Re: PlayStation Growth Boosts Sony Shares to Record Closing High

Balaam_

There’s another article floating around from a different site claiming the bump to Sony share prices is a direct result of the potential Kadokawa deal. I don’t know enough (or care to know enough) about financials/stock market to know which is more accurate, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle, I would imagine.

Re: Gamers Drawn to Troy Baker's Mesmerising Indiana Jones Like Moths to Flame

Balaam_

Todd Howard an “exacting boss”? Is that a joke? We are talking about the same Todd Howard that deemed the bug filled, glitch ridden, broken messes known as Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallouts 3/4/76 and Starfield as ‘fit to launch’, correct?

I’m waiting until spring to play Indy, but all indications so far are that it’s phenomenal—the only stain being that game-code-butcher’s name attached to it.

Re: Poll: What Are the Most Impressive Games You've Played on PS5 Pro?

Balaam_

Stellar Blade, easily. I won’t touch the filth that is FF7Rebirth due to Hama-scumbag-guchi’s piss poor failure in butchering the trophy list (which he has publicly apologized for, yet apparently doesn’t feel the need to patch his mistake) so Stellar Blade takes the crown for most effective use of the Pro’s feature set.

Re: Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Ships 2 Million Worldwide, Japan Accounts for at Least Half

Balaam_

So it’s safe to assume square is displeased with these figures? I’ve often wondered how the three brain cells shared among Square’s executives reason things out.

Dragon Quest is exponentially more popular in Japan than in the west, and this was available on all platforms at launch. The sales, while solid, aren’t exactly beating out GTA or anything. So all the mewling about how Final Fantasy—an IP with arguably less pull than DQ—would have sold amazingly if only it had released on Xbox as well seems kind of…short sightedly incompetent to me.

Re: Round Up: Indiana Jones Reviews Are Live, Mostly Very Strong

Balaam_

Good. This is the single game they showed at the last big showcase that I cared about, and I am eagerly awaiting it’s Spring release on PlayStation (and hopefully the Pro patch won’t be garbage). I don’t know Machine Games’ track record as far as curating the achievement lists in their games. Are they alright, or are they typically glutted with difficulty related achievements, multiplayer/online-server-dependent achievements, or any other offensive trash like tacked on low effort wave survival modes?

Re: Video: 10 Games You Need to Play on PS5 Pro

Balaam_

Playing Stellar Blade right now on DF’s recommended “Pro” mode @120hz (NOT Pro Max) and it’s sensational. Would have liked to go through FF7Rebirth @60fps without the need for corrective lenses, but with the trash trophy list, that game is of no account. That scum Hamaguchi even formally apologized for his incompetence and promised to do better in the future—my question is, Why not fix what you ruined in the first place? Address your failure and patch that garbage.

Re: Ubisoft FPS XDefiant Shutting Down, Not Accepting New Players

Balaam_

Yet another reason why all developers should be forced to post all online trophies in separate lists from any single player campaigns, and further proof of why Sony needs to allow us to DELETE GAMES WITH PARTIALLY COMPLETED TROPHY PERCENTAGES FROM OUR ACCOUNTS. Not just ‘hide’, permanently erase. Not just games at 0%, ANY AND ALL GAMES NO MATTER THE TROPHY PERCENTAGE.

True, it isn’t as much of an issue in a game like xDefiant where one knows going into it it’ll be online only, but moreso for all the scummy devs that shoehorn multiplayer garbage into single player game where it doesn’t belong, or else tack on low-effort modes to make a quick buck at the expense of the trophy hunter who never would have bought it had they known. I’m looking at you Uncharted, TLoU, Ghost of Tsushima (and unfortunately probably Ghost of Yotei…) Days Gone and Resident Evil 2, 7 and 8.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS1 Memories?

Balaam_

Playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The story and voiceover work rival anything the motion picture industry could produce. I still have my original black label copy, because it came on this neat thing called a disc which I’ve held on to and can play anytime I want without restriction or the fear someone will take it away from me or permanently alter it against my will.

Re: Feature: Happy 30th Birthday to PlayStation

Balaam_

Pity these awesome system themes will be needlessly removed after a week. What a stupid decision. Probably came from the scum that decided to limit the 30th anniversary Pro to a paltry 12K units to satisfy scalpers and screw over decades-loyal fans.

