There's no question that Activision struck nostalgic gold with its Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remakes. The N. Sane Trilogy, Reignited Trilogy, and the recent Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled have all been big sellers, so it makes total sense that the publisher will be chasing more retro-tinged games later down the line, as well as potentially making all new content for the pair of platforming heroes.
In a recent earnings call, Activision president Rob Kostich had high praise for the remakes, citing a "fantastic" response from players and a "big impact on bottom line". He says there's a big opportunity to "think about totally new content within these IPs", implying the publisher is gearing up for all-new Crash and Spyro adventures.
Kostich also states the company's intent to produce remasters of its other dormant properties. There's no hint as to what these might be.
It's all pretty obvious stuff, we suppose, but it's good to know this won't be the last we see of the bandicoot and the dragon. Do you want Activision to double down on Crash, Spyro, and other retro remakes? What other IPs would you want to see revived? Let us know in the comments below.

Not much I'd like to see from Activision at all. They're only interested because the keen retro audience will lap it up and give them a larger audience to throw MTX at.
I wouldn't mind new games for Crash and Spyro, but Activision should be careful with the timing of these releases. They remade 3 games for each of these properties already; I actually heard a friend recently say he had enough of Spyro for a long time after obtaining the Platinum trophy for the trilogy.
You know, it's Activision after all. They pass me this feeling of "it either sells zillion dollars or the IP is dead".
They should've been working on a new Crash game since N.Sane Trilogy was released.
Just make a new simple Crash-style linear platformer and people will love it. I'm baffled how it's taken almost 20 years to do that but here we are
I'd be down for new single player adventures for both characters, if they skip micro-transactions at release and after then I'll buy. Otherwise, I have no interest in supporting that model.
I'd like Activision to give Crash and Spyro back to Sony, and then piss off forever.
Can they look to give the IPs to someone else please.
What retro licences do they own? I can think of 50 retro games easy that I'd want a remake of but none are from Activision. As for new Crash I'm not sure I'd bother, Nintendo have spent a long time perfecting Mario but Crash has never even caught up to Mario 64 and who are they going to find who have even a little experience in making a new 3D platformer instead of copying people's work from 20 years ago?
@carlos82 was going to ask the same. I'm not sure what IP's Activision own, but I'm sure beyond Crash and Spyro there aren't that many. I'd love to see a new game in both series, but without Naughty Dog doing them I'm afraid I would be shocked if they are anything more the mediocre.
@carlos82 Pitfall.
Honestly, I'd be down for a Spyro game but I just know abilities for Soarx would cost gems which you could buy.
Hell a remake of Hero's Tail would do just that. Gems are used as currency and are infinite. Cha ching
Skylanders was fun
People talking like Activision dropped the ball with the Spyro and Crash remasters. In fairness to Activision, they were solid efforts, and decent value to boot.
I'd happily play brand new Crash and Spyro games. However, I've learnt my lesson from the addition of microtransactions in Crash Team Racing to wait a while after release before buying their games.
so how are they going to add micro-transactions to all those old IP's?
@BorderlineJon @Knuckles-Fajita that's the problem with Activision you just can't trust them
Having just finished the Spyro trilogy, i can officially say im done with Spyro. The first game was great, but it was diminishing returns from there on out
@Rob_230 they were just straight remakes of the originals, though. It’s not like Activision tried something and failed. Of course, I agree history dictates that Activision wouldn’t be able to put out a very good original Spyro game, either. Still, you never know! They’ve released one or two excellent games this gen (Sekiro and Transformers)
after researching activision's past work (since none stood out), there is one IP i can really see them focusing on... that is the tenchu series. remaking the two entries from the ps1 might be worth doing? also, remaking the original tony hawk trilogy might garner fanfare from some, although the recent tony hawk game was abysmal and likely destroyed that possibility. a few other IP to consider: vigilante8 series (not sure how viable that would be), the lost kingdoms (niche fromsoftware series on the gamecube), the two spiderman games from the ps1 (rights would be a pain i assume) and the two x-men mutant aceademy games from the ps1 (again, rights would be a nightmare but not impossible). other than those, activision's legacy titles are very lackluster indeed and would not warrant remakes.
Not sure I'd trust them after what they pulled with CTR.
I have just seen that Activision have made $800m in 3 months on MTX. If you are making that much, then you don't need to make many 'new' games - just the game(s) that are Annual and bulk up their releases with remasters/remakes loaded with MTX opportunities...
The Bandicoot's recent trilogy collection seems to have sold quite well, so not developing a new platformer of some sort seems like it's leaving money on the table.
Maybe it could be some sort of F2P game where the currency is Crash's ability to jump. You could buy jumps in packs of ten for $0.99.
I Wish We Had Gotten a Jak And Daxter And Sly Cooper Collection In The same Vain As These Games Sony Should Really Get On That breathe New life into these franchise's
@RBMango they were never Sony's, they were always Universal's until they shipped them off
Played both Crash and Spyro remasters. That's enough of those two. Get the rights to Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper and we'll talk.
