So that's it then, the final piece to their downfall. They are literally just a third party publisher now and are going to lose a lot of players next gen. Even I might start buying their games on Playstation going forward 😂.

I think this pretty much ensures PlayStation 1st party won't ever make single player focused fps games again. There's literally no incentive for them to enter the space when the competition is bringing their titles to the platform; Resistance and Killzone are as good as dead.

Honestly of all Microsoft’s mistakes, I think losing control of Halo’s quality is the biggest one that isn’t talked about enough. Back in its hay day, it was probably THE representative of all of gaming. Nothing was bigger than Halo at the time, so seeing the franchise in the lull that’s its been in since 343 took over is astonishing.

How long and for decades as one video player, one cassette deck, one cd player, one 4K player.
Played all music and films.

I know hope one day it will be just be one console plays all games day one from all studios and stop being so dam right greedy and old fashioned.

@ShadowRJ In 343i's defense, I think it had more to do with diminishing returns on a tired formula than any significant drop in quality.

Same problem God of War was having, except Halo never got its GoW (2018) moment.

I know a lot of people think down on Nintendo for pushing the same franchises for decades. But I think they're one of the only companies that can successful keep a series fresh, relevant, and high-quality consistently for long periods of time.

Good to have it! I've always preferred Playstation in general but Halo has been and still is the GOAT of fps in my opinion. I always found some way to play the latest Halo release every chance I had. Sometimes it involved going over to a friend's house. Sometimes I joined my brother for a co-op session. I got to play Halo Infinite on PC when I last got a new laptop. Absolutely loved it. It was my GOTY that year.

Having Halo on Playstation is honestly a dream come true for me. Sure I wish it had multiplayer but as stated in this article the future of the series is on Playstation as well. Multiplayer will come. Never thought I'd see the day!

@ShadowRJ I remember both Halo 2 and 3 launches. Both legitimate events in the gaming world (and for good reason).

@MrPeanutbutterz They were. I remember reading the 2008 Guinness Book of Records Gaming Edition, where they declared Halo to be THE best series in gaming. Halo was an event back in those days as you say. Everybody I knew who cared about gaming didn’t have PS2s, because they all had the Xbox to play Halo.

Makes sense for multiplayer they all need every player they can get

@ShadowRJ Absolutely. I remember one for the dudes I'd bump into regularly at the nightclub we'd both frequent, and the biggest news for a good while was selling his PS2 and collection of game to finance an Xbox with Halo 2 and a Live subscription!

He was a bit of a "hit with the ladies" (being 6'2" with perfect build and hair will do that) and used to be flummoxed that some of them he brought home weren't impressed by online Halo 🤣

@OldGamer999 Competition is why the PS4 gen was so good, why Sony turned it around with the PS3 by the end, why Nintendo recovered with the Switch. I can tell you if exclusives didn't exist then Ghost of Yotei, Wolverine, The Last of Us, Forza, Gears, Uncharted, Zelda, Mario and such wouldn't exist or wouldn't exist as they are. Exclusivity is why Spider-Man 2 can have 60+ costumes with none being MTX, if Sony weren't trying to sell a console then the game would be full of MTX and such. MS going 3rd party isn't a win for anyone but Sony because now Sony has "won" they have more freedom to screw the customer over and we know they can because of the PS3 and the BS they pulled with that early on.

Crazy times indeed! I know Microsoft already published multiple games on Playstation now, but by saying “Halo is on Playstation going forward”, it does feel like Microsoft has now truly embraced their future as a multiplatform publisher.

And i have to say, the way Halo studios is handling it, with the Playstation t shirt wearing and welcoming spirit and all, is way more courteous than how some fanbases act online

Played them all on their respective Xboxes with the exception of Halo Wars (no interest in that style of game). I’d be happy to pick up 1-3 and ODST, and I’d possibly consider Reach and 4, but after that I’m out. 5 is just not a quality title and Infinite screams LIVE SERVICE first…with a token campaign thrown in almost as an afterthought.

I still feel like I woke up in an alternate reality with this. Never thought I’d see the day!

I’d ever had any interest in Halo. But now, I still have no interest in Halo. But good for all the PS fans who have wanted this.

I’ll be buying and playing each and every Halo that releases on PS5. It is one of my all time favorite franchises, and I’ve arguably spent more time in that world than any other game I’ve ever played (multiplayer). Aside from Halo 5, I’ve loved all of the campaigns. I genuinely cannot wait to have this mind-bending novelty on a PS console.

I wanted MCC but this will be just fine, definitely a day one. It still feel surreal that this is happening, is even crazier that every new Halo game will come to PS.

@DennisReynolds what BS did they pull with the PS3? Sony made a bespoke state of the art console with a lot of tech. For the time considering inflation it was the best new PlayStation at launch. Now we get low medium cheaply built consoles. Sure the game lineup can be debated at the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out swinging harder but saying Sony pulled some BS is a stretch. PS2 sold for a while into the PS3 generation. So not like had to buy the state of the art PS3 if price was an obstacle.

With that nobody needs an xbox anymore. Oh well I always thought it was silly having three main home consoles on the market at the same time.

