFCC can’t say game of the year yet when you have red dead redemption coming out fall. I still say beside gta 5 but is my top 5 game I played in this generation.
Great game. Hit that point last night in the game where you REALLY! playing God of War... and it was amazing.
I refuse to fast travel just to see if I get another crap story in the boat from Grumpy Dad, Kratos... who would think a GOW game would make you LOL... one of the best games I have played this generation.
From Monster Hunter, to NinoKuni2 to GOW and Next is Yakuza6 on my list. First 4 months of 2018 on PS4 has been fantastic for me.
I thinkkk it's my second favourite PS4 game after Bloodborne. I need a few more months for it to settle, but that's how I feel right now.
Still awesome. I'm not going to call it my favorite PS4 game, yet, but it's looking like that's how it will end up.
@AFCC "Best PS4 game of all time"
I mean, it's good, but do you think it's better than the ps4 games that came before 2013?
I wish you could choose more than one option for your favorite thing because the combat, exploration, story, characters, puzzles etc all feed into each other and make the game what it is so it was hard to choose just one. It’s easily the best ps4 game imo passing horizon,Uc 4 and bloodborne and I just can’t see even rdr 2 besting it for goty.
Easily has become my favorite game of all time!
Been a long work week so I’ve not played as much as I’ve wanted to. Pretty sure I’m stil verrry early into the game.
It’s not in my top 5 PS4 games yet, but it’s already my favourite game of the year.
@get2sammyb yeah I was wavering but in the end it passed even bloodborne has my favorite not just ps4 game but game this generation. The story, characters, puzzles and combat especially with the axe throw mechanic makes it more fun to play than bloodborne and the exploration is just as good as what you find in bloodborne.
I am absolutely loving it. I'd still say i'm realtively close to the start, but the combat, world, story and characters have all blown me away. I cant wait to see what else is waiting for me!
Was liking it but couldnt quite get to grips with the combat and upgrade system. Decided to spend 5 days grinding for mists in Niflheim ... which I hated at first. Kept getting killed over and over, usually because of my own greed ... then after a few days it all clicked!! Got really addictive. Each enemy has a way to phase it quickly with the right attack. Can clear it easily now on each try. Think im kind of a master at the combat now ... Thought I was NEVER goin to be able to beat a single Valkyrie BUT after I defeated my first one (after tons of deaths), I defeated every other one on my first attempt. Im pretty much fully upgraded now ... I'm a massive Metroidvania fan so going back and exploring the islands is one of the highlights for me. Dont want it to end so gonna explore everywhere again and mop up loose ends b4 I head for the finish line. After a great initial impression, then my meh-ish phase, i can safely say its probably my favourite GoW game and right up there with Horizon and LoU for me!! Simply stunning!!
This is the best game on ps4, from the story, combat, exploration, and level-up system, is all top notch. The combat is the best 3D combat ever but amazingly, my favorite part of gow is the story and banter between kratos, atreus and mimir. I play the game for about 30 hours but I'm still not too far in to the story because I explore nearly every nook and cranny of the realm, getting my ass kicked by high level (purple bar) enemy lol
I'm really liking the game, but honestly it feels less like a GoW game and more like the culmination of everything that's come before it. Uncharted, Last of Us and Horizon. I swear that big circular spinning door is straight out of U:LL which I just finished last month. And the banter is U2. And the journey TLoU. If somebody has told me Naughty Dog made this, or Guerilla after Horizon - I joked to my wife last night this was Horizon 2 - I wouldn't bat an eye.
Now I'm still only 12 hours in, so I have a ways to go, but every time the camera swings by Kratos face you just see how old he is, poor guy, he's barley Kratos anymore. And he hardly fights like Kratos either w/o the Blades of Chaos. Now some of that is me, I've upgraded the boy and rely on him a lot to do so, but Kratos never relied on anyone but himself and he was total kick butt. I feel like if this was somehow the first GoW game somebody played their reaction would be - "What's the big deal about Kratos, he's not all that."
So as far as GoW games go , I think I would recommend one of the earlier games for the full Kratos effect. This may be a better game overall, and it's certainly more to my liking, but it's barely a GoW game now is it?
Inn case I'm not explaining that well my favorite Zelda game is Hyrule Warriors, though Zelda BotW is a close 2nd, and the only Starfox game I could ever get through is Starfox Adventure. Sonic Adventure is also my favorite Sonic game, so my tastes are my own.
So if anybody asks, dont' start w/ this GoW, no matter how good it is, play a few of the earlier 5 first for full blown Kratos, or even Ascension to see what Kratos is all about. Then play GoW for a fuller gaming experience, if you like that sort of thing.
I haven't felt compelled to play it since Sunday, but it's clearly a solid game. I just haven't felt drawn to it in the evenings like I would other games that have become my favourite. But I'm sure I'll get back on it this weekend!
It's a good game no doubt but far from the best. The puzzles to get upgrades are a bit of a pain but other than that it's good. Not a fan of t'ealc as kratos
@get2sammyb more power to you. But GOW doesn’t push back at you like BB. It’s way more fair in difficulty. I tried B.B. for 3 hours and I said enough of this game destroying me.
@fluggy is that the fire ash area you travel to? I just did that favor and got to the 2nd arena. I’m like I think I need to be more powered up before continuing but wasn’t sure?
@Morenoj1220 I say Goty cause I know for me it will be! And trust me I'm a big big fan of Red Dead Redemption (better than gta4 and gta5 imo) but I know that they won't reinvent their franchise that much! It will probably be similar but bigger in scope!
So you’re gonna keep asking us what we think about it every week? 😅
@naruball is this a troll or a serious question? X) you know what I meant with my comment
Awesome game so far....but I can’t place a vote in the 3rd and 4th category because I’ve only just left the Lake Of Nine (after exploring everything that I possibly can) to continue the main story quest.
