Disney just needs to look at what they did with Marvel and Kingdom Hearts to see what good relationships look like. To be fair though, I would not expect the CEO of Disney to say anything different. I expect that license to go elsewhere once their deal is done.
They released Battlefield V a few weeks after CoD and and one of the most critically acclaimed single player games of all time in RDR2. Both of those games came right after a few other huge games. Not to mention BF launched a few days before RDR online went live. I really do not think it would have done any better even if it was fully prepared to launch, not in that time slot.
The primary potential audience for this game was on overload at the time. What they should have done was release it in January or February instead of insisting on hitting the Holiday target. Looking at sales numbers for games like RE2 and Kingdom Hearts, I absolutely think it would have been better off outside of that crowded window.
They also need to really consider what they think constitutes successful sales numbers. If 7 million is a failure, there is something wrong on a fundamental level. Not everything can be FIFA Ultimate Team and make a billion dollars a year. My morbid curiosity has me interested in seeing how Anthem fairs, because that is absolutely going to fail to meet whatever EA would consider to be successful. I don't want it to be terrible or anything, but EA needs to start making some better decisions.
Honestly though, I think EA needs to cut their losses and just focus on what they do well. That being sports games and whatever mass appeal fair they are doing on PC at the moment.
I still want that Rocksteady TMNT game. That would have been great. Arkham style open world game in the art style of their appearance in Injustice 2? Yes please.
@MightyDemon82 You can play solo in the same way you can play any online multiplayer game solo. It requires you to be online, as well as a PS+/Xbox Live Gold subscription.
This has been a dumpster fire since it was announced. All I can say is, good luck BioWare. I hope one day soon you can get back to making some of the best single player RPGs out there and not have to worry about earning as much as FIFA Ultimate Team.
I agree that they need to take the approach they did with Marvel. I think the problem though, stems from "everything is canon" with Star Wars since Disney took over, while Marvel literally has infinite universes built in to their lore. I think if Disney works closely with developers, it would be fine though. I would like to see Sony, Ubisoft, and Square-Enix get the opportunity to work on Star Wars games.
I use PS Vue and love it. I rely on cable channels for sports, and the wife uses it for a bunch of channels (HG TV, Food Network, etc.). It is by far the best option for my needs as far as channel options and features go, compared to other live TV streaming services I’ve tried out. Just wish it offered NHL Network.
Kingdom Hearts 3, Crash Team Racing, and The Outer Worlds for me. I am curious about Anthem and Skull & Bones, but I want to wait and see how they handle solo gameplay.
I've been holding off on the DLC until it was all out. I want to do New Game+ and all three pieces of DLC back-to-back. I already have it purchased and ready to go.
Makes sense. And besides, gotta have something for the sequel.
Looking at another requested suit, I think their response to the black suit was a good approach as well. I agree that simply having it available would do both it and the symbiote story in general a disservice. If it does feature in the sequel, it will take center stage, and be Insomniac's take on it.
I still expect the next Dragon Age game to share more in common with Anthem than the rest of the series. I just don't see EA greenlighting a large single player game anymore.
It will be the Anthem equivalent of Dragon Age. Always online multiplayer, with a smug comment at the end about "no gameplay loot boxes, cosmetic items only", and someone in the audience at the Game Awards will cheer way too enthusiastically about it.
I enjoyed Final Fantasy XV for the most part, but I am absolutely tired of seeing it. Hopefully this means it won't be a decade before Final Fantasy XVI.
I am clearly in the minority, but I have found the shortcomings to be far more bothersome than many of the reviewers have (although many noted them). Particularly the clunky controls and constant downtime. I understand what the devs were going for, but it is not what I am typically looking for in a game. That said, the world is gorgeous, and the characters are excellent. In a year with amazing all around packages like God of War, those shortcomings just stand out more than I may have noticed a few years ago.
My username is cheski357. I use "cheski" most places because it was my nickname growing up. I have a very Polish last name, and most people struggle to pronounce it. The most difficult bit sounds like cheski, but is spelled like "chewski". After correcting people enough times, my friends started calling me cheski, and it sort of stuck. No one has called me that in years, but I still use it out of habit.
Not sure how I feel about certain employees working crazy long hours like this. For my personal experience, I am a salaried employee working in health and safety at a research University with a background in HAZMAT. Part of my job involves responding to emergencies and consulting with emergency personal regarding incidents in laboratories. I have been called at 2 am for an emergency, been involved with it until my typical work hours, and stayed the rest of the day. This is fairly abnormal though, and being on the receiving end of it, I am fine with it. Especially knowing that I can be helpful to firefighters. I do not get paid overtime for this, it is simply part of the job.
