Re: Sony Considered Xbox Series S-Style PS5, Doesn't Think Lower Spec Models Have Had Success

Barryburton97

As an offering straight to the budget, digital only /Game Pass market, Series S makes a lot of sense and will sell plenty. 50%+ of the gaming public won't notice the difference between S and X anyway. They just want FIFA, CoD, GTA Online, Fortnite and Lego games.

Really, Xbox are just kicking off the generation with a vanilla and Pro version, rather than launching it mid-gen.

Will it mean the absolute cream of the gaming crop ends up on PS5 in the opening years ? I hope so, but that might not be as profitable for Sony overall.

Re: The Dream Is Dead: PS5 Will Not Play PS3, PS2, or PS1 Games

Barryburton97

PS3 still not practical I guess (while keeping the PS5 console cost down) and no profit in getting PS1+2 to work well and supporting them. I do reckon they could patch in some kind of software emulator though. Basic smartphones can run PS1 for heaven's sake.

I'll keep my (refurbished) Fat PS3 for 1, 2, 3 anyway

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PlayStation at Launch 25 Years Ago?

Barryburton97

@Mostik Daytona USA on the Saturn was a joy to play, it just had to make sacrifices in the graphics. Daytona's all about the music anyway!
NeoGeo was a mystical creature only talked about in hushed tones on the playground. They cost the equivalent of something like £1k with games about £300 in today's money. No wonder they were so special and rare.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PlayStation at Launch 25 Years Ago?

Barryburton97

@Mostik true, arcade ports of current titles generally disappointed until the mid 90s.

The Saturn also had a few splendid arcade ports around the same time as Tekken et al came to PS1.

Unless you count the NeoGeo, which had arcade perfect titles galore since the early 90s.. (as it was basically an arcade machine...)

Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility: Can You Play PS4 Games on PlayStation 5?

Barryburton97

BC beyond PS4 won't happen, there's little to no money in it for Sony, and it would add to the manufacturing cost and ticket price. PS4 BC is vital for getting people to move over, but let's be honest, 98% of people wouldn't use PS1-3 BC anyway.

I'm happy with my launch PS3 that has BC with the previous 2 gens.

I'd like them to add lots more streamable PS1-3 back catalogue to PS Now, though.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Outsells the Entire UK Top 10 Combined in June

Barryburton97

(mild spoiler below)

Whether the reviews were paid off or not, they were bang on the money regardless. This is a masterpiece of video gaming and story telling. There are some very upsetting events and the player is forced to play as an initially hated character for a long time. Despite, or because of that, it works and reaches new heights for video gaming as an immersive story telling medium.

It's also simply an excellent adventure game with some stunning scenary and awesome battles vs. the infected.

Re: Xbox Boss Believes Microsoft Is in Very Good Position, Will Be Able to Demonstrate Hardware Advantages Over PS5

Barryburton97

They're just cooking up a confusing mess that the masses won't understand. It's really powerful, but for the first third of its life will only play the same games as the 2013 Xbox One. It has 'all the best games' , except all the exclusive hits on PS5 and Switch. It's the 4th Xbox generation yet its name is a word salad with no obvious link to previous models. It sounds like some weird special edition "the Series X, now in Black".

I've no doubt it'll be a powerful slick device, but as PS4 and Switch have shown, a strong identity in the market, quality exclusives and a clear target audience are the drivers of success.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Wants to See 15 Hour AAA Titles Return

Barryburton97

I get his point, but I'm not sure they've really gone away.

That's pretty much what the smash hits Uncharted 4 and Resident Evil 2 remake were, so there's clearly still a market for them.
I'd also put the likes of Control and Doom Eternal into that category, ignoring the optional side missions & collectibles.

I definitely prefer the above to the beautifully made, but utterly bloated AC Odyssey for example.

Re: The Hardest PS4 Platinum Trophies

Barryburton97

@Old-Red I agree the Gold rush trophy ruins the fun of the missions, and the bear one is just stupid. I got all the other single player ones but gave up there. Shame, as the challenge and animal studying ones were mostly a great experience.

I'd have preferred the Platinum to be single player only as well, or at least just a few easy token online ones.

Re: The Hardest PS4 Platinum Trophies

Barryburton97

@Shepherd_Tallon I'm stuck on that Hunk level too. Done every other trophy in the game without trouble, but just can't complete that one. Have tried the speedruns and dodging, tried going all out combat, still die towards the end. There's something about how he moves that just doesn't mesh with me. Many more hours of practice needed I suppose.

Re: Rumour: Second June 2020 PS Plus PS4 Game Leaked Early

Barryburton97

I'm not disputing the quality of those two games, but they are very similar, like last month. Would be nice to mix things up a bit each month.
Also they really need to avoid putting EA Access games on PS Plus, in my opinion. It devalues both of the subscriptions to an extent. Old EA games are also generally widely played and dirt cheap in sales already.
Oh well.
