You Can Play Gears of War for the First Time Ever on PS5 This Weekend

I really can't stand locking betas and demos behind a pre-order. Does anyone know if you can pre-order, try the beta and then cancel the order?

Does anyone know whether the trophy list on PlayStation will match the original 360 achievement list (but with a platinum)? I’ve seen those mp trophies and that’s an instant ‘avoid this like it’s cancer’ warning, if so.

I really wish these platform holders would segregate the single player/multiplayer portions of trophy lists into two separate sku’s so as not to screw over trophy and achievement hunters who hate the low iq, tedious mindless repetition of multiplayer.

I never liked the multiplayer that much as it was very laggy on the 360. I'm only interested in the campaign and co-op. I'm not pre ordering either.

@Balaam_ Multiplayer against actual players is far harder than scripted Ai that lets you win… Also it’s more dynamic also, every match has a bunch of different variables.

@wiiware the campaign is very short so i think you dodged a bullet playing 50% of the game in a demo 🙃

@nomither6 I already played and finished the first and second gears of war on xbox 360, I think the campaign is about 10 hours long which translates to 15-20 hours for me since I usually play games slowly searching every nook and cranny 😃

Ok, I don’t consider myself a trophy hunter (I have a 41% trophy completion level, very low as I don’t bother if they aren’t fun to go for) but I do have to defend @Balaam_ ‘s position a bit here.

-whilst I don’t agree that any game is “high IQ”, certainly one characteristic of someone who traditionally has a high IQ is a boredom at repetition. Multiplayer is generally more repetitive in my view. That can be debated, but not outright dismissed

Also, trophy lists often require a player to complete the game on the highest difficulty mode, so saying trophy hunters always play on “numbing Story mode” is demonstrably untrue.

-I do agree with him that multiplayer and single player trophies both being required should perhaps be stopped, if only because all servers eventually go down, and so you could end up buying a game that is not completable - that is all developer provided challenges cannot be achieved. There is nothing stopping a dev from having two separate unlock requirements, it’s been done many times before.

To others: these are no more “meaningless dopamine baubles” than any other developer provided challenge or game system in a video game. They are all meant to ultimately elicit fun. And sure, a bad trophy list can be ignored, but to me that’s letting a dev off. It’s like saying “well, 50% of side missions in this game are crap, but it’s still a phenomenal game if you just ignore them, they aren’t essential”; true, but missing the point just a bit.

If a difficulty is dynamic it isn’t usually harder in the long run, further, it can also be easily gamed in most multiplayer situations with a little communication/organisation (depending on the trophy challenge), something you can’t do with an extreme difficulty single player playthrough.

It seems everyone jumped on the guy because they felt insulted that their preferred game type was called “low IQ”. Whilst not tactful, the truth is 99.9% of all games are “low IQ”. Just let people enjoy being completionists and having fun where they like.

@Northern_munkey it wasn't laggy at all on xbox 360. I've played it day one on xbox 360 and got 1000gs + all dlc and never had any lag. Had more to do with your internet connection

@thefourfoldroot1 I think that's well put. It's not that MP is low IQ, arguably it's higher IQ given players are (mostly) smarter than in game AI, and at very least the difficulty is tuned higher. "Low IQ" thus sounds quite dismissive and was maybe poor wording, but really refers to any achievement that requires THAT volume of anything. "Kill 50k grubs" in the campaign would be just as bad.

@Killionaire it used p2p connections on the 360 so possibly a collection of bad tinternet connections.

I'm so excited to jump into the multiplayer again this weekend. It's been too long! I played Gears religiously online back in the 360 days. Should be a nice nostalgic time... but also a surreal time since I'll be playing on a PS5! What a mad world indeed!

this isnt the xbox 360 version of gears its the xbox one ultimate edition thats been remastered for reloaded

Gears of War was celebrated with a remaster 10 years ago, and now it's being revised and again and now is becoming playable on PS5. We don't need to keep being reminded about the original Gears of War. It was great when it came out in 2006, but it's not on the level of Gears of War 2, and I think we all agree with this.