Digging a bit deeper, graduate students working on their PhD's are often in the lab for crazy hours to get their research done. They are doing their own original research (often with incredibly hazardous materials), and often their experiments require abnormal hours, long hours, etc. They have a professor they answer to, but it is not like they have a supervisor making them work for hours on end. Their driving force is earning their PhD and a spot in academia. That life does not include a 9-5 schedule, and is far more demanding than a full time job. Which is the reason why I sometimes get called at 2 am.
Before I got into the safety side of research, I worked in labs and had similar experiences. The work simply cannot get done if I left at a specific time every day and my mind left work mode. When I was not in the lab, I was working on data analysis, writing or editing, and reading technical journals in my field simply so I did not fall behind. There was rarely a time I was not "working" despite not being in the lab. Even now not being actively involved in lab research, I am still constantly involved outside of work, because I need to be. I am either continuing my education, being involved in professional societies, and maintaining my professional certifications. I am usually at the office (more likely doing a safety inspection or training somewhere on campus) ~50-60 hours a week, and easily add another 10 on top of this from home. I can't remember the last time I only worked 40 hours in a typical week, at least in my professional career.
At least in the STEM fields, this is common when it comes to research. There is always a race for results, a race to get published, a race to get invited to speak about your research. I am not saying it is right, just that this is how it is, and I have no idea how academia would fix this.
I guess the point I am trying to make is, looking at the game industry, this seems to be a systemic issue without a simple solution.
I finished this up last night. It is definitely the weakest of the three games, but had elements I enjoyed. I think it is time for the series to move on though.
It's a long game surrounded by other long games. I also think slipping back into annual releases is a bad idea. I imagine people who might be interested in this still have Origins fresh on their minds. I think alternating years with AC and another franchise will help. It shouldn't be all that surprising for Ubisoft. I'd like to get to it myself, I am just working on other games at the moment.
I figure console gens going forward will resemble the cellphone/tablet market. Eventually new apps stop working with previous models, but generally older apps are compatible with the new ones. The PS5 will absorb what Sony did with the PS4.
I can't stand anime either, but I am excited for this. I grew up in the 90s as well, and come from a big Disney family. I have tried playing the first game in the series on PS4, and could not stand it. It was just dated when I tried it. I did play 2.8 or whatever the heck it was called, and had a blast with the gameplay there. Assuming that was a preview for 3, I think I will have fun with it.
Yep, saw this yesterday during an odd day in the NFL. Not sure what to make of it, or who this appeals to. I assume someone much younger than myself lol. Maybe the Tide Pod generation.
I finished up Spider-Man, and started Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I will definitely get the Castlevania collection, and will get Assassin's Creed Odyssey probably on a Black Friday sale. I just don't have the time to juggle multiple big games at a time, so that would sit on the shelf until I catch up on some other games. I'm getting Mega Man 11, but I'll opt for the Switch version.
RDR2 is a definite day one buy, and I should be finished with Shadow of the Tomb Raider and a game or two on my backlog by then.
I don't particularly care for online multiplayer on any system, let alone cross-play. It's neat for those who enjoy it, but it doesn't offer me anything.
Neat, I am fine with the character design, it fits with the aesthetics Insomniac created for this game. I'll be getting the season pass, and I'll be curious to see what the other two pieces of DLC look like.
I used to love BioWare, but this isn't what I want from them. I enjoyed their games because of the stories, interesting characters, squadmate interactions, and gameplay that all came together for fun and memorable single player experiences. For me it boils down to the emphasis placed on multiplayer. I am not interested in playing online multiplayer anymore. My life just doesn't allow that sort of investment.
They can mention playing solo all they want, but this is simply designed as a multiplayer experience. The elements they are trying to stress in this trailer can only be so deep. If anything, it will be BioWare-lite and you can play multiplayer by yourself if you want.
At least they are taking the opportunity seriously. If they can do an Avengers game the way Insomniac is (seemingly) handling Spider-Man, I think it could be great.
If BioWare does do something with the ME trilogy, I hope they do proper remakes instead of simple ports. Gameplay in ME1 has not aged well. I love those games, but they would need updating. One thing Andromeda does have over the trilogy is a fun approach to combat.
