I felt like I was fairly satisfied with what was shown, at least as far as the things I am interested in are concerned. I got some good Spider-Man gameplay. God of War, Shadow of War, Days Gone, Kingdom Hearts 3, and several other games all look great. As for non-PS4 stuff that I am interested in, I was happy with what Nintendo showed.
Yeah this is an unexplored area for the most part outside of the comics. Not only does this mean it isn't an origin story, but he will also have an established history with the community as well as an established rogues gallery. We know this is during a period when Wilson Fisk is in prison, and Parker is trying to find the identity of Mister Negative. This lines up roughly with the Brand New Day run, which I think is a great period to jump on for a game. It is a back to basics run which was definitely welcome at the time. I think a few other well known villains will be featured, but Mister Negative will be the big bad. Much like the Arkham games, it seems like we could encounter any number of Spider-Man villains based on when this takes place.
I think PSX is a better avenue for reveals at this point. There is so much going on at E3 that the little stuff is likely to go unnoticed or simply drowned out by bigger games. All of the attention is on Sony at that event. I think a precedence has been set for reveals last year with Naughty Dog showing up in a big way. I think E3 is a good place to showcase games, but I think PSX is a better place to reveal them.
That's good news at least. I am still a bit concerned about the single player content, but knowing that Drew Karpyshyn is involved makes me feel confident that it will have a good story at least and hopefully have intriguing characters that BioWare is (normally) known for.
I think E3 live stage conferences as a whole should be phased out. With Sony's format being more of a series of trailers and gameplay videos, I don't really see the point of having a hall full of people to show them. Mind this isn't a knock on what they showed or how they showed it, I just don't think it is worth it for them. They could more readily control everything in a pre-made video, and release it at a certain time. That is one area where I think Nintendo got it right. They showed their pre-made video, and then jumped in to hours of coverage via their Treehouse. They had developers come out and talk about their games, answer some questions, and dig a little deeper into the content. They even revealed a few more games there.
Sony has their live developer panels in addition to their stage show already. The more focused "Live from E3" coverage is a better way to dig a little deeper than cramming developers on stage during a short presentation. For whatever reason, people see this as "wasting time" (at least, this is what I see on a different forum I mod) that could otherwise be used for showing more of the games. I thought Sony's content was fine, but I don't think the stage is really necessary anymore. The human interaction was and still is available, it just wasn't shown, nor needed, during their hour conference. You are absolutely right though, it seems like you can't please anyone.
And the idea of "winning" E3 is just silly. Even if I wasn't personally interested in something, I know that there is someone out there excited about it.
I'm looking forward to it. I kind of hope they continue to release spinoffs like this. Even if Drake's story is over, I think there is still more they can do with the series.
It looks like a mix of the Batman Arkham games and Uncharted as far as the cinematics go. It almost seems like the game will be a bit more linear than I thought. I think it looks great. Definitely curious to see where they go with Miles, and I am glad they are using a newer villain like Mister Negative.
@MaccaMUFC I can't speak for everyone, but at least for myself, I am referring to games I can play on the current Playstation or Xbox consoles. PC doesn't even factor in as an option for me. What matters to me is the variety of content I can play (and am interested in playing) on one or the other, and that is what ultimately determines which platform I am going to go with. Xbox simply offers fewer games that I am personally interested in playing across the board than Playstation does, when I take into account all of the software available to those platforms.
They just need to keep showing games, both exclusives and multiplats. I can't even imagine the conference being as poor as Microsoft's just knowing Spider-Man, Days Gone, and God of War will be there, let alone everything else we know is in production. Add in a few surprises, and it should be great.
It was all just more of the same from Xbox this year. They did not offer a compelling reason to pick up an Xbox One (S, X, or otherwise) for anyone not already interested in the brand. It almost feels like Microsoft is not interested in expanding beyond the audience they already have, and it all comes down to the sorts of games they offer.
