Death Stranding Director's Cut Coming to PS5 Soon

With the way the trailer was going I was honestly waiting for Snake to walk into the frame while Sam was chilling in the box

That whole trailer seemed very intentionally framed like an MGS homage

So glad I held off buying this on PS4. Depending on price, I’ll definitely be playing Death Stranding on PS5… at some point!

Wasn't the base game itself already enough of a Director's Cut? Not hating Kojimbo, top lad and all, but this seems like overkill.

About time. Been waiting for this to be announced for ages. Death Stranding is one of my favourite ps4 exclusives of last gen. Can't wait to replay it.

@Golem25 I absolutely loved every minute of it. Not sure I could play it again though.

I know its a divisive game but I really enjoyed that game on PS4 and its one of my favourite platinum trophies. I might have to double dip and go again on PS5.

The trailer was a MGS homage if there ever was one, down to the oranges (Snake's cardboard box was for oranges in the west, mikans (tangerines) in JP)

Loved loved loved the game when I played it a couple years ago. That said it did drag in certain areas, and I didn't feel like the game needed more length.

Edit: Should say that if there is an upgrade path to get the ps5 enhancements plus the directors cut version, I'm in!!

I would love for this to be a free upgrade but most likely not gonna be.

Suppose I'm asking too much for a free upgrade ,price reduction would be nice

Death Stranding is one of the greatest games of all time. I don't think I can play it again anytime soon though. I really can't. It's amazing, but it's not easy to just pick up and replay.

Enhanced with more content? Imma go stand under timefall so maybe it comes sooner

Loved playing a futuristic Postman Pat but not sure about completing it again any time soon.

I hope it's cross buy. Got the disc sitting around, but keep getting pre-empted by limited time PS Now games.

And if it's cross buy, I hope it supports save transfer from PS5 to PS4. I'd rather play the PS5 version and autopop all the PS4 trophies than the other way around.

This game genuinely bored the hell out of me.

The upgrade could totally add to the game. 3D audio and the DualSense things especially.

I'm still waiting for the Super Duper Mega Turbo Side Quest Simulator Tournament Edition of Death Stranding. My apologies for a poor attempt at humor, but aside from gorgeous graphics and good online functionality, DS is a dud of a game.

Not sure how I feel.about this. I bought the game on PS4 despite some.of.the negative feedback, really enjoyed it warts and all, watched as PC gamers receive a superior version and then hoped that one day I'd be able to replay it on a PS5 with upgrades on place. The original PS4 copy that is.

Oh well, thanks Kohima. A 'parting gift' perhaps before taking his next game to Xbox?

I'm interested on what they'll add for the game. I wasn't too big on Death Stranding but this trailer enough gave me a big ibterest on trying the game again once the Director's Cut gets released.

Not gonna lie I legit thought they were gonna announce the rumored MGS remake by BluePoint right after.

I love Death Stranding, I will absolutely buy + replay on PS5, but this trailer video was dumb. The oranges and the box, these are insider jokes for long time Kojima fans.

So what is the difference between PS4 version and this one to justify double dipping? 🤔🤔

@JapaneseSonic This game is definitely not for everyone, from the sony previews I though it's like stealth action games with metal gear solid mixed with horror, but what we got is...different.

I still like it (got the steelbook version), I still want to play it with dualsense (I think the game is made for it), but I still want kojima to make that metal gear solid like stealth horror games.

Just like tlou2, I think sony is not 100% honest with this game previews, from all the previews it looks like action stealth game with that cool flesh tank and world war 1 enemy soldiers, I can imagine some people buy it and surprised because there's so much walking in this game lol.

@JapaneseSonic and I love both. Played them at the same time last year although Death Stranding took a lot longer to finish.

200hrs+ and I'd do it all again as the story is absolutely beautiful.

I love Kojima, but Death Stranding is by a country mile my least favorite game from him. So this a hard pass for me sadly.

Will be totally up for this. The landscapes and that soundtrack...awesome! Plus those adaptive triggers are surely made for this.

I just started playing Death Stranding on PS5, but had to stop for the new Ratchet & Clank. I'll pick it back up eventually, maybe via this new version if my save works.

@Peach64 I doubt Kojima bank rolled the entire project himself. If there wasn't enough money to keep going they may have to cut some stuff, and now that they have more cash can revisit it for a director's cut.

More realistic answer is that Kojima is a big film fan so is calling it a director's cut rather than GOTY or definitive or gold or ultimate or special or remastered or whatever other non-standardized buzzword other companies use.

Damn, my roads and repeller lines are probably rust spots on the snow.

I really hope there's an upgrade path for PS4 owners.

Hard to believe that the massively weird and indulgent original wasnt a directors cut. A game I hated at first but kinda grew to love and saw me through a hundred hours of lockdown and the first game I ever intentionally platinum trophied. Not sure if Id be down for it all again though.

Kojima and it´s one more thing.
Death Stranding was brilliant, not perfect, but brilliant still.

I hope this takes the same approach Square Enix took with Final Fantasy VII Remake - give current PS4 owners a free upgrade to the base game content with a $20 fee to unlock the new content.

I really loved this game (and I lost my completed save file, so a replay is warranted); but I don't think I would pay full price for it again.

Hideo and Konami need to make up and collaborate for another Metal Gear game, either that or Konami need to start more games on their own, I need more metal gear.

It’s pathetic that you still can’t play most Metal Gear games on PS4 or 5, I haven’t played through any besides 5 and Survive in 6 years, I definitely feel the urge to play through again but in order to do so I would have to find and dust off my ps3 which is pathetic. Release the legacy edition on PS5 and I will pay money for it day one, I’m sure it’s the same with a million other people.

Death Stranding isn’t my thing at all so that trailer was just flat out cruel.

Hope the progress from PS4 version will transfer to this. I left it in the trophy cleanup stage…

@mrmartinrohr I’d debating whether I’d want this or not since I do want to replay the game…one of the few games I would consider replaying bc of how unique it was.

This is interesting. I passed on this game cause the reviews said it was a walking simulator.
If it's chamged to more stealthy and less walking simulator i might give it a go.

@Janeo99 Well... 2 and 3 are on the Vita. Maybe the first too through the ps1 classics. Best you can get atm, unless you go for ps3.

Don't hope for Konami to do much though.
