Physical games should be in durable, but easily recyclable packaging should disposal be required. See the state of 90s cardboard games packaging for the reason why. The impact of physical games will naturally diminish as digital takes over, anyway.
A decent, basic FPS with light RPG elements.
It's like Fallout 4, with about 75% of the RPG complexity removed, in the Terminator universe. I quite enjoyed it, actually the best bit of Terminator story since T2 Judgment Day.
It's short and easy, but they got the music, enemies and weaponry just right.
Expecting one or likely two current or recent PS Now titles. Appears to be the method they follow now, and must be related to Sony holding digital rental licenses for those titles.
I'm certainly intrigued as I enjoyed what I played of the beautiful Odin Sphere, and this looks interesting and similarly stunning. I think the problem I and millions of other keen Western gamers have is that it is an extremely niche type of game, so we're hesitant to spend RRP-type money on it, not least when most of our backlogs are absolutely ridiculous as it's the end of the generation.
@Mysterio Shadow of the Tomb Raider has much less combat and much more exploration and puzzling than the other two in the recent trilogy. It feels much more like an old school TR game in that sense. Other than the forgettable story, it's really good.
@DrClayman true about Skyrim. But if anything, games should be at their best at the end of the gen, given the huge amount of accumulated experience. And with 7+ years of development this game really should be getting the basics right at launch. Anyway, I suspect it'll be largely fixed and eventually go down as an all time classic. Time will tell.
Wish I had some videos of this type from my childhood. Would pay a fortune for footage of my mates and me playing a Sensible Soccer tournament on the Mega Drive.
I add everything to the library, probably end up properly playing about 2-3 of them a year. I'm most thankful for the family games it's given, like Overcooked and Sonic. Had a few joyful sessions with the kids on games I wouldn't have bought otherwise.
@get2sammyb great point. It's top value for a teenager who can get Plus for Xmas then a guaranteed 24+ titles in the coming year for <£50. Would've loved that back in the days of £39.99 to buy (the awesome) Streets of Rage.
There's been 28 games with PS Plus in 2020, certainly plenty (actually 32 if you consider two are trilogies). So if you only use Plus for your games, that's a very decent return for your subscription, even at the full price of £50. That said, while I mainly use Plus for the online backup and occasional online multiplayer, as a subscriber to Now and EA Play, I've not had an especially great year of Plus games for various reasons. Here they are listed out, highlighting duplications:
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection - PS Now PS3
Goat Simulator
BioShock: The Collection-- PS Now PS3
The Sims 4
Firewall Zero Hour
Shadow of the Colossus - PS Now PS3
Sonic Forces
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
DiRT Rally 2.0
Cities Skylines
Farming Simulator 19
Call of Duty: WWII
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - EA Play
Rise of the Tomb Raider
NBA 2K20
Erica
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Fall Guys
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds - PS Now
Street Fighter V- PS Now
Need for Speed: Payback - EA Play
Vampyr - PS Now
Bugsnax (PS5)
Hollow Knight-- PS Now
Middle-earth: Shadow of War - PS Now
Worms Rumble
Just Cause 4 - Left PS Now in October 20
Rocket Arena - EA Play
So that's 5 on Now at the time of release to Plus, but also:
1 that had only just left Now in Just Cause)
3 (or 7) that have PS3 versions on PS Now.
3 that are also on EA Play
So there were actually 12/28 that weren't fresh to me as a subscriber to all 3 available services. (not counting about 5 I already owned, but that's my own fault!). The period Sept to Nov was particularly bad for the duplication as well.
Sony won't ever please everyone with the Plus games, but I do think they should be more careful to avoid duplication between services if they want to maximise retention and take up.
@LiamCroft it is an annoyance when games on PS Now pop up on PS Plus. If you're looking forward to a couple of new games, then they give you stuff you've already got in Now (or EA Play!) , it's a bit disappointing. We'll all survive though. Forum comments always sound more dramatic than they'd be in real life.
To my mind, the bigger problem that Sony have with Now is that a massive chunk of the customer base still think it is a streaming-only service. That feels worth an article and poll to gauge awareness, maybe?
Edit: see the comment right below this one for evidence!
@Wormold Comparing the streamed PS3 games to PS5 @60fps+, 4k is never going to be a fair comparison, streamed or otherwise. Yes they'll look very dated.
(almost?) All PS4 games are downloadable on PS Now so the requirement to stream isn't an issue for the PS4 titles.
@Muttt if you're talking two digital versions then I don't know. But the disc Complete Edition version does not work with the digital Complete edition. So, I'd not be confident that the standard disc version saves are compatible with any digital version.
@Kyevo8814 Darksiders and Broforce were on Plus but Wreckfest hasn't been. A rare case of a game I'd like to play and don't own appearing on Plus or Now, in fact!
The constant duplication between the two services is poor though, I agree.
@pharos_haven I hadn't played the first two and enjoyed Exodus just fine. There is a very short story recap at the start anyway. I suspect there are characters and references to the first two that I missed but I still followed the story and enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed my playthrough on the PS4 Pro. So atmospheric, and other than ridiculous load times it performed fine. The graphics are already great, especially within eerily lit enclosed spaces, so it'll be incredible on next gen consoles.
It needs a fix for the colour, lighting and contrast settings. I just couldn't get it looking right on my Pro. My TV isn't HDR but apparently those settings are the source of the troubles for many others
In lieu of a PS5 and/or Miles Morales I decided to play City that Never Sleeps last week on my trusty Pro . Is it me or have the PS4 Pro loading times dropped since last year? It's really quick to get from the title screen to the action, and I'm fairly sure the subway rides are shorter.
The remote-bricking solution would indeed stop someone else using it and is a good idea in theory. But it wouldn't stop thieves, they'd just sell it on and let the over-paying end customer suffer. Then delete their eBay account.
Just flogged my PS4 copy to CEX for a tiny loss of £5. It's just too ropey to be enjoyable atm, even on the Pro.
A shame, as the story was starting to get interesting.
But the colour, lighting and overall visuals were infuriatingly bad. Characters faces went from red to grey to orange between scenes. Out of cutscenes, the characters have PS3 level graphics. Scenery popping in. Water like something on the PS3. The landscape just the wrong colour, sometimes looking almost cel shaded.
How they managed such a technical downgrade from the gorgeous (if boring) Odyssey I cannot understand.
I tried all sorts of settings on the console and within game and couldn't get it settled at all.
@LiamCroft it was totally possible to avoid it, agreed. But the fact they knew their game was too long and decided to charge extra to relieve the grind was sheer cheek. It should've just been built into the Easy difficulty setting or something.
@JohnKarnes PS4 titles and cross gen games are likely to be the norm for quite a while until a backlog of PS5 exclusives builds up. Not necessarily bad.
Seriously what's the deal with putting PS Now /EA Play games on Plus every single month?
They're cannibalising the value of each badly.
I already have those subs so there's nothing new here, has happened several times this year already.
Push Square surely there's an article to be made on this subject?

