Re: Hardcore PlayStation Fans Seem Dead Against a Horizon Zero Dawn Remake or Remaster

Cheski

Is it a remaster or full blown remake? If it is just a native PS5 remaster like Spider-Man, Cyberpunk, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Jedi Fallen Order, Control, or any of the countless other PS4 games that were ported to PS5 with some native upgrades, I don't see the issue and we collectively might be hung up on semantics. I think even Jedi Fallen Order got a 60 fps patch on the PS4 version for PS5 before they released a native PS5 version with more upgrades.

I just keep seeing it described as a remake, which on the heels of The Last of Us Part 1, makes me think that is what this is: a ground up remake of a 5 year old game. That seems unneeded. I guess I fall in the "more info needed" camp.

Re: Poll: Did E3 2021 Suck?

Cheski

Overall it sucked. I enjoyed Nintendo’s Direct, but it just did not seem like E3 was worth the effort overall. Too many shows simply seemed to exist for the sake of existing. If they don’t have anything worth showing off, don’t bother.

On top of that, I still do not understand how publishers don’t get the format right. Use the show itself to introduce games and save in depth stuff and interviews for post show content. I’d rather have something short and sweet instead of a bloated show trying to fill a time slot. Also know the audience of who actually watches these shows. Some games might be better off being discussed elsewhere.

EA doing their own thing next month is probably the right idea.

Re: Soapbox: My Colleagues Bet On How Far I'd Make It Through Final Fantasy VII Remake

Cheski

I’m at the stage of my life where my free time is simply too valuable to waste with something I am not enjoying. I have yet to finish this myself, and have similar complaints. I feel like I want to like it as much as many others, but I am simply missing something. The dialogue makes me cringe and the characters are annoying. That said, the combat is fun.

I have similar thoughts about this as I did with XV. There are good elements there, but the characters are just silly.

Re: Reaction: How Does It Keep Going Wrong for Big Game Launches?

Cheski

It just comes down to money. Whether it is making sure a game is out before the Holiday season is over, or before the fiscal year ends, shipping what you have and fixing it later is more appealing than delaying and not getting those sales now.

Add in a bunch of other issues with major games, mainly the number of hours and people it takes to make them, and I feel like the model is not sustainable. As long as gamers continue to buy them though, publishers will keep at it.

Re: Trophy Hunters Rejoice! Ratalaika Has Arrived on PS5

Cheski

I have a handful of platinums, but I only bother with them if it is a game I am really enjoying. I’d never play something I’m not having fun with for the trophies. And that includes games I did enjoy that require a bunch of busy work for the platinum.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'

Cheski

Yikes. This game was developed, marketed, and released for PS4, XBO, and PC, not for PS5 and XSX. To suggest otherwise, like prioritizing next gen, is basically insulting to consumers who have paid any sort of attention in recent years. This should have been cancelled for PS4 and XBO years ago, the way it was running at launch was not a surprise and it would not have been better in 2018. They actively hid those versions from consumers and reviewers.

I can't believe there are those on Twitter and elsewhere actively defending this.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Cyberpunk 2077 Review?

Cheski

It seems like every review is for PC. I am really curious how it performs on a base PS4, and maybe even more curious how a base Xbox One handles. I will be playing on PS5 myself, but it seems like it will be best to wait for a few patches.

Re: Soapbox: The Conversation About Games Moves Too Quickly

Cheski

I just remember when I was a kid, I would wait for what felt like forever for something new. I used to replay the handful of NES and SNES games I owned over and over since I would not be getting anything new any time soon. I would usually get a game at my birthday in May, and one or two at the Holidays. Obviously part of that was being a kid, but I didn't feel like it was common for people to have backlogs in general.

I also felt like those around me had similar experiences. We would be playing and talking about the same games for literal years. Even getting to the PS2/XB/GCN gen, I still felt like when big games released, it was more meaningful each time and each big release had more staying power. Right now there is so much to play that I rarely replay anything any more unless it gets re-released in some fashion. It's a bit sad to be honest. Like once I get started with Assassin's Creed Valhalla this weekend, a game I am weeks behind with, I will never touch it again once I roll the credits.

I think it is just a shift in culture, but my perception at least is that games (and movies and TV shows to a certain extent when it comes to streaming) are seen as disposable sources of entertainment these days.

Re: Sony Backs Single Player Gaming in Leaked PlayStation Documents

Cheski

I basically gave up online gaming towards the end of the Xbox 360 and PS3 gen. After college, it was getting harder and harder to actually get friends together online at the same time. I have played my share of online solo or with people I meet online, but it is not quite the same as some of the squads we could get together.

Eventually it sort of fizzled out for me as my gaming time has become increasingly limited. It got to the point where it simply wasn't all that fun to play online anymore.

I have always preferred single player anyway, so I am glad Sony sees the value. I don't think single player was ever dying, I just think it has been eclipsed by multiplayer as gaming in general has grown exponentially.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Will Let You Turn Off Nudity

Cheski

There is no harm in the option I guess.

I am not up to speed with the streaming culture, but could streaming a game on Twitch (or some other platform) that includes nudity be a violation of their terms? I assume there are parental controls to limit what content kids see on streaming platforms based on the game's rating.

Re: Poll: Have You Experienced PS5 Coil Whine?

Cheski

I have it, my console is horizontal. It is intermittent, and will start randomly. I can be in what I feel like is a relatively low graphic intensive moment in a game and it will start. It will only last for a minute or two and not really be enough to be annoying or me to be worried though.

Re: More PS5 Consoles Will Be Available Before and After Christmas

Cheski

After much frustration last night across multiple retailers, I managed to get one from Playstation Direct. I had the site loaded at like 9:30 pm CT. I started seeing that people were having hour long waits to even get on the site, but I had the page loaded already. It did not have an option to add to cart until midnight, and then it didn't actually work for another half hour. It finally let me through though, and now it is preparing to ship.

I am glad this is finally over after all of this trying. I hope everyone else has some luck.

Re: PS5 Stock Will Be Available Online in the US on 12th November

Cheski

@JustEddie Yeah I have a feeling an overpriced Gamestop bundle is what I will end up resorting to. I guess I can just flip what I don't want from the bundle on eBay or something, but that is another hassle. If it ends up being the "Starter System Bundle" they currently have listed, I would be OK with that though.
