Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, which is essentially an indie take on The Elder Scrolls franchise, has gone down as a considerable success for developer Questline, as it's now confirmed the RPG has sold over one million copies.
In a Steam community post, the studio thanked those who have bought the game and supported it since its May 2025 release. "As always, thank you so much for all the love and support throughout this journey! After all, it's literally you who made this achievement come to life!"

A commemorative video to mark the sales milestone has been released, as seen below:
For anyone who's interested in the game but yet to pick it up, it's currently on sale on the PS Store until 5th February for £25.89 / $31.49, which is a 30% price drop. Here's the overall setup:
Embark on a grim journey throughout Avalon, an immersive world in which you shape your destiny through the choices you make and who you choose to become. With quests to undertake, characters to meet and mysteries to unfold around every corner, you'll carve your own path and leave your own mark on these sinister lands, torn from the fore-dwellers by King Arthur’s hands.
While we didn't review the game, it currently has an overall Metacritic rating of 80 for the PC version, and it's since been expanded after release with a DLC drop.

Really liked the look of this game before it released, but I simply had too much to play that I had already bought, and so did not pick it up until now. Really pleased that is has done well...
This game appeals to me on so many levels. If my backlog wasn’t so un-manageable… and the game wasn’t so buggy, I’d have played it by now. The fact that it was recently patched and now runs great on console does take away my one issue… now back to the backlog to try and remove the other.
There’s also a demo on PSN so you can try it before you buy it. I’ve downloaded it just haven’t played it yet. Looks great
Its a superb game looks great on the pro , fantastic music with some really great side quests , it really irks me that avowed gets more press and this game blows it out of the water , for £25 just buy it
I practically live and breathe games, but somehow this one completely slipped under my radar!
I'm totally up for a game of this type and at £25 I'm definitely going to jump in!
Thanks for the article Liam, I might never have seen this without 👍
**Update. Eurogames.com has really good deals on PSN credit atm - save about %16 even on lower top ups. This game is now downloading for about £21... look forwards to playing it.
I'm defo interested, hadn't heard much about it, i'll bang it on the wishlist and check it out in the near future. I don't really want to start another RPG until i'm done with Mandragora Whispers of the Witch Tree (great game) which i'm not sure I will actually complete yet tbh. Kinda hard and I don't use guides but this sounds like a great game.
Now this looks way more appealing then Avowed to me anyway.
Good AAs are the future. Hope we get them a lot in different genres too. While I love my blockbuster as much as the next guy, there is apparently something unsustainable there and they need to figure it out.
I tried it. But the 3rd person mode was too janky for me to enjoy it. Hadn’t heard a thing about it so wasn’t sure how successful it had been.
I was interested in the original Boardgame for this as the theme looked of grim dark arthurian legends is great and the minis looked pretty decent also, but it was bloody expensive as all Boardgames are now. Never really followed the game much but may check it out at some point if it looks promising.
@AhmadSumadi same here. I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't. Too janky and I wasn't hooked at all. I might give the demo another shoot
@Hesse is it only available in certain regions maybe? Can't find the demo for this. Neither on the product page nor the demo section.
Really really good game, apart from it being so bloody buggy.
Crashes every 20 min or so. I had to stop playing it (about nov last Yr)
Has it been fixed since?
Never heard of this before. Would like a decent RPG to sink my teeth into but I’ve started the Witcher 3. Maybe down the line I’ll grab this.
@dschons Maybe. I live in the USA if that helps
I played the demo on launch. I couldn't play it more than 30 minutes. For me it felt too janky, too clunky. Is it in a better state now?
I wanted to like this one but the game never clicked with me. Took dark I think.
I fell off it part way through the second act. Not a bad effort. Really strong writing and an interesting world but very very unpolished. I bet in 5 years time we'll all be talking about whatever this studio does next though.
@Titntin have to let me know what you think its one of my favourite games of last year , I was banging on about it for months in various comment sections 😂
@AhmadSumadi yeah the 3rd person is dire, and apparently was just slapped on late in game because of fan feedback , it needs work
@Xodan much better state, with some great graphical options you only usually find, in pc games
This one is absolutely on my radar. Had it on my wishlist since I first heard of it. I'll get to it at some point.
Played the demo then ordered the ‘deluxe’ edition of the game. Loved it. Nice story, setting, soundtrack. Felt old school rpg to me. Will play the DLC when I’ve done with Clair 33 and Baldurs Gate 3.
Err, might be waiting a while ha
I love it as well. It's got a fair amount of jank that you'd expect from an Elder Scrolls style game, but the design and world have pulled me through it. And once I'm finished with the main story I will be getting the DLC.
Methinks I’ll give this another try. I played the demo and wasn’t impressed, but in all honesty I didn’t give it a lot of time. Maybe it’s worth a second chance
It's on my wishlist. I know I'll love it when I play it. I knew the game was fairly popular already but I'm glad to hear the game is a financial success as well!
The game is food, maybe great but runs like dogshit on the PS5 sadly.
Incredible game. Loved every bit of it. Definitely a mess on Ps5 but they eventually got it to run better. Sadly I had already almost finished it by then, however it was that good that I wanted to see it through despite some bugs and crashes.
I just picked it up a couple days ago. I usually wait for a sale but I was itching for a good Skyrim like game and this doesn't disappoint. The opening song is amazing. Im only 5 hours in, so far very fun
@nicc83 they updated it in dec. I've played about 5 hours and no crashes, still has a bit of jank, but nothing noteworthy.
Runs like absolute garbage, even on a Pro, and crashes regularly.
