It's a great week for Final Fantasy fans as the long-rumoured remaster of PS1 classic Final Fantasy Tactics has finally been announced.
Called Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, it looks great in its debut trailer, and what's more, you're able to pre-order the game now.
Unfortunately, all the different versions have led to some confusion, particularly around the Collector's Box.
Available exclusively from Square Enix's online store, the Collector's Box is a £200 package with lots of neat physical items — but it does not include the game itself.

If you want a copy of The Ivalice Chronicles as well, you have to add it to your order separately, adding £49.99 to the bill.
If you're curious, the Collector's Box contains:
- Several art cards
- A set of miniature chocobo plushies
- A set of zodiac stone magnets
- "Outlying Church" pop-up art
- A statue of protagonist Ramza Beoulve
So, it's a pretty nice bunch of goodies for die-hard fans, but excluding the game itself is an odd decision.
Anyway, if you want this, it's worth pointing out that the game itself is sold separately; you'll need to grab it from Square Enix's shop or plump for a digital version via PS Store.
Will you be opting for the Collector's Box, or are you happy with just the game? Tell us in the comments section below.

Square Enix should have removed some of those items and increased the price of the collector's box while the game should be more expensive if bought together with the box. Then only true collectors would buy that exclusive product.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'm not sure I agree. As much as I dislike it and prefer physical media the fact is DIGITAL is the dominant media format and some collectors only want the accessories, not the disc. This caters to everybody and you can choose if you want the disc, or the digital game separately.
If they included the code they would piss off physical console owners, who would be paying for something they don't need; and the same for digital console owners if they included the disc.
Separately £200, without the game, is insane for this.
Isn't it too steep????
Yall kind of jumped the gun on this one. They have 2 different versions. Collectors with the game for $250, or just the collectors goodies separate for $200. This post wasn't necessary and you don't even reference that there is a version with the full game.
@Czar_Khastik
Or, maybe the Collectors box should just be that - an empty box... That way you would need to 'collect' the contents yourself (by buying them of course), making you a true collector! Lol
(They could really make some money this way)
Putting the actual price aside for a separate discussion, it’s not a completely bonkers concept.
Many prefer digital releases. And then there’s many platforms to cater to today. This does make logistics and potentially open them up to more potential customers with just one SKU.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I haven't tried this with PS5 but you could play digital games on separate consoles on PS4, but it depended which one you set to primary. I gave my niece and nephew my PS4 and set it to my primary PS4, they can play all my digital games, on their accounts on that console. On my PS4 I could only play them on MY account. It's pretty obvious why this limitation exists to stop people just sharing their accounts and games. But that doesn't help in your situation with BOTH kids.
EDIT: For all the grief Microsoft got after the original Xbox One announcement one aspect I liked, before it was cancelled, was the idea of digital games sharing and potentially the idea of selling digital games. Obviously that never happened. But I see Nintendo have created a feature for Switch that allows loaning digital games to friends and family, while it's a bit clunky, if Digital is to be the format of the future I hope other platforms holders embrace this but do it better.
As for stock, I completely agree with @Lowdefal it's not a problem with making and selling different SKU's its'a problem with allocation. How many do you make of each SKU for every console and PC? That's suddenly up to 8+ SKUs, how do you get the right amount of stock for each and how do you distribute this to each retailer so that each doesn't have a lot of unsold produce. Much easier to just have one SKU for all systems and physical + digital options for each.
The retailer can then bundle physical copies or digital codes separately depending on their stock. Much like what @Zanao seems to suggest has happened.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare my comment wasn't directed to you, I meant the article itself shouldn't have been made as they have a $250 collectors game/collectibles and then the $200 just the collectibles.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare In PS4 you can play the digital games in as much consoles as you can but you have to be online. You can set a console as primary for offline play. I have not tried this on PS5 since I only have one console.
As for the topic... It is not a big deal. I may go for the Steam version but I may want some extra collectables. Square did the same with the latest Life is Strange.
@themightyant FYI, PS5 does have the same "console sharing" feature. My friend and I have done this since the PS4 and will split the cost of games with each other.
LOL
Thats a new low.
