@nessisonett @Just_2_milky What am I missing? Who mentioned Gamefreak and what was the bizarre statement Hulst made? I can't find either in the article.
On the assumption that Hasan is telling the truth and Abandoned is an indie non-Kojima related game (not necessarily my belief), I have to feel bad for these guys. First time in the limelight like this - the pressure and stress must be immense. I've experienced something similar with a short film I directed - things went almost too well and suddenly I got action paralysis from being too afraid to f*ck it up.
That said, it was something they chose when they decided to court this attention with the Silent Hill teases. I'm sure in the end the game will perform better simply by virtue of all the exposure, but whether it will be worth the stress and inevitable backlash Hasan and his team will have to decide for themselves.
Would love. I've always adored the Majora's Mask esque sequels and feel like it's often a shame when a game takes so long to develop, engines and assets are made etc, and to only get one quickly playable story (though that doesn't really account for Ghost, which was huge and took me around a hundred hours to fully digest).
I think I often look forward to them even more than the mainline releases that precede them, probably because all the expectations are stripped away and I already know I'm going to enjoy them - there's less pressure to take in every moment.
It's like fridge pizza from the night before, a delicious bonus to eat at ones own leisure.
@theMEGAniggle I don't think it's important to specify. Bethesda softworks is the only subsidiary of any note and they, not Zenimax, are the publisher of games for Bethesda studios, Arkane, Machine games, ID etc. So why be vague?
I have to say people saying "this is how it's always been" are seriously downplaying the situation. This is unprecedented, make no mistake. When have Sony or Nintendo ever bought out an entire publisher and cancelled multiple versions of projects being developed on competing projects.
I'm not mad at Microsoft, they're just trying to improve their business, but I am disappointed in much of the games media and reporters (pushsquare exempt) that try to spin this as not being anti-consumer or somehow a good thing for gamers. This only detracts from the gaming world, and I would much rather have seen Microsoft increase their portfolio by adding to the landscape rather than just taking away as they seem to be doing. Bethesda were not a small studio that needed any more money for their projects and there are a lot of small ambitious studios who could have used the support more and gone on to make great exclusives for them.
The xbox isn't a better platform now for having Bethesda exclusivity, it will have the same games it would have had anyway, it is only better by comparison for having made Nintendo and Playstation libraries worse.
Man, looking at the list all out like this, it's amazing that there isn't even one game I'm really excited for. I'll give it to Sherlock Holmes Chapter One as the open world looks pretty nice to explore and it probably needs the vote.
EDIT: I needed to choose two more, so I gave them to Elden Ring and Atomic Heart.
I agree. I don't think there was much new or, for me, exciting (how many 4 player coop shooters can we get), but gamepass is a looming shadow. I'm a subscriber and it's been VERY dull of late, but it's hard to deny it's looking to step up a lot in the coming months. Sony needs something.
A Swery game set in a quaint English village? Sign me up. Very funny to see all these English villagers speaking flamboyant Japanese haha but I am 100% down for that, and I'm sure they can hire the cast of Midsomer Murders for the English dub.
@sanderson72 I think this is a silly non-point. We've already had PS5 exclusives and Ratchet is around the corner. Those games have been in development for years as well.
I am sold, but it's not a day one purchase for me - only after a discount (but that's the same for pretty much all games). I'm honestly still most hyped for Ratchet, but this is a close second.
Dude we've been getting shafted so much with these game prices lately ($70 does NOT equal £70) but this is something else. I am legit just gonna be buying old games or playing through plus if this upholds. There's a reason I've had a PS5 since launch and haven't bought a game for it yet, and it's not for lack of desire.
Nice one Stephen, love to see these. A shame about Returnal - I have the same feeling many of us have had about why it might struggle, but I won't say it because it seems to get some people up in arms and I'd rather we don't have the 'poor-shaming' enter this comment thread.
@Quintumply Ahh I hear you. Definitely recommend trying Challenge mode on some of the games if you enjoy the gameplay. You unlock crazy new weapons/upgrades and it's such a power trip. Should be a fun time on Rift Apart.
Haha I can tell your not a Ratchet veteran Stephen.
"Daly describes what sounds like a New Game Plus mode "We've got a challenge mode that lets you start from the beginning of the story again.."
Ratchet invented this, back in 2002, and challenge mode has been in every game since. A classic staple, It sounds like it will be the same as we've always had.
