Ghost of Yotei's Pricey $250 PS5 Collector's Edition Is for the Hardcore Fans Only

I have the Collector's Edition on order, and am very much looking forward to receiving it... 😊

The physical mask that comes with the CE looks really nice, and it should pair very well with the first game's mask on a shelf.

I think its a bit pricey for what it is, but that being said I have it on Pre-Order 😅 I really like the look of the mask, and the digital version is perfect for me anyway as I can play it without a disc drive.

I wanted to maybe find a traditionally made Japanese mask instead but haven't got a clue where to look for one, so this will do.

I do like collectors editions and all, but i just don’t understand why they won’t add a physical copy in it. Isn’t one of the main points of being a collector, to be able to showcase a collection of physical disc boxes?

Or do they include the box with the cover and stuff? Honestly i dont know, i’ve never bought one of these collectors editions

I love Sucker Punch but not that much 😅 but I won't lie, that mask looks amazing!

I’m one of the few who thought Ghost of Tsushima was good but not quite up there with the best of Sony’s first party devs. I’ll certainly buy and play Yotei but I’m not excited for it in the same way that I was for Death Stranding 2 or if a new full-fat God of War game was announced.

It could be worse, @LogicStrikesAgain, some Collector's Editions come with a Steel Case and a download code. I mean, what is the point in that...?

I preordered the collectors edition day 1. I dont normally buy collectors editions, but this year i bought my first 2 in death stranding 2 and this.

Excited to play yotei.

Did they announce the date of the state of play in July for this yet? Curious to see if legends returns or if they spin it off into its own thing.

@graymamba I agree. I really loved the game but the side activities repeated quite a bit. I did finish the game and the DLC. It felt like a 10 out of 10 game for the first half, and an 8 for second half. I do look forward to the sequel but would have loved for Sucker Punch to go back to making new Infamous and Sly Cooper games.

Probably the digital deluxe version for me, don't have the space to store the collectors stuff but nice stuff

This is another CE that'll pass on due to not having a disc.
If you want collector editions, I don't see why you would even go with a digital only console.

Before kids I would have been all over this. With 3 of them under 6 running around, I’ll let others enjoy it lol

There is no physical disc, no steelbook, no artbook, no physical soundtrack: this is essentially a goodie box with a digital game.

The only CE i've ever bought in my life was:

• Vita Muramasa Rebirth: Blessing of Amitabha. Back then it only cost around like $60 but now i think it could cost $400.
• PS3 Disgaea 4. Back then only cost $50-60 but now maybe it's cheaper.

Both are worth every penny and i got the physical copy too. Outside that, most of my physical copy are standard with some has the steelcase or mini artbook.

For me, the only important thing is the game so i prefer not to spend my money for stuff like mask, figures, etc that only took more space inside my small room.

When MS did similar or even at least have an near empty disk, you had 2 or 3 articles on it, stamping your feet exclaiming that it "simply wasn't good enough".

This is Sony doing it to it's own customers and all you have to say is that it's "irritating".

No steelbook is a deal breaker to me. Usually Im always willing to spend money on Collectors Edition, as long as Im intrested in the game and it includes a steelbook.

Sometimes we criticize decisions in a hyperbolic manner, calling various things ‘stupid’ simply because we don’t like them. I contend this ‘ultra expensive edition aimed solely at the most hardcore collector but not including a physical disc version of the game’ decision is legitimately stupid. Just a plain old incompetent, poorly thought out choice. The people who these types of special editions cater to almost universally want to actually own the game physically. To elect not to include it makes absolutely no sense. It’s not about saving money; the cost of minting the disc and the added weight of it in the package relevant to shipping costs is inconsequential.

This is so blatantly tone deaf. It’s the equivalent of Bugatti or Ferrari making one of those $1million+ supercars aimed at the ultra rich high end automotive enthusiast and using cheap plastic, fake leather and a Honda civic engine. If you’re targeting a specific audience, then cater to that freakin audience’s expectations.