@Rich33 I hope Square staff are reading this because if Final Fantasy 9 remake releases soon, then we can get that true collector treatment 😎
@Czar_Khastik
"Gotta collect it all!" could be the pitch!
(Actually scrub that, thats just asking for a Nintendo trademark infringement notice)
Different on the US store - per Gematsu and the SquareEnix site, the game comes with the bundle. It also looks to be sold out unfortunately.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare yes there are 2 versions one with game and one without. It has always existed since they released pre orders last night. Granted they're all sold out now. That was the point I was trying to make is this articles doesn't even acknowledge that. Just click bait.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
Didn't know they limited you to 1 primary and 1 secondary (needs to be online) PS5. Thats a bit **** - I don't think you are alone in having 2 kids, and they really need to think up a way round that one, even if, as you say, they do it by home network.
@@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'm with you on Physical. One of the reasons is I don't want to give up my rights to share, lend or even sell my games. @Zanao (EDIT: read wrong ignore)
@Czar_Khastik Bro stop! that remake doesn't exist 😭
Releases like this are a ginormous, stinking pile of horse manure. Why even bother with all the cheap plastic smh
@Oram77 I'm still believin'! The anniversary is a month away, they must announce it soon because it's one of the few unannounced games from the Nvidia leak. I'm sure we'll be unable to aquire Excalibur II in 4k60 in the near future.
If I had money to dump on something like this, I’d be dumping it on something else.
The Ramza statue is nice and the Chocobo plushies are almost too adorable to pass up. And yet… I think I’ll be good with just a regular physical copy.
Gotta love that SE does 1 great thing(this remaster )hrs later they announced this all the good graces went down the drain
Amazing SE you find a way to impress me in a negative way
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
I may be talking complete and utter rubbish, but I thought you could have a child account made on your primary console and linked to your account, which could then be logged into on another PS5 providing said PS5 was always online (ie a secondary console) & they could access the same games, but not spend money unless authorised to.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare It's not a Collector's Edition of the game, and they didn't call it as such. It's a Collector's Box of collectibles, a separate item.
At this point just do a diy edtion. You choose what you want in it.
We need some ironic punishment for the people in this industry who think making collector’s editions of games but without including the actual physical game is ok. I’m thinking of something along the lines of ‘You got the job, but no salary. You should have picked the job+salary option on your application’ 😆
Collectors box and game bundle £249.99 lol.
That said, it'll probably resell even higher one day, can't really blame square for wanting a bigger slice of the insane prices these things sometimes reach.
I think most the people who buy them are viewing them as financial investments at that price.
How can you have a collectors edition of a game without the actual game 😂😂😂😂 jesus just price it a bit higher and include it so you don't look like literal idiots
Edit - apparently there is a collectors edition with the game too? Well this misleading article says nothing of that. I can't even find that edition though? So it's a moot point if its not there or sold out
Thoroughly enjoyed the comments. Came here knowing they had 2 versions. 1 with and 1 without the game (makes sense as there is no physical release for pc or Xbox).
Watching the many spiritual journeys from screw SE -> this article is misleading was worth the engagement
This is such a lazy release. It should've been a full remake like FF7, not a quick cash grab like Chrono Cross.
Makes me worried about the rumoured FF9 remake
@themightyant Yeah that a digital fan doesnt want clutter because the disc will take in a lot of space. Well atleast they dont put in a steelcase with to make a even bigger joke of what defends this.
I just want the Chocobos…
Tbh I'm a bit disappointed with this port, I was expecting a bit more plus no language support feels like a very lazy one.
I dont mind them separating things, but at $200 for the items shown this is a ripoff.
At most were looking at 10-15$ worth of goods. I feel like they didnt even try.
It's a "fan box." It makes perfect sense if you're a collector, especially the type that just likes to keep things sealed or at least complete. This way you can keep your collectible stuff mint/sealed and still be able to just play the game without needing to buy another copy.
they should've made me win it by playing ring toss at the local town fair this summer
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
No worries - in which case, they really need to sort some sort of family sharing system for a parent and multiple childeren living in the same location. It can't be that difficult.