More retro remakes sounds good. I don't know which ips Activision owns though. Hopefully other publishers consider this as well.
I would honestly be ecstatic if they ever decided to remake the old croc games! Those were so underrated
the only thing I want is a crash bash wrath of cortex and twinsanity remake
@Porco - Fromsoftware own the Tenchu IP not Activision, with the success of Sekiro I could see them publishing though if From resurrect the series.
I Would like to see a remake of Rayman games like crash and spyro
@Shigurui activision published the first 3 tenchu games... they are certainly one of the legitimate rights holders unless there is information i am not aware of.
@RedMan33 @RBMango Sony never owned them, Universal owned the rights and Activision got the rights when Vivendi Universal (their game studio) merged with Activision. Funny enough the characters were created by Naughty Dog and Insomniac for Universal.
@kyleforrester87 can i ask u a question?
@Tasuki I know that's pretty much what I said 😅
@kyleforrester87 o no, i dont blame Acti or Toys for Bob. They worked with what they had. The remaster is stunning. I just though Insomniac dropped the ball adding in more and more ridiculous mini games and losing sight of what made the first spyro great. Id much rather the pure platforming from game 1 than the skateboarding nonsense from the 3rd for example
@ellsworth004 you just did!
@Porco - Activision sold the Tenchu IP to Fromsoft years ago. Sony published the first 3 Crash games, doesn't mean they still hold any rights to the franchise.
The new Crash level they did was cool but it was to hard tho :-/ I gave up half way + The new CTR track was cool to I only really want 'Crash Bash' really then I would be HAPPY
I'd pay to play Gun and Tenchu remasters with today's graphical abilities.
Yeah with loot boxes and MTs added a few months after
@RBMango Ahmen brother Ahmen one of the biggest mistakes Sony did from the PS1 was to not save characters as icons for PlayStation
As someone who enjoyed the Crash Bandicoot on the Switch and hopefully get Spyro too. I look forward of Activision do more of those type of games.
Yep, I can see Pitfall now...buy super jump shoes from the jungle shop to get past the crocodiles! Or not enough in-game gold & constantly running out of torches? Buy our Pitfall Myan gold bars pack with night vision goggles for $15!!
Thank gods they can't remaster C64 Ghostbusters...Bobby Kotick would insist on linking your real life bank account at the start & lend you activision $$ to pay back your loan by game's end!!
@RBMango Sony never owned them, they were always owned by Universal Interactive, Sony just published the games.
I wouldn't mind a proper Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake (not like the HD remaster or THPS5).
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4 remade from the ground up would be awesome. They were the peak of the series.
@Nakatomi_Uk They Still Have Tomba Sir Dan And The Ape Escape Guys Sony Just has to use Them Thats Why i Hope The Medievil Remake Does Well
Looking on the Activision games wiki, I'm not really sure which of these properties they even have the rights to anymore, but there's some pretty cool retro stuff on there...:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Activision_video_games
All for more Crash and Spyro, but some of these could be cool.
I'm all for it. It's been a while since a new Spyro title came out that felt traditional and was actually good.
@Porco Nope, it was very complicated with Tenchu IP. First two games were (still are??) owned by Sony... Music Japan, then IP was sold to Activision (but don't know if it contained first two games) with third game and From Software was only publisher (not owner) in Japan. And then something has happened and From owned the franchise in 2007 and started developing it themselves. Good material for a story I think.
After adding MTX to Crash Team Racing I will NEVER ever ever ever buy another product touched by Activision. You couldn't pay me to even play any of their games.
Sekiro doesn't count because Activision doesn't own that game, they only have publishing rights in the west. I wish I would've chosen to import Sekiro just to avoid having Activision's name on case and disc, that's how much I despise Activision.
@Porco https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dualshockers.com/activision-loses-trademark-relating-to-tenchu-franchise/amp/
@Flaming_Kaiser Trade mark doesn't mean an ownership of IP or a game. It's a temporary thing for selling products - even You can 'own' a trade mark for Tenchu if you licence if from it' IP holder.
@snakemake The first line Activision lost the franchise. 😃 👍
@Flaming_Kaiser The thing is journalists don't know anything about intelectual property rights and as so often (unconciously) mislead people. Activision lost the core rights to Tenchu, but it was years before 2015 and we can't tell exactly when, because private agreements are confidential.
I'd love a remake of Metal Arms:A Glitch In The System, i loved that game so much and it was always meant to be a trilogy of games, it is definitely owned by Microsoft as they bought Swinging Ape Studios that made it.
@Steel76 that would be cool! Throw in Seaquest, Enduro, Kaboom, Toy Bizarre, Dreadnaught Factor, Crackpots, Stampede etc lol 😂
@snakemake Still hoping they wont touch it. How are they going too monetize that. 50 cents for a throwing star.
