Re: PS5 Fave Expedition 33 Stripped of Indie Game Awards, But Not for the Reasons You May Think

The Indie Game Awards were always a joke but now they're admitting it.
Just look at some of the award categories, it's all performative. They've taken a hard stance on this, so much so that devs could get disqualified for disobeying it. But why? If they actually cared about rewarding the best indie game this year I doubt they would have made such a black and white rule for gen ai use when they're fully aware of how prevalent its use is. I don't think The Indie Game Awards standards have been out-paced by industry norms - I think this is all about virtue signalling.
They have since doubled-down and revoked another award because the devs admitted to working with ModRetro, the CEO of which is openly right-wing.
The question is not whether E33 should be disqualified or whether its use of AI is damning, but why such a hard anti-AI rule exists, regardless of whether Sandfall lied or not.

@PerpetualBoredom Except I'm right and game studios are companies which need to generate a profit to survive.
Look at what Sven said - "if somebody finds the golden egg and you’re not using it, you’re dead in this industry".
But takes like yours don't add anything to the conversation. Simply saying "cApItaLiSM bAd" is ridiculous and highlights the mindset of some of these devs, which is a non-capitalist utopia where they can sit around all day drawing furries and everything else will magically take care of itself. Its easy to critique capitalism when you can't put forward a better alternative.

@NieR_Dark Yeah I can appreciate that. My comment was not bait but when I see the same sort of people giving the same takes its hard not to assume there's a pattern.
Yeah maybe cushy isn't the best descriptor but the point is more about the value that they bring to the company they're at rather than how difficult their job is. It all seems like a knee-jerk reaction from these people and its as if they keep parroting the same reddit-brained narrative over and over again without nuance.

@PuppetMaster I think it might end up being a financial flop cos they've spent longer than they wanted developing it and might've put too many eggs in that basket.
But those other games you mentioned that flopped - I wouldn't say people didn't give them a fair chance, I would say they just weren't very good games, at least not the quality of game that gamers expect from Capcom (except for Godhand, thanks IGN) and therefore didn't sell well.

Just kill it. It's embarrassing at this point.
No one wants this type of bloated budget, live service slop.
Restructure your management, get rid of the suits, Karens and middle managers and realise that you can't simply throw money at projects and have them succeed if you don't have the talent onboard or have passionless moneymen dictating what you make.