Sony could really play with us now and have good old chill, and Sony and Nintendo can hold hands a celebrate the profits. 🤣

I have my doubts that there are many PS gamers with a £60 to £80 desire to play these games, who wouldn't have just picked up an Xbox at a car boot sale to play it years ago.

If such players exist, I hope the release cadence of the Halo back-catalogue is at a higher rate than the FF7 games.

Ideally annual releases to catch them up quickly.

Would much rather a new entry in the Resistance franchise or even total remasters of the original trilogy. Halo and Gears are old hat now surely?

@DennisReynolds This lol. Its also clear, to those who dont frequent these sites, that games are going everywhere. I saved $500, being able to purchase Sony games on steam. Consoles will stick around, there importance wont, however.

@DennisReynolds Tbh I'm not sure Spider-Man would have had paid cosmetics, even if it was a fully multiplatform title. Games like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy weren't created with the intent of selling consoles, and yet they had zero microtransactions.

Likewise, people give a lot of flack to EA, but they often forget that the Star Wars Jedi games have zero microtransactions, as well. Most of the skins you can unlock in-game for free, just like Spider-Man.

The costumes thing, I think, really depends on the intent of the publisher and the developer. It has less to do with exclusivity imo.

Play your favourite consoles and their games and buying another. That is why you have exclusives to allure you to buy said product. Yes its great they put other games on another platform but there are reasons.

But I dont believe just throwing it all around is the right thing to do, Sony still need to make money where as Microsoft dont, they have far more money than Sony if Sony started doing yhis with all their games then people will just buy whatever they want which in theory hurts sales for Playstation.

However I am sure Xbox fans feel the same why feel the need to buy an Xbox when the games are going to Playstation?

Edit: you also said one console to play all games, who will make said console, also the fact is if you have only one you will lose innovation and both Xbox and Playstation controllers are different, youll lose out one way or another.

When I was younger I would love a console that could play all but as I got older I understood having two different consoles was also good for different reasons and not cos they cost alot to buy.

Microsoft aren't doing this because they're a benevolent force, they're doing it because they destroyed their own ecosystem, and need to recoup some of that 70 billion they splurged on ABK.

Them honking "all games on all systems" is thinly-veiled PR to save face. Sony and Nintendo (you know, the ones that sell the most consoles and games) have business models that are not compatible with what you want.

You mean like how currently Xbox consoles are the most expensive? And how they recently announced $80 games? And $30 monthly subscription tiers? And planning a $1200 console?

It’s always funny how some people warn us that Sony’s going to do all those things, when Xbox is doing it right now and no one seems to care. No, somehos Sony is the bad guy here, for something that might not even happen.

I’m all for hypotheticals, and while that might happen, i draw the line when people start preemptively judging Sony for something that hasnt happened yet. Right now its Xbox who’s giving less for more money, not the other way around.

People need to stop deflecting and judge companies on whats happenning now, not on what they imagine they might do some time in the future

But this console that houses all 3 companies is never going to exist. Who would make this console? What would be Nintendo’s incentive to give up its own platform for example? And if it were to exist, who do you propose would be the monopolistic owner of this company that housed all games? Nintendo? Sony?

Somehow i get the feeling that you think Microsoft would be a good fit 😉 tbf, they already know a lot about monopolies, having been found guilty of it in the past and all

At the end of the day it’s great other consoles are getting Xbox studios games to play and that’s a good thing.

At the end of the day you can play them on whatever system and pay how you wish, from cash to subscription.

@ButterySmooth30FPS got a PS5 for a couple of games finished them and got rid of that awfull controller, the old PS controllers where way better.

Xbox and Switch 2 are to me even better the stick on the d-pad location yes please.

@Lowdefal agreed. here in the states , the ps2 & GTA was much bigger than halo over here in my region. Many ppl still didn’t even know about xbox live back then or even had internet, myself included .

I haven't had an Xbox since they required players to make those silly avatars, which I think began during the 360 era.

I've always enjoyed PS exclusives more than Xbox exclusives. The only game I would care to play on Xbox is Starfield, which seems to be on its way to PS anyway.

Still, no denying that the first Xbox was amazing for its time.

Halo on Dreamcast is just a matter of time now.

@nomither6 halo 1 needed a remake though , i'm interested to see where it goes from here if they do the rest of the mcc or remake 2 and 3 next.

I only ever played 1 & 2 on the og Xbox back in the day. The rest of the series will be a new experience to me.

I do have friends who have "thoughts" on what 343 did with the series. Seems like a mutual feeling for a lot of the community.

i guess the only real game left is Fable , i'm guessing that will be announced soon , honestly a remake of the first one would be great too. i can't really think of anything else.

Ironically all this talk recently about Xbox leaving the console space made me really want a Series X again (cos if that’s gonna be their last traditional console, I want to be able to play all the games I’ve bought over the years) and I’m currently loving replaying Halo Infinite on my shiny new 2 TB galaxy black Xbox. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷‍♂️ Will have to buy Campaign Evolved on PS5 to play co-op though cos I ain’t paying for GP again.
