DOOM The Dark Ages PS5 Game of the Month May 2025

Update []: Your votes have been counted, and one title as triumphed over our Game of the Month competition for May 2025.

This time, DOOM: The Dark Ages has come out on top. The bone-mashing shooter didn't dominate the public poll, but it still had a very healthy lead over its closest rivals.

800 votes were cast in said poll, which we published earlier this week. These are the top five PS5 titles of May 2025, according to readers of Push Square:

  1. DOOM: The Dark Ages - 262 votes (33%)
  2. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time - 136 votes (17%)
  3. Elden Ring Nightreign - 116 votes (15%)
  4. The Precinct - 69 votes (9%)
  5. The Midnight Walk - 45 votes (6%)

A new DOOM was always going to be a popular choice, but it obviously helps that the game itself is a blast. id Software's talent for crafting adrenaline-spiking action has always been apparent, and there's nothing quite like the the modern DOOM trilogy on the market.

We gave the release a 'great' 8/10 in our full DOOM: The Dark Ages PS5 review. "When The Dark Ages gets to the FPS action, there aren’t many who do it better than id Software. Take some time to adjust to it, and you’ll discover another fantastically ferocious first-person shooter," we wrote.

Congrats to the Doom Slayer on his deserved win! Hopefully he gets to take at least a little break from mowing down the hordes of hell now that he's been rewarded for his efforts.

Original Story: May was another surprisingly busy month here in the land of PlayStation. Sure, it may not have boasted the same kind of heavy hitters that April enjoyed, but a broad range of new releases still kept us on our toes.

The biggest name, we suppose, was DOOM: The Dark Ages. Concerns over commercial success aside, the crunching first-person shooter reviewed well, and most players seemed to have had a (pun intended) blast with it.

While we're on the topic of fast-paced chaos, we'd be fools to simply skip over Elden Ring Nightreign, which dropped just before the month's end. A new FromSoftware release is always a big deal, although we are left wondering whether its multiplayer focus will stop it from competing in this particular competition.

As for something completely different, how about Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, or RoadCraft? They're not exactly household names, but the critical consensus has been very positive on both fronts.

And finally, we can't forget about the smaller titles that stood strong throughout May. Impressively dynamic cop sim The Precinct was a highlight for us, alongside the joyous to a T.
