The loudest fans of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 may insist on arguing on social media, but real ones know there’s an immense amount of respect between makers Square Enix and Sandfall Interactive.

It’s perhaps not a surprise to see crossover art between the two franchises emerge, then, as the darlings of the RPG genre got together for a special event in Paris earlier this week.

As part of the occasion, the art directors from each franchise each interpreted the opposite’s characters.

So, here we have Gustave and Maelle sketched by the iconic Tetsuya Nomura, as well as Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough drawn by Nicholas Maxson-Francombe. We have to imagine the team at Sandfall Interactive were pinching themselves when they saw Nomura’s take.

There’s no real word on whether this collaboration will evolve into anything more than some artwork, but we could see the two studios collaborating on some crossover content in the future.

Look, at the end of the day, a vibrant RPG industry is healthy for all of us. It’s great to see these two titans come together like this.
