Shadow of the Tomb Raider Launches 14th September on PS4

I'm so excited! I can't wait, and now I've finally got something that I'll definitely wanna play on release day this year. Immediate pre-order for me!

My only minor (so very minor) criticism is the setting. A lot of fans were hoping for a return to Egypt for the conclusion of Lara's origin story, bringing her full circle to one of her most iconic locations. Contrary to popular belief, Lara's been to South America more times than anywhere else (Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider III, twice in Legend, Anniversary, Underworld and for the entire duration of Guardian of Light... this game will be her eighth visit) whereas she's only ever been to Egypt four times (Tomb Raider, The Last Revelation, Anniversary and for all of Temple of Osiris) and I think she's even been to the Far East more.

They're obviously sticking to the reboot formula of a single open-world location, and that's fine because if it makes the reboot trilogy feel like a unique and complete experience, with a satisfying ending to her origin story, I'm all for it.

But I know I'm not alone in hoping that she returns to some globe-trotting, including the iconic tombs of Egypt, in whatever's next for the franchise.

And if that's my biggest complaint, this is gonna be incredible!

@WebHead A lot of Mayan and South American ancient cultures revolved around a worship and observation of the sun, and a solar eclipse holds some seriously major weight in that context. It's a very powerful myth to explore.

I am a big enough Tomb Raider fan to give this a shot but hope they make a more engaging story than Rise.

Definitely a Day 1 purchase for me...

it is definitely Day 1 buy one for me.. i love first one and Rise of the Tomb Raider. hopefully they better not delay it for any reason

I’m hyped for more TR! Day one for me too.
I’ll probably go see the movie this opening weekend too, although my expectations are more cautious for that. The game I feel more confident will be good.
It is a little close to RDR2, but thankfully it’s a month before it rather than a month after.

FINALLY, some actual jungles! That was always the quintessential Tomb Raider setting to me, so this series is finally starting to tap into that ol' Indiana Jones vibe that originally hooked me all those years ago (aside from the big jugs, but we can't expect that, now can we?).

Gah, now I wish the other Tomb Raider games were still on sale in the PSN store. $26 for both, I think it was. Rats....!!!

I really hope we see less human and more exotic animals as enemy in the game, the early ps1 game really get the adventure and alone in the wilderness feeling, the new game is just like uncharted, good game but it's not a tomb raider game.

@NecuVise Titanfall needs to release during Spring, IMHO. The first one released in April, for example. All those shooters at the end of the year is just toooo much.

@kyleforrester87 @KratosMD If there is any globe-trotting to be done in Shadow, I think it'll be like Rise, where we had that lovely prologue in Syria, but it only lasted for twenty minutes or so before we settled into Siberia. Maybe they'll do two this time, to bookend the main action in South America with an opening and an ending in short, punchy, Uncharted-style levels elsewhere in the world, and maybe one of those could be Egypt.

After the plot revelations in the Croft Manor DLC, I have a big theory about Trinity and Lara's family connections to the ongoing storyline, but I also have a hope that Croft Manor itself might return as a separate main menu training level. Now that Lara's back in the house and had a good rummage, it'd be nice to see that she's returned it to its former glory (and, in doing so, finds the clues that point to South America, maybe?).

I wonder why Square-Enix will not release first on Xbox, maybe because the sales were not good, who knows. xD

Anyway, both games are fun, but I'm not a huge fan of the series for a day one purchase. I will definitely wait for a sale.

@PS_Nation that would be dumb if they release this on xbox one first without PC and PS4 at launch day.. PC gamers and PS4 gamers would be mad if they do that for only Xbox one

Teaser indeed. I am definitely excited for more Tomb Raider.

I bought RotTR before the holidays in a sale but haven't started it yet. Am planning on going to see the movie tomorrow, hope it doesn't spoil the game.

So, while it's obviously good PS4 owners don't have to wait a year like we did with RotTR, I do wonder how they'll make up the lost loot MS must have paid them? The PS4 anniversary version had some extra content, notably PSVR, and I got mine in the steel case. Makes me wonder if a year later we'll get the definitive version? Or maybe they are planning on a "real" 4k version on PS5 and X2. Or the game gets all FFXV. shudder.

I know, TR trilogy next summer, then the following summer next gen remastered. That should make them enough to cover the development costs.

The teaser trailer got me wanting to know more about the game. Hate teaser I wish they should of just came out with a good trailer and show some gameplay.

There will obviously be post-launch DLC. What they do with it is anybody's guess but there will be a season pass and likely have some story expansion. No doubt a PS5 and next Xbox remaster will also happen.

I'm buying day one. Loved the reboot and Rise.

Interesting, especially as September isn't that long to wait - glad they didn't go for the episodic treatment as some initially thought a couple of months back.

All this talk of Mayan temples and eclipses makes me want to break out & read Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun though !!

@PS_Nation Moreso the people who flat out refused to buy Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 because of the exclusivity deal. I think it's pretty pathetic for someone to get so riled up over something like that, especially when there was a plethora of quality games to play in that year of exclusivity. Plus it came with all the DLC, at a lower price.

I have the Reboot and Rise on Xbox One so it would make sense to get this one on that console as well. But I very rarely play the Xbox now, maybe I will get on PS4 after all.

@Gamer83 Well I really liked the reboot - I think even more than Uncharted 4 and I consider myself to be a big Uncharted fan. Well Uncharted 2 fan anyway. As I said, I still need to play Rise, but I am looking forward to it. This will wait for the complete edition as is my new MO.

Seriously though, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I'm considering being done with gaming as a hobby. Not all gaming, but sticking with stuff I know I'll enjoy, like this. But only when it's done, complete, deluxe, ported, whatever.
