Rumour: Gears of War PS5's Blu-ray Will Include the Full Game on the Disc

Decision made then.
(I didn't think of the offline thing...... decision not made then)

I’ll believe it when I get confirmation it can be played offline and installed ONLY from the disc.

Till then, it’s in do not buy at launch territory for me.

@get2sammyb I will say that I’m not hugely bothered either way as I DO own the upgraded Gears of War release on disc for Xbox, so passing this up won’t hurt me all that much. But if it has the actual game AND is on PS…yeah, that’ll be an instant buy for sure!

@dskatter I always wonder why it's such an issue. Everyone has Internet nowadays and most games that are old enough for the company to stop support it are old and aged ugly. I understand that some ppl have that nostalgia itch and play ps1 games etc. but they're very few.

Nah I honestly don’t believe it, and I don’t think Vandal has that information, remember we didn’t find out about DOOM until people started receiving their physical copies, betting this is yet another 80mb disc.

I’m not in the habit of applauding for when a company does its job, but when they fail so often regarding something so simple and then finally do the job right, I’ll give it to them.

@themightyant Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs that actually having the full game on the disc/cartridge is now considered a bonus to be grateful for.

@N0CYmr0k To put it in a perspective: since we can't download a car, imagine buying it and when it arrives you only get the wheels but the rest of it will be shipped to you gradually. (PS5 era Microsoft games)

A slightly better thing would be to get the entire car but it can only drive to 80km/h due to a bad engine so you'll get a new engine in a few days (PS3/4/5 era games)

The best solution would be for you to get a car which can drive without any or with only minor issues the moment you buy it (PS1/PS2 era games)

Basically the point is this: if a company provides physical media than they should at least try to get the best possible version of the game on the disc, otherwise they should just stick to digital only distribution because buying a physical disc just to start a digital download is an oxymoron.

Oh, I actually would add that not everyone has hyper fast internet even today. Buying a physical disc only to find another 80GB download is needed is…not great if you have a 5-10 MB/sec download speed, as I did only a few short years ago. “Yay, I bought this game on disc that…I’ll get to play…tomorrow I guess…”

Here is a breakdown of some of the things we as the consumers have just accepted but is really absurd if you think about it:

1. Day 1 patch: Now this is something completely absurd. Studios don't manage to bring the complete game out on time and sometimes even lie about the state of the game when it comes out (looking at you MindsEye and Cyberpunk). Then in the close/distant future they manage to get the product as close to what they wanted to achieve in the first place (looking at you CyberPunk). The equivalent from the consumer perspective would be to preorder the game for half the price and then to pay the rest of the price when it actually gets finished.

2. Disc containing only a licence: the most absurd thing out there which I explained in my previous post.

3. Collector's editions without the game: This is actually called a "collector's box" which is basically a goodie bag full of mostly meaningless merchandise. The absurd part here is the price most of the time, but there is a recent exception to this. Expedition 33 has actually received a collector's edition with the game which sold out in hours but the nice folks at Kepler/Sandfall have managed to give people a "monolith set" which is a goodie box but it is filled with the collector's edition content without the game itself and the contents are amazing as well as the price being great. This is how it should be done: you get bang for you buck.

Conclusion: We all like different things and this is OK, but we must be clear when something is being lazy / wrongly advertised / anti-consumer / etc so voting with your wallet is the best thing to do here. Besides, we all are blessed with huge backlogs full of great games so why bother with half-baked physical or digital products.

And yes: Having a backlog is a blessing not a curse so I wish you all a great gaming weekend and enjoy your backlogs!

Xbox already had the idea I think.
If I remember correctly (and its been a while), way back at the start of the Xbox One /PS4 era they wanted to use some form of DRM to prevent you trading in the disc. They went back on it, along with some other things that weren't popular (like trying to turn the console into a media hub at the expense of not spending enough on the GPU), but it was too late.

Between the above and PS3's excellent exclusives at the end of it's generation, Xbox got off to a horrible start, and people like myself 'defected' from Xbox360 to buy PS4 instead of Xbox one. It really didn't help Xbox one that their GPU ended up only about 2/3 as powerful as PS4's despite the console costing about the same to begin with.

A run of excellent exclusives from Sony, with very little from Xbox, later in the PS4 generation and Xbox never really had a chance to recover.

Peoples digital libraries were building during all this time and we are where we are.

@Czar_Khastik To be fair, if Sony put God of War and The Last of Us on Xbox, I wouldn't complain at all that the physical Xbox versions aren't complete on disc. I'd just be glad to experience these games on a platform I never thought I'd be able to.

Not being on the disc (and playable offline) is just a line in the sand that some people will not cross. To each their own though I think it's a smaller minority than the internet would lead people to believe

@N0CYmr0k When my younger family members want to play a game from a previous generation, I simple hook up the console and put the physical game medium in. My family still uses our OG PS3's and X360s which aren't connected to the internet. Since they don't have a permanent place on the entertainment shelf. And those games won't have any censorship too and can be enjoyed as they were when they came out for years to come in the family. Benefits of physical media whether its a game, movie, or book. One just has to go fetch it so to speak. It really matters to me.

I would like a full game physical of Forza and Oblivion remake. Doubt that's happening.

Honestly, this shouldn't be news because it should be SOP for any game put onto a disc.
Example: In Europe, the MGS Master Collection has a lot of default DLC content. The US version has all of this on disc by default. I own the US version, of course. Such bs, anyways!