Tried the beta (or was it just a demo) of this way back, and though it was pretty good.
If you like open world RPG's, you owe it to yourself to play this game! It absolutely has a bit of that indie "jank" but once you get passed that it is INCREDIBLE. Can't wait for the studios next game
@lazarus11 Yes! I feel like they should I’ve never added it if that’s how bad it’s gonna be.
Performance on Ps5 Pro (as of 2 weeks ago) was not great. Screen tearing, jerky framerate that wasn't noticeable in the demo. Video settings seem straight from the PC version compared to in demo which gave you a framerate to target. Disappointed as was quite enjoying it
I guess that makes me 1 in a million! This game was a lot of fun. Janky, but made with tlc. I have it on pc, and sounds like I made the right call if it has so many issues on console. I recommend
This game is awesome. Rough around the edges, sure. But it's got a lot going for it. Any Skyrim fans looking for something darker in tone would be well-served. Also, play in 1st-person. 3rd-person mode was added later but still doesn't feel right
@lazarus11 Well I have to say after a few hours, this is really excellent, Im absolutely absorbed and hooked and I can see why you like it so much. The art direction and visual style is really lovely, the story is intriguing and well acted and Im enjoying it all enormously. Delighted 👍
It's ok. Like a 6 or 7 out of 10
Was excited for this one, but the demo absolutely fell flat for me and looked and played like a PS3/360 era title.
I liked the demo and it's scratching that Oblivion/Skyrim itch. It's not a pretty as the Oblivion remake, but it's fine for what it is, and hey, for £25, I'm rolling the dice.
@Dogbreath it doesnt
@Titntin marvelous news, I really don't think it gets the attention it deserves , the introduction of Arthur with the music, and the chanting is superb
@Panic_Attache have you tried changing the graphic settings , lowered the resolution , vegetation etc , also do you have a VRR enabled display, as I have not experienced any of the issues you mentioned since the latest patch
@lazarus11 Yes mate the audio in particular is excellent. I cant wait till the end of the day to go back and experience more! 😁
@lazarus11 as you have already seen, other people are experiencing the exact same problems with the PlayStation version, and that’s just on here, let alone all the other threads and performance analysis you can find online.
As I recall from when I was researching it at the time, the game is very much designed from the ground up for PC and not fully designed oroptimised for a PlayStation.
Hence why it runs so badly and needs a massive ground up optimisation. I believe there was some talk of that happening, but I always take with a huge pinch of salt any such rumours I hear from the community or promises from developers.
@Dogbreath cant really judge other peoples experiences only my own , if you change various graphical settings you can get it to run at 60fps on the pro with a VRR display , I cant say what it runs like on the standard ps5 without VRR , I did have some screen tearing and graphical anomalies at launch but it is much improved since the latest patch and the new dlc looks superb , always makes me chuckle, when people complain about some pop in textures, or off lip syncing in games and then praise games like vampire saviours.
@Panic_Attache, @Dogbreath, it's worth checking if you have vsync on (in the graphics settings), I've got the feeling it was on by default in the demo, but off in the full game. I'm using a Pro on a LG C5 (with VRR) and it's really solid with vsync on (pretty jerky without). Worth a shot.
Edit: I turned Vignette off too and the TV's game optimiser is telling me I'm getting a solid 59fps with no frame drops (all the other settings, I left as default)
@lazarus11 LG C3 with VRR and all the trimmings. Have changed resolutions in game, nothing changes on screen. Graphics settings in demo are different to those in the full game, and i definitely wouldn't have bought it if I'd encountered half the issues present in the full game. Thanks for your suggestions and I'll give them all a go again this weekend
@DrVenture69 I'll take a look but pretty sure I switched it on/off and changed resolutions to no noticeable effect. Thanks for your suggestions
@Panic_Attache it is nothing wrong with your configuration or setup.
There are plenty of videos on Youtube, of the latest patch with frame rate graphs clear as day. It's irrefutable. There is no argument, there is no debate, there is no difference of opinion to be had. It is a fact.
It's just plain awful and V-Sync won't fix it.
V-Sync only works if the game can hit the same refresh (or divisible refresh) of your TV and maintain it 100% bullet proof. It's actually worse if the game can't, as you get massive v-sync stutter.
Where as no v-sync gives you less pronounced stutter but with screen tearing.
This game is really PC-only (think it's on GF Now too though), but isn't viable on console unless one is extremely tolerant of stutter-fests.
@Hesse I live in the US as well
https://youtu.be/7qUDC8icX5Y?si=peQfjhTzHEa7XnHF here's a video with the latest patch goes through most settings on the pro
@DrVenture69 yeah it looks and plays well for me to i really don't know what some others are on about, probably best to try the demo with the latest patch
@lazarus11 The demo isn't on the same patch and performance is fine, which is ultimately misleading. It is only when I got out in the open world proper that the issues appeared.
@Panic_Attache erm ok
@Dogbreath what nonsense
Played the demo, pretty nice thing that allows to play around first hour or so. Then decided to just buy it. It has huge Skyrim vibe but more kind of a dark fantasy setting. Music is awesome. Atmosphere is awesome. Strong 7/10 at least. They should fix some issues in the future too.
Highly recommend it, it’s quite fresh game on the market full of similar games.
I'd never heard of this game before this article, but 'skyrim-like' was enough to tempt me and then the price being less than £30 sealed the deal.
Loving what I've played so far! more Oblivion than Skyrim imo but that might be mostly the setting, with a bit of an elden ring vibe too.
