Re: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Sells Over 300,000 Copies, Deserves a Lot More

I'm certainly intrigued as I enjoyed what I played of the beautiful Odin Sphere, and this looks interesting and similarly stunning. I think the problem I and millions of other keen Western gamers have is that it is an extremely niche type of game, so we're hesitant to spend RRP-type money on it, not least when most of our backlogs are absolutely ridiculous as it's the end of the generation.

Re: PS Plus January 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced

@Mysterio Shadow of the Tomb Raider has much less combat and much more exploration and puzzling than the other two in the recent trilogy. It feels much more like an old school TR game in that sense. Other than the forgettable story, it's really good.

Re: Poll: Is Cyberpunk 2077's Poor PS4 Performance Acceptable?

Barryburton97

@DrClayman true about Skyrim. But if anything, games should be at their best at the end of the gen, given the huge amount of accumulated experience. And with 7+ years of development this game really should be getting the basics right at launch.
Anyway, I suspect it'll be largely fixed and eventually go down as an all time classic.
Time will tell.

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Play Your PS Plus Games?

Barryburton97

I add everything to the library, probably end up properly playing about 2-3 of them a year.
I'm most thankful for the family games it's given, like Overcooked and Sonic. Had a few joyful sessions with the kids on games I wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Re: PS Plus, PS Now Members Frustrated by Duplicate PS4 Games

Barryburton97

There's been 28 games with PS Plus in 2020, certainly plenty (actually 32 if you consider two are trilogies). So if you only use Plus for your games, that's a very decent return for your subscription, even at the full price of £50. That said, while I mainly use Plus for the online backup and occasional online multiplayer, as a subscriber to Now and EA Play, I've not had an especially great year of Plus games for various reasons. Here they are listed out, highlighting duplications:

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection - PS Now PS3
Goat Simulator
BioShock: The Collection-- PS Now PS3
The Sims 4
Firewall Zero Hour
Shadow of the Colossus - PS Now PS3
Sonic Forces
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
DiRT Rally 2.0
Cities Skylines
Farming Simulator 19
Call of Duty: WWII
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - EA Play
Rise of the Tomb Raider
NBA 2K20
Erica
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Fall Guys
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds - PS Now
Street Fighter V- PS Now
Need for Speed: Payback - EA Play
Vampyr - PS Now
Bugsnax (PS5)
Hollow Knight-- PS Now
Middle-earth: Shadow of War - PS Now
Worms Rumble
Just Cause 4 - Left PS Now in October 20
Rocket Arena - EA Play

So that's 5 on Now at the time of release to Plus, but also:

1 that had only just left Now in Just Cause)
3 (or 7) that have PS3 versions on PS Now.
3 that are also on EA Play

So there were actually 12/28 that weren't fresh to me as a subscriber to all 3 available services. (not counting about 5 I already owned, but that's my own fault!). The period Sept to Nov was particularly bad for the duplication as well.

Sony won't ever please everyone with the Plus games, but I do think they should be more careful to avoid duplication between services if they want to maximise retention and take up.

@LiamCroft it is an annoyance when games on PS Now pop up on PS Plus. If you're looking forward to a couple of new games, then they give you stuff you've already got in Now (or EA Play!) , it's a bit disappointing. We'll all survive though. Forum comments always sound more dramatic than they'd be in real life.

To my mind, the bigger problem that Sony have with Now is that a massive chunk of the customer base still think it is a streaming-only service. That feels worth an article and poll to gauge awareness, maybe?

Edit: see the comment right below this one for evidence!

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla (PS4) - Epic Viking Adventure Buckled by Countless Bugs

Barryburton97

Just flogged my PS4 copy to CEX for a tiny loss of £5. It's just too ropey to be enjoyable atm, even on the Pro.

A shame, as the story was starting to get interesting.

But the colour, lighting and overall visuals were infuriatingly bad. Characters faces went from red to grey to orange between scenes. Out of cutscenes, the characters have PS3 level graphics. Scenery popping in. Water like something on the PS3. The landscape just the wrong colour, sometimes looking almost cel shaded.

How they managed such a technical downgrade from the gorgeous (if boring) Odyssey I cannot understand.
I tried all sorts of settings on the console and within game and couldn't get it settled at all.

Might rebuy when it's on sale and patched up.
