Tekken 3 rarely gets re-released, with some speculating it may be due to its inclusion of licensed manga character Gon.

To be fair, the legendary fighter did feature on Sony’s ill-fated PS Classic micro-console (albeit the PAL version), and publisher Bandai Namco was releasing licensed Gon tie-ins as recently as 2012 on the 3DS.

But just to put everyone’s mind at rest, we can confirm the character is included in the new emulated version of the game, available on the PS5 and PS4 today. PS Plus Premium subscribers can download the classic for free.

The easiest way to unlock Gon is set to set a high score in Survival mode, and enter your name initials as ‘GON’ on the leaderboard screen. You’ll then find him off-screen during the character select menu.

To be honest, while Tekken 3 holds up remarkably well overall, Gon is pretty pathetic to play as. His moves are slow and while his pint-sized build has novelty, he exists purely for comedic effect.

Still, while we always suspected it unlikely Bandai Namco would actually remove him from this version of the game, it’s good to know this build is complete and accurate to the PS1 original.
