This is the studio that gated trophies behind PS Move and PS vita in LBP2, forcing people to buy those expensive peripherals if they wanted their rightful 100% completion. Then that same studio decides to abruptly shut down the online servers instead of fixing a hack, thereby screwing thousands of trophy hunters who had not yet completed the game out of ever attaining the platinum/100% (check the forum posts for users spewing vitriolic comments directed at MediaMolecule’s bad decision making. Fortunately I had already finished the game and moved on, but some friends on my list got screwed by them).
I guess what I’m saying is there is no way in Hades I’m touching anything MediaMolecule has a hand in making ever again.
@11001100110zero Did you watch the DF video? He specifically mentions the cpu constraints a few times. Zen2 isn’t exactly recommended spec for RPCS3 emulation on pc, and the PS5 is a slightly cut down version of that architecture. It cannot “easily make it work”. This is also the reason this emulation probably wouldn’t fare much better on Pro; same cpu clocked ever so slightly higher just isn’t enough to power though this.
But in all seriousness, after slogging through the original FF7 Remake’s overly tedious and needlessly difficult platinum on base PS4, I skipped buying both Intergrade and Rebirth at launch. One check in with the trophy hunting community will show I’m not alone in my methodology. While that’s certainly not enough to make any financial impact that Square would care about, it’s telling that Hamaguchi-chan realized the error of his way and seems to have course corrected the trophy criteria for the third installment, as well as instituting mitigating factors to compensate for the piss poor design of the list in the current titles.
I already have Rebirth (got it physically on steep discount) and will probably pick up Intergrade too at some point. They were always great games, trophy criteria aside, and I look forward to playing through them. Remember folks, you can build the most elegant an performant supercar in the world, but if you make the steering wheel out of razor wire then you’ve ruined it.
I’m sure this will provide more cash flow for WotC to continue to ruin MtG through further ‘Fortnite-ification’, forcing in external non-related IP’s that have nothing to do with the game.
@Americansamurai1 @wilky2988 I believe the strategy here is to go after the more casual PlayStation fanbase. All the hardcore who were going to have already bought-in, so Sony is trying to reach people who might not even know what the Pro is vs the base unit. Sony is highlighting games that demographic goes for, like sports games and big name titles. If casual slop like Fortnite saw massive large scale improvements on Pro you could bet they would have pushed that too.
Yeah, Sony needs to Fort Knox-ify account security for everyone, and yesterday. Not being able to get your account back in the event of a hack though, Sony should be sued for that. That’s the worst piss poor lack of customer service imaginable.
Hypothetically, one could invest thousands—perhaps tens of thousands—of dollars in games and subscription fees over the course of almost twenty years and then POOF it’s gone forever, and Sony refuses to help you recover it. That’s yet another reason in the ever growing pile of reasons to only ever buy physical media when humanly possible. At least then you could simply make a new account and have all your games.
@LiamCroft “It seems the 12-month option isn't impacted. If you allow your current PS Plus membership to expire, you will need to start paying the increased price.”
I read that as even if you’re an annual subscriber and let your subscription lapse, the next time you re-subscribe for a full year there will be no price increase. Is that correct, or have I misinterpreted it?
@Gremio108 I’m of the same mindset generally speaking, but I’d wager that GTA6 is going to be so massively large and packed with such an inordinate amount of content that a 3rd trailer will hardly scratch the surface. There’s also the potential they focus solely on the multiplayer part in the next trailer for all…those people who enjoy that type of thing.
Genuinely did not know a publisher could license game music in perpetuity. Considering this is a relatively tiny indie team and AnnaPurnaInteractive isn’t exactly a publisher like TakeTwo or Activision with nearly limitless funds to throw around, the only question I can think to ask is WHY AREN’T ALL GAMES WITH LICENSED MUSIC/CARS LICENSED INDEFINITLEY
Couldn’t be happier. Sped through this garbage forced add-on as fast as humanly possible to get those trophies over and done with. I bought/played/loved Yotei for the well crafted, story-focused adventure, not some low effort repetitive tacked on slop. Time wasted on this type of thing is time that should be spent crafting the next epic.
Can’t say I’ve played this one (or even heard of it until now). I like the black and white scribbly visuals, and I’m fine with the simplest of trophy lists (as long as there’s a decent enough game behind it to not relegate it to the ‘jumping taco trophy slop’ category). Might give this one a try.
The actual GTA5 game—the story part—was alright, but aside from that there’s literally nothing here. It’s a cognitive wasteland. Tumbleweeds. If you aren’t stacking pixelated squares in Minecraft you’re running around in circles killing, dying and repeating like a dullard. This list is full of mindless, braindead tedium. No sense of adventure, nothing to simulate or challenge a person’s mental faculties or critical thinking ability. This list is the digital equivalent of that ‘catch the ball on the string with the cup’ game from ye olden days; a pointless repetitive venture.