I'd go even further still, I'd say it's the best game in the PS4. It's definitely the best looking game of this generation. When you factor in how good the story is, the combat, the world building, the optional quests.... You could spend a hundred hours easy playing. That's on one run, then there's hard mode.... It completely blows everything else out of the water.
Except the revenants. They can get in the sea.
@Morenoj1220 considering RDR2 will likely have online out the wazoo I'd say it's no contest. GoW doesn't nickel and dime players, it has way too much class for that.
@smythelove
No. Niflheim is the area with the deadly mist. Its a procedurally generated labyrinth that keeps changing each time u enter. If u collect enough mists u can purchase the 3 best armours and various other power ups. If u commit to it for a few days u also get enough xp to max out just about everything in your arsenal. The ash area is various combat trials. You get smouldering embers there to purchase other armour.
@fluggy ahh thank you! Sounds like I have much more to do 😊
My second favorite game in 2018 so far after Monster Hunter. This is going to be one crowded race for GOTY...
GOTY?! GOML! Game Of My Life! the best of the best, take the good stuff from Uncharted 4 + The Last Of Us + Rise Of The Tomb Rider and enhance just everything!
My thoughts are, I am sad I haven't had time to do anything other than stick it on my shelf since launch day
Not started it yet but I'm hopeful this will be the game that finally topples Bloodborne as my fav PS4 game so far!
It’s is reallly well executed but not innovative at all.
@kyleforrester87 snap.
Its brilliant, I totally get the zelda analogy from another article. I just cant enjoy it like Horizon or MGS 5, maybe due to the lack of variation in the battling and lack of real freedom. The fights so far play out similar every time so its not as good as Ninja Gaiden for me either.
A couple of the things I enjoy though are the npcs - possibly best in class, Kratos is a bit of a jerk though. The interlinking level design is also awesome. That single camera shot is also fantastic, without that it wouldnt be the same game.
Loving Teal'c (Christopher Judge) as Kratos!
@themcnoisy yeah agree regarding the fights. The combat is fine n all but I'm rolling my eyes at a mob of enemies more often than I'm licking my lips.
I am pretty far into the story I think too but i can tell it's not really put its foot on the gas yet so maybe I'll fall in love with it still.
Masterpiece. It is a great game but a bit shorter than I expected. It is completely different from older GOW games, and because of that it cannot be better, it is a completely different thimg. I love this one and I love God of war 2. They are both great for different reasons.
Dang, no one dislikes it. I can’t wait for a price drop. I’ve got too much to play to not wait, but I want this. Best PS4 game? I don’t think it’ll beat Persona 5 as the best game of all time for me, but I bet it’ll be dang good still.
I 100% the game and just kept messing around and fighting random enemies for a couple hours. Normally I come off a game when I finished.
When I did finally decide to come off, a companion mentioned heading somewhere, so I decdied to go. (I'm so glad I did for an extra scene)
I prefer to finish a game first before I say this, but God of War is perfect. It really has the potential to be my game of the generation.
For me, it's good - very good at times - but not mind-blowingly great. Under the hood I don't feel it mechanically does anything really new. And I preferred the combat in Hellblade, personally. It's very well-refined, and I like how it borrows from another Norse-bending brawler, Viking: Battle for Asgard!
@Cheski This. I have a RL job that consumes 4 days weekly, leaving me only 2 days to game, (the other 1 is always dedicated to catching up on TV).
@Jaz007 Same here man, my PS4 backlog is massive, already at 160+ games and growing.
I'd still wait for a deep price cut/sale regardless though, can't afford to be spending $60 on one game.
This might be unrelated but i noticed that this game and other ps4 games are a bit too dark (as in brightness). I always use the recommended brightness but all ps4 games are a bit dark and the lighting is a problem for me sometimes. Is it a game thing or do i have to adjust my monitor/ps4? Thanks in advance for any info regarding this.
@8itmap_k1d I liked hellblade a lot but it’s combat was shallow as heck it doesn’t even approach the depth of gow combat especially once you unlock most of the skills combined with light and heavy runics plus the amulet or whatever skills it’s just so deep.
@dark_knightmare2 It's more the feel of the combat that I preferred. It felt more flowing and weighty. The upgrade system in GOW is fine, although it took a while to work it out!
@Ludens92 If you're finding them too dark definitely try upping the brightness. Try it with your TV first and if that's too bright when watching other stuff, tweak your in-game settings for the games that are too dark.
@ShogunRok thanks. i will try that.
One week later playing in God of War Experience mode: It's hard af and I'm barely 1/4 way there I think I'm not sure if it happens in other modes but goddamn enemies can't be stunned once u give them chance to power up. Doesn't help when I can only play for an hour or so per day because I'll just be stuck in that one area dying to the same mobs over and over. I love a challenge though so it's all good So far it's definitely up there for me as the best game of the year.
God of War really is special but for me, Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 are still ahead in my personal favourite games on PS4.
I think it must be in with a shout of doing well for game of the year awards, only Spiderman or Red Dead 2 could challenge in my opinion.
This is seriously the best game i've played on my PS4, the story, gameplay, content, characters daaaaaaaaamn!! Please don't let this be the last game. I love this so much.
You people are cRaZy! Theres no way its better than the best ps4 game to date... Night in the Woods!
I genuinely do not understand the 10/10. Graphics and acting is great, and it's a very well-made game technically...but the combat system is confusing (why go non-standard?), it's extremely linear, and some opportunities to create atmosphere are lost due to gameplay (boat moving at 60mph for example). Don't get me wrong it's a very good game, but there is no way it should get a 10/10 in my opinion.
@fluggy it sounds like too much commitment lol