@Mega-Gazz that's a bit unfortunate. I will keep my eye on it though, because the gameplay looks fun. Online multiplayer just isn't that appealing to me these days. With my limited gaming time, I just get more out of single player games.
I'm not really interested. It's all about the software, and this didn't really offer anything I'm interested in. At least, not anything I can't already play on PS4. I can really only see this appealing to gamers already invested in the Xbox One platform who want better performance out of third party games. If you are not already an Xbox gamer, the Xbox One X won't change that. If you are an Xbox gamer, there isn't much of an incentive to upgrade.
The gameplay looks good, but I am still a bit confused by it. Is this going to be like Destiny? Will it be fully playable as a single player game? Hopefully it is not an online only experience, otherwise I'll skip it.
I put my predictions in. I think The Last of Us 2 will be minimally featured at this E3, maybe another cinematic trailer. This one will be all about God of War, Days Gone, and Spider-Man. I expect at least one to release this year, and launch windows for the other two in the first half of 2018. As for Death Stranding, I don't really even want to see more of it until there is something to show, but I think another video will show up. I do expect a remaster or port to show up, and I think that will be a Spyro collection.
I'll probably only watch Sony and Nintendo live. I can watch Sony when I am relaxing Monday evening, and Nintendo when I am at work. The ones on Saturday and Sunday though I'll probably skip.
I'm actually playing through the first game right now and am enjoying it for the most part. I think the gameplay shown a few weeks ago was more interesting than this trailer for Shadow of War. I'll probably pick this up, I'm just not sure if I will wait until I get it for $10 with all of the extra content like I did with Shadow of Mordor.
The game was just OK. Coming off of the trilogy though, I expected more than just OK. It seems like a clear lack of focus and direction early on just snowballed into cuts, changes, and an entirely new direction. It seems like the majority of the 5 years was experimenting with ideas that didn't work out, and the game felt rushed when they finally settled on what sort of game they wanted to make. The unfortunate thing now is that the series is shelved.
I'm looking forward to the peek at Spider-Man. Kojima said on Twitter earlier that Death Stranding won't be at E3: https://twitter.com/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN/status/872460812434128896 so I don't think we will be seeing it during his talk here. Sounds more like a general discussion about cinematic games.
The collection definitely looks good, and I am looking for something a bit more "arcadey" after playing so many open world games recently. I am planning on picking it up, just not sure when.
@get2sammyb, judging by the tone of the trailer, recent games in the series (particularly the 2015 reboot from the dame dev), and and an increasingly crowded Fall, this doesn't seem like something I will get excited about. I was curious to see what direction they were headed in with the series, and it seems like more of the same following from the last game. The gameplay could convince me otherwise, but I wasn't all that impressed with this trailer.
It was scheduled to launch the same day as Uncharted: Lost Legacy I believe. I want to play Shadow of War, but I would have gone with Uncharted first. I'll get it right away now.
I was thinking about picking this up once I finish a few other games. I like the idea of the seasons impacting the environment, like The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Click Clock Wood in Banjo-Kazooie.
I just couldn't see this being successful. I don't think there is a need for Sony to try and compete in the handheld market. Nintendo essentially has two on the market at the moment (the 3DS isn't going anywhere for some time), and the Switch is off to a fairly strong start. Sony is best off focusing on their current platforms, including VR.
The setting is interesting, and a lot closer to home than many games like this tend to get. I'll be curious to see more, but it looks like the character designs are sufficiently extreme and anti-government. I'll be curious to see what the plot entails, but I think we know what the gameplay will look like.
It's a neat feature. I hope developers will use it as a way to spotlight some smaller and lesser known games, otherwise I am not sure it is something I would check out all that often. I imagine most lists will look pretty similar, featuring some combination of Uncharted, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Horizon, FFXV, GTA V, or several other games you are likely to see whenever someone mentions must play PS4 games.

Work with Activision again and get the original Spyro games remade.

Spider-Man Noir and Captain Universe would be pretty cool.
