Criticised House of the Dead 2 Remake Lurches to PS5, PS4 Just in Time for Halloween

Feels like they're missing a great opportunity by not having PSVR support. With normal controls, I just don't see the point, but in VR this could've been pretty awesome. Oh well.

I watched Moist critical play this on stream.... yeah this is a terrible remake, if we are being honest with ourselves.

@Ainu20 exactly. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, just like I did when they added Move controllers support.

Annoying crud like this makes it to PS5 but the likes of Deadly Premonition 2 are nowhere in sight.

First one plays alright with gyro controls 👍

@naruball the first one already plays well with joycon gyro on both generations, which should be just as manageable on DS4 and DualSense... in a world where more than three people remember their functionality. Dragging a rail shooter's crosshairs around the screen with a stick has, indeed, been only so effective since the NES days.

This remake looks fugly 🤮. Can Sega just port the Arcade / Saturn / Dreamcast ver? I would gladly buy it over this remake.

Read that playing on Switch 2 is the best experience for the first one since it ironed out the performance. I’ll check this out if I enjoy the first since negative reviews don’t deter me at all!

DF was none too pleased either, Mr Linneman mentioned this one briefly in either this week’s or the past week’s Direct. I tend to agree with him often whenever retro games or remasters/remakes are concerned.

It's utter garbage with the same issues as the first remake, mainly that it isn't built as a lightgun game so even on PC it's unplayable with modern lightguns. Add to that visuals that look worse than the original game and the new sound effects and voices are horrific.

This company has now spat out several awful remakes and the upcoming Panzer Dragoon Zwei is looking rubbish as well

Nothing, NOTHING, will beat gameplay with a light gun for these games. That being said, gyro on Switch was quite enjoyable for what it was. Part of me wishes someone would just make a damn light bar USB peripheral that plugs into the dock. Sony/Nintendo needs to build that functionality into their system so it can accept light bar USB peripherals. Why is that not possible? It seems like a no brainer and would open up an entire library of possibilities for light gun arcade games. My dream is to have the OG arcade house of the dead with light gun support on a home console. 🤤

@ButterySmooth30FPS Oh yeah. Backward compatibility massively improved performance. Also has way less gyro desync and much better load times.

Still a s*** remake. But it's good enough for the quality of the original to shine through.

This has literally been 33% off on Switch since release. Not a great sign.

Even as someone who thought the first remake was decent enough, it's really hard to get excited for another one of that same quality. Especially since it seems they rerecorded all the VO (haven't checked to see if the old VO is still provided as an option).

@lessthanleo first game is the one I was talking about, but specifically on Switch. Both motion aiming when docked and touch controls in other modes are supported; as a last gen port, it won't work with the mouse controls on NS2 (although my one attempt to use them regardless did see the gyroscope mimic the reticle's X-axis to an extent😆).

@Rambo-kind as with most arcade games without factoring in their original limitations. Citing my experience with the first HotD again, but most of your playtime will be likely spent on repeat playthroughs unlocking extra weapons (which, in turn, are fairly obligatory for tackling highest difficulties) and tackling other in-game achievements including several endings (assuming HotD2 has those as well). It bears mentioning that every stage tends to have multiple routes, too.

Well I don’t think it was that bad but my question is WHY isn’t Sega handling these games themselves especially after pulling all their classic games down recently?? This is a great franchise that like many others, deserves full attention from Sega not to farm it out to other developers to do half baked.

@ButterySmooth30FPS The first one on the switch 2 did indeed improve it tenfold. I did not try the 2nd on it yet. But if you give it a shot please fill us in and feel free to @ me. Lol.

@naruball @Ainu20 I don’t know what they are doing. All these old light gun games are perfect for VR. Have you seen On Point for VR (not coming to PSVR2 as far as I know). They obviously thought the same too. Release all the old arcade shooters in VR!