Re: PS Blog Wants to Know Your 2024 Game of the Year on PS5, PS4

Balaam_

As much as I love FromSoft games, there’s no way in Izalith they qualify for ‘Graphical Showcase’. Art direction is distinctly different than ‘wow this game has great graphics’, and all FromSoft games only qualify in the former, not the latter (excluding the Demon’s Souls remake which was a Bluepoint joint).

Art direction in Souls games is second to none, but any individual asset is rather mediocre when examined independently against the whole.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for December 2024 and January 2025

Balaam_

PSA for anyone looking at the PS5 versions of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 7 (specifically 2 and 7): In an inexplicably poor decision, Capcom has architected these PS5 versions to Auto Unlock only the good portions of the trophy lists when using save data from the PS4 versions.

The horrendous, tedious, god awful DLC’s for RE7 and that terrible survival mode from RE2 do NOT Auto Unlock. How Capcom dropped the ball and did exactly the opposite of what they should have is beyond me. A competent executive decision would have auto unlocked the trash so it could be bypassed without forcing everyone to slog through that mess, while leaving the core game’s reasonable list for an enjoyable replay.

Re: Mini Review: Nine Sols (PS5) - The Best Metroidvania on the Market

Balaam_

I honestly don’t care for the visual aesthetic. I’ve seen considerably better in both the indie and AA/AAA space. But, that alone won’t prevent giving it a try if all the other pieces are in place as far as gameplay and progression are concerned. The only potential thing that would kill any desire to even pick up the controller would be if the devs implemented a tedious, unnecessarily difficult, trophy hunter unfriendly trophy list.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of the PS5 Pro, Three Weeks Later?

Balaam_

It’s too early to formulate an even remotely conclusive opinion on the Pro yet. Far too early. Its biggest feature is a machine learning upscaler. That’s machine learning, people. It takes time to properly train. Any PC user will tell you early iterations of DLSS were mostly trash too. Now, it’s a godsend in the pc space. Let’s all give PSSR some time to show what it can do, instead of jumping the gun to declare it a bad solution now, only to look like a fool in the coming years.

Re: 74% of PS5 Fans Would Be Interested in a Handheld

Balaam_

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; I have no use for such a device.

I’m not aged 6-12 with a long school bus ride where it would admittedly be pretty cool to pass the time. I don’t have a 2hr commute on the train. When I game, it’s from the comfort of a plush armchair, Dualsense in hand, parker in front of a giant 4K@120hz OLED for the full, fat console experience. I have no interest in squinting at a screen mere inches across while I play a downscaled version of a game.

Re: Rumour: PlayStation Event Could Be Incoming, Sony's Very Busy 'Behind the Scenes'

Balaam_

@OldGamer999 I won’t play GTA games since they force the online component (with those horrendous trophies…) into the trophy list, but it is something I’d play half heartedly on my alt account. That said, I doubt 60fps is possible even on Pro, but a 40hz mode would be a fantastic compromise for anyone with a VRR capable display (of which there are many nowadays).

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want a Steam Deck-Like Portable PlayStation?

Balaam_

Thanks to the article writer for including an option for not giving a crap about portable gaming. A handheld means less than nothing to me.

Why would I want to hunch over a tiny screen with cramped controls for a compromised experience when I can game from the comfort of a plush armchair on a glorious 77” 4K@120hz OLED with a Dualsense? No one goes to rooftop soirées like in those embarrassing Switch ads. Not everyone has a 2hr commute on the train or school bus. I can’t speak for others, but when I’m sitting on the porcelain Xbox I’m not glued to a screen. I don’t understand the draw of a handheld, outside that of maybe schoolchildren.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sequel's Platinum Trophy Won't Make You Want to Jump into a Mako Reactor

How Yamaguchi still has a job is beyond me. Anyone that bad at what they do is usually relegated to begging for bread in the street. Hopefully he gets replaced with someone competent, someone who puts the gamer first instead of his own selfishness. Here’s a thought; maybe patch the trash you failed at so badly instead of taking the easy way out and issuing a meaningless apology after the fact?
