Rumour: Gears of War PS5's Blu-ray Will Include the Full Game on the Disc 1

It’s a sign of the times that this headline exists at all! But Xbox has proven that it doesn’t give a hoot about physical media anymore, despite mouthpiece Phil Spencer saying his company is supportive of the sector a little over a year ago.

As you’ll no doubt be aware, the PS5 versions of DOOM: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle shipped with just a few megabytes on their discs. It looks like the upcoming The Outer Worlds 2 will follow the same pattern, despite costing $80 at launch.

But according to Spanish website Vandal, Gears of War Reloaded may buck this trend. According to the publication’s retail sources, the Blu-ray release of this remaster will include the full game on the disc, so you’ll be able to play it in its entirety without connecting to the Internet.

Now obviously it’s 2025 so there will be various patches as well, but for the purposes of preservation, we think it’s important for publishers to ship complete games. If it’s true that Marcus Fenix’s PlayStation debut won’t require an additional download, then that’s good news for fans of physical media.

What’s particularly interesting here is that, thus far, Microsoft has only committed to a physical version of this game on the PS5. Despite the Gears of War series being one of Xbox’s most iconic franchises, it appears to have no plans to release a Blu-ray version of this game on its own machine.