Re: There's Recurring Chatter of an Extended Death Stranding for PS5, PS4
I'd be delighted, especially if it picks up from the existing game. (rather than start from scratch.)
V possibly my game of the generation.

Re: Reminder: You Can Claim PS5 PS Plus Games Even If You Don't Have the Console Yet
Since when is 2-3 games a "handful"?(apols to anyone with 3 fingers)
But anyway, it's surprising how many people don't know this is possible, so it's worth an article.
Re: Control Fans Bemused by Free PS Plus Version for PS5, PS4
@Mpquikster yes it's an awful Americanism. Can't they just say "on the same day"?
Re: Control Fans Bemused by Free PS Plus Version for PS5, PS4
While I deeply appreciate the use of "brouhaha" I do wish the absolute gibberish that is "day and date" could be phased out immediately

Expecting one or likely two current or recent PS Now titles. Appears to be the method they follow now, and must be related to Sony holding digital rental licenses for those titles.
Re: Which Resident Evil Village Bundle Are You Buyin'?
@Ear_wiG agreed. I'd love a special edition but have no interest in or space for a £150 plastic statue .
I'd also buy the hell out of a steelbook with RE 7 and 8 bundled.
Will be waiting for a sale or the Gold edition most likely.

Re: Soapbox: A Resident Evil Outbreak Reboot Makes Far Too Much Sense
For me Resi games are supposed to be single player, lonely, creepy, gorey and slightly silly survival experiences.
I've never got into the more action focused or multiplayer games.
That said, no doubt Outbreak would be a good target for a remake for fans of that type of game.
Re: Feature: Push Square Readers' Top 10 PS4 First-Party Exclusives of the Generation
@fR_eeBritney some but not all can, yes.
Re: Poll: What Was the Best PS4 First-Party Exclusive of the Generation?
Shame Death Stranding and HZD got PC releases in a sense, as they'd have been my No. 1 & 2. It's good to share the quality around though.
But wow, what a generation.

@Envy I thought I was the only person who liked the recent TRs more than Uncharted!
Re: PS Plus January 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced
Shame about the ongoing overlap with PS Now, but otherwise these are very good Plus games. Much better than December.
PS4 Maneater would've been nice too, oh well.

Nier Automata seems like a good prediction given the prequel (?) coming out soon

@Kidfunkadelic83 it's 6pm on launch day, most of us havent had time yet mate

Preordered and paid over a year ago. But wouldn't be buying now if I hadn't. Would be waiting for a sale probably, so much backlog to play.
