Re: PS5 Has 667GB of Usable Storage Space on Its SSD

Cheski

I think storage is going to be a problem across the board this gen. I typically delete games as I play new ones. I rarely return to stuff anymore, particularly big AAA games. I usually have a few big games and smaller/indie games installed at a time. With as huge as some of the games are getting though, that will go fast.

If they would have been confident enough to show actual gameplay during the reveal (instead of relying on breakdowns and leaked behind closed door footage), it might have been different. If they had taken a leaf out of Insomniac's book and really made the characters their own version, it might have been different. The reveal raised more questions than answers, which is probably not the feeling they wanted to go for when they were ~11 months away from launch at the time.

The character models are clearly inspired by the MCU, but are definitely not the MCU characters. That puts them in a sort of uncanny valley-like place for me.

I'll keep an eye on this, but I am more interested in the inevitable Spider-Man 2 on PS5.

Re: Talking Point: Is E3 Still Relevant?

Cheski

I'd like to see Sony do a State of Play around E3 next year. I don't really need a full stage show, but it would be nice to see them do something on the show floor. I do expect Sony to announce the PS5 at a stage show though, separate from E3.

Re: Reaction: Sony Won't Be Scared of Google Stadia in the Slightest

Cheski

If Stadia does offer any compelling exclusive games, I'll just play them in 1080p with the free version and a DualShock 4 (or eventual 5). I don't see much of a reason to subscribe to play prettier versions of games I played years ago in some cases. I think xCloud coupled with Gamepass has the capacity to be something cool, but Stadia simply doesn't have the game selection I would be looking for.

Re: ANTHEM Player Survey Reveals Some Troubling Statistics

I am playing a bit here and there... not too far from that platinum. Like Mass Effect Andromeda before it, combat can be a lot of fun, but everything else either doesn't work well or is broken. The only thing really preventing me from getting the platinum is the broken drop system. I am playing on the Grandmaster difficulties, and keep getting the same stuff. If I do manage to get a masterclass or legendary drop, it is for a component I already have in that rarity.

Re: Reaction: How Will Google's Stadia Affect PlayStation?

Cheski

I think PS5 will still be the best way to play games going in to next gen. Stadia sounds good in theory, and certainly seems to offer benefits, but the negatives outweigh those at the moment.

I am more interested in what MS is doing with xCould. It seems like xCloud will supplement Xbox, or could be an alternative for some people. The flagship version of the games would be on Xbox One X or traditional gaming PCs, but I could stream to my phone/tablet or Roku on the bedroom TV when the wife wants the main TV. That would offer more value to me personally, if I had the go anywhere capability of Stadia to supplement my traditional console.

Re: Talking Point: PS Now's Delivering Our Streaming Future, So Why Is Sony the Underdog?

Cheski

Game selection and cost will play a big role. The majority of the games on Now are PS3 games, with a handful of early gen PS4 games.

Now is also tied to PS4 hardware and Windows 10 is the only other option. It sounds like the others are trying to hit all platforms. Xbox showed this off working on a phone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thTW3GpyWVI

This combined with Xbox Game Pass would give you access to brand new MS games day one.

It seems like Google wants it everywhere as well: https://kotaku.com/heres-what-were-hearing-about-googles-plans-for-gaming-1833389082

If that is accurate, Google's service would allow you to watch a Twitch stream, then load a save file that the streamer was using and continue where they left off. Or immediately jump into a match with a streamer. Little details like that I think will make it or break it.

Now would have some work to do, and honestly I do not think it is worth it. Sony is great when it comes to dedicated hardware and stellar first party games, and I think they are best off sticking with that approach.

Re: ANTHEM - Fun Combat Can't Save This Unfinished, Terribly Structured Looter Shooter

Cheski

Good review,. I imagine EA/BioWare wants to improve this over time, but I wonder how much of an audience will stick with it by the time that happens.

Hopefully this is not the end of BioWare. I will wait hopefully for another great single player RPG that made them great to begin with. Under EA though, I do not expect that to happen. I'm waiting for EA to blame this on single player somehow.

Re: Soapbox: Crackdown 3 Is Proof That Microsoft Is Still Playing Catch-Up to Sony

Cheski

I like some of the stuff Microsoft is doing at the moment like Game Pass and Play Anywhere, even some of their hardware has been interesting. Looking sttictly at the games though, it is a different story. Outside of Forza and Gears this gen, there has not been much in the way of first party content. Their best non Gears or Forza game was developed by Insomniac.

At this point, I think they should just focus on what they have shown they are good at. Buying up studios and trying to compete with Sony first party just seems like a wasted effort. Fortunately I’ll just play those handful of games that are interesting on PC.