It's kinda difficult to be a hardcore fan of a game we don't know sheet about, but people here somehow manage.

@LogicStrikesAgain I think the issue is that SIE doesn't want to make two SKUs for the set - one digital, one physical - because if it just had the game on disc, owners of the digital PS5 wouldn't be able to play the game. It's still annoying though, for $250 you really do expect the disc to be included.

Steelbooks and statues are usually what get me to spread my.... wallet open. This is tempting, but the mask doesn't quite do it for me. Probably a physical deluxe edition will do it for me, if it's available.

gonna buy the collectors edition. already have the ghost of tsushima collectors edition, with this one I have two masks, one for each side of my shelf XD

I'll probably skip this CE but mostly because I'm running out of space to display the collectibles 😅

@Fiendish-Beaver the Power Rangers Rita's Revenge special edition comes with a steelbook, with no spindle for the disc to go into. Like what is even the point. It does include the disc in a standard case, but then what is the incentive to buy the collectors edition with the steel case at that point 😅

For me I am fine not having the disc as I ended up having to buy a separate disc for the first game after having the collector’s edition to accommodate the DLC, same with Horizon. I am trying to keep
my library streamlined. No more double dips.

I’m currently replaying GoT and just started the Iki Island content for the first time a couple of days ago. The new systems on display in the expansion have me even more excited for Yotei than I was before. I still love the feeling you get from the combat when you pull off a perfect parry and your enemy is opened up for a punishing counterattack, even all these hours in.

@graymamba same, I enjoyed the story but felt the vast majority of side content was unnecessary, generic, repetitive padding. Not a millions miles away from the Ubisoft open world formula. I hope this aspect has been vastly improved for the sequel, otherwise I’ll probably be content to wait for a sale before purchasing.

People overpaying for cosmetics and knick knacks is why these companies think they can keep charging us more and more. A collecters edition without a physical copy of the game is also laughable

Collector's edition without the physical game is the most brainless thing I've seen from Sony. It's like they don't understand who gets collector's editions.

@Scottyy The how low can you go idea the worse you make it the less people complain. Plus you cant resell the game pay more get less value. Also being able to say see people dont want physical media because you take away the option.

I’d love a collectors and keep it sealed. I know a guy who has got an unbelievable collection of collectors editions and they are all kept sealed. He’s sitting on a goldmine

I really wanted to buy the collector's edition of this game like the first one, but with there being no physical edition I'm not buying it.

My collector's edition should have game on disc. You should never have to download a code for a collector's edition game. I will proudly die on this hill.

Best scenario would be giving options for physical/digital while pre-ordering. But for the current climate I can understand choosing only digital makes more sense since everyone can play that digital game both disc&discless. What I was furious is some CEs don't even have the game so I didn't mind only digital version of this.

Aimed at the get yourself in debt core, nothing hardcore about this. What kinda lonely basement dweller would by this unless they weren't told to buy it from Sony. A download code and a mask and other trinkets that cost $5 each at the most to make. Gaming really isn't about the games anymore

Does the digital deluxe offer an artbook app like Horizon Zero Dawn did? Or a OST app? (I enjoy the Marvelous OST apps for USB, even though I would have expected them to offer a an OST player app but nope apparently not). To me offering apps for an artbook or OST digital is fair if they aren't going to do physical artbooks or OST CDs anymore. But no just make it cosmetics from the game instead, way easier and dull to offer players. There is a reason people upload OSTs to YT.

Otherwise just wait for these to go on sale and get the figures you want. Most of it isn't that appealing anyway.

Even better get a bunch of Japanese traditional figures for cheaper then these do and don't even need the Ghost of Yotei branding. Imagine that Sony. XD

Ehh I'll wait. If it's still available once the complete edition comes out perhaps I'll get it then. Like I recently got lucky with Horizon Forbidden West at a massive discount.