I picked ‘Nah, I don’t care what others are playing’ because no it wouldn’t influence my choice of games in the slightest. I would have picked ‘I’d check the list once then turn away in disgust at all the live service slop the drooling masses waste their time on’, but that poll option doesn’t exist.
Really tried to get into Mortal Shell but the implementation of the parry mechanic never felt quite right. I think at the time it was only 30fps on ps4 so I thought the jump to 60 frames on ps5 might make a difference, but nope. The timing is just off with it.
If you’re going to cut overhead, cut this kind of stuff first. Something like Bluepoint should be an absolute last resort once all these satellite ventures have already been considered.
•Other: Confirmation of continued support for physical media on PS6 through either an internal (preferably) or external disc drive. Bare minimum PS4-PS6, ideally PS1, PS2, PS4-PS6, in a perfect world PS1-PS6 full disc backward compatibility.
Can’t get past the ultra generic, cookie cutter visual aesthetic. This looks like every other low budget anime game on psn. I wonder how much it would eat into those incredible profit percentages if they hired skilled graphic designers instead of just opening a developer menu and clicking ‘generic anime style’ in whatever engine they’re using?
First game was fantastic. Looked great, played great, sounded great. Excellent performance, extremely well designed trophy list. My only concern for a sequel is the change in publishing duties; I sincerely hope ShiftUp understands the value of physical media and puts the second game on disc just like the first one was.
@INeedGoodGraphics I hate that as well. Not so much the cloud save paywall; with that I figure I’m already going to subscribe to ps+ anyway so it’s neither here nor there to me. It’s the removal of the option of USB saves entirely on PS5 that’s a major step backward. Everyone knows why they did it (one less means of a security breach and one step harder to jailbreak), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t screwing over millions of users.
My least favorite Sony console by a colossal margin; my least favorite generation of gaming as well.
The overwhelming majority of games ran at awful, choppy framerates (especially on PS3); for the first time in console history developers could get away with pushing unfinished slop out the door because ‘it can be patched later’; the inclusion of hard drives meant publishers could abandon physical media entirely, thus stripping away a consumer’s right of ownership; there was far, far too much focus placed on online multiplayer; we saw the birth of forced subscriptions for online multiplayer with the 360 which paved the way for Sony to follow suit next gen; too many gimmicky ideas like Wii’s motion controls; a lot of gaming IP went into hibernation and the franchises that did continue tended to have very poor sequels…
All these worthless ideas coming out of Sony have me inching ever closer toward jalbreaking my console so I can forceably remove them should they be implemented.
Picked “I only buy physical games” because there was no ‘I only buy digital when there is no option for physical’ choice. That’s the most accurate reflection of my buying habits. I won’t not buy a game if there is no disc available (though I will absolutely wait if there’s a staggered release schedule or good reason to believe a disc will be released down the road), but only a fool throws away the security of permanent ownership for the lazy convenience of leasing a digital license when both options are available.
Personally, I draw the line at anything beyond image upscaling or similar use cases for the tech.
I can’t fathom the state of mind one would need to be in to stoop to asking a virtual assistant a question. That’s either excessive laziness, a complete inability to research a topic on one’s own, or some combination of both and I hope to god they don’t try to force a PlayStation ai chatbot into the PS6’s core user functionality.
What a waste that such a staggering amount of time, money and the talent of china’s gaming workforce was spent on a gacha. What an absolute waste. This is the gaming equivalent of when the Joker burns that huge pile of money in Dark Knight.
@LifeGirl tv technology changed. The way light guns worked back on crt displays is difficult (sometimes impossible) to replicate in the same way on modern LCD’s, OLED’s, QLED’s etc. The best we’re going to get is either a sensor bar setup like Wii had or else motion/gyro aiming.
Growing up with the NES, YouTube, social media and the internet didn’t exist for much of my life. I got most of my gaming info at the time from magazines. While there is definitely the potential for overlap with the article topic, I learned to form my opinions more on info contained in previews. Reviews, not so much. Every once in awhile there’d be a particular reviewer in a given magazine who I observed liked/disliked most of the same titles I would, and that was a handy gauge as to whether or not I should look into a game, but nothing like today’s easily influenced crowd who merely parrot what their favorite YouTuber says.
@RockyOfficial the game isn’t on disc, so unless you want the steelbook just because you want a metal dvd case it’s pretty pointless. I’d wait a few years until this is $5 in the bargain bin or until Ubisoft does right by the player base and ships the full game on disc.
I think Sony thinks Horizon is bigger than it actually is. Or maybe it’s just nepotism from Hermen Hulst, as it’s kind of his baby. Either way, I have less than no interest in this.
Shoutout to the 2 people in the poll who probably never played a videogame before and voted for Starfield. Fear not! Most games aren’t as glitch riddled and borderline unplayable. There are plenty of high quality, polished experiences out there, don’t give up👍