I'm lost for words. Background wallpapers are paid dlc?!? Invincibility mode? I would love to meet the strategist behind this and understand exactly where their head's at. This stinks like a cheap and poor product grasping at strings to make an extra buck from the handful of people who bother with it.
So I tried this and logged in, pretty stupid perhaps - seems Sony are now blocking my IP from accessing the store, all because I wanted to play Spongebob Squarepants The Movie The Game on my PS3. Be careful folks.
EDIT: Ok I cleared my cookies on Chrome and now it seems like it's back to normal, though I've already deleted the extension and won't be floppin around with it anymore. They didn't even have Spongebob in the PS2 classics section...pffft.
@Porco Couldn't agree with your comment more. I think it's a far 'safer' Sony we see today with reports like these. A few years ago Sony would have greenlit a Days Gone sequel in a heartbeat with the numbers it sold (I've read 4 million-ish).
I think it's an insult to Playstation to suggest that they've not changed. They're greenlighting a remake of The Last of Us over a sequel to a much fan loved and well selling IP, simply because the remake might sell a bit more? This is the most risk adverse version of this company by far, and honestly, it's far more boring.
@pip_muzz Absolutely. We're getting this but not Days Gone 2?!? Sony gone barmy. Even an Uncharted Drakes Fortune remake would have been a thousand times more exciting.
@IonMagi I only wonder how much opportunity he had though. He's in a demoted position in Sony to where he was (even if he is happy to be there). From how Sony's looking there are executives making decisions that subordinates have little say in or may not even know about. It's all conjecture, I know, but what else do we have?
Not that this isn't true, but having discovered his youtube channel over the last year after being a longtime fan of (some of) his games, Jaffe talks out of his bumhole
@IonMagi I think most fans realise that any form Sony takes will do some things we don't like for the sake of healthy business practice, but now we're getting all the bad and so much more
With Layden and Yoshida in higher positions it was a better Playstation. Not perfect, but far better.
@Col_McCafferty None of what you're saying is called for. People who aren't happy with a game being included should be able to voice that without being belittled.
I honestly have no idea why you're bringing politics into this either and calling people elitist tories in order to defend a multi-billion dollar company. And then to go from that rhetoric to a new defense that '£450 isn't expensive'.
It's all very confused and angry. Please tone it down.
While it should be free, I would honestly pay £100+ without question I am that desperate for this feature, just to be able to use my discs. I honestly want backwards compatibility more than any game. PS2 and PS3 mostly, and probably in that order.
Really been hoping for something like this to keep tabs on what's available. I think it's really cool to have a small portion of games available for PC players. I hope some games that didn't really get the time of day for whatever reason are ported too. I think if The Order 1886 re-released on Steam at a generous price ($10?) it might get a second look, and then we can enjoy lots of video essays on 'giving the order a second chance'. A lower price point could hugely change the popular opinion on what I think was a fine game.
Another great port would be Until Dawn, that's a dish of a game. PC players would eat it up!
I don't like all these big left field studio/publisher purchases going on but if there were one that would be good it would be Sony buying Konami's properties. It looks like Konami are just waiting at this point to be picked up and Sony are demonstrably far more invested in their properties than Konami are and they have a great relationship with Kojima. I also think them releasing games on PC is a good indicator that they might do the same with Silent Hill, MGS, Castlevania - good for everybody.
I would love to see this happen and Kojima return to do an MGSV Extended edition with Chapter 3, it's the only way I could see it happening at this point.
@Hyperluminal @Liamcroft I read it as a joke, it was obviously written with humorous intention. I didn't know whether or not it reflected their views, but I could tell the point was to make me laugh.
I get how Liam perceived it though, it could easily be considered a snarky joke in the gaming climate we're in.
Either way, we all brothers here in the PlayStation nation!
I am starting Fable Anniversary on game pass for the first time for a bit of light playing on my Xbox as I'll also be playing Ghost of Tsushima and Crash Team Racing Nitro Fuelled on my PS5.
Best month ever! Concrete Genie was my next purchase, I love these off beat PS studios games. Destruction All stars is obviously hype. Control PS4 and PS5 is amazing with all the expansions, especially if you were miffed about not getting the free upgrade as an early adopter.
YES! I'm actually really looking forward to trying this. SO glad to have the first proper new console year be fullof platformers!
Ratchet, Kena, Balan, It takes two and most exciting of all, the promise of an as yet unannounced Spyro!
