@theMEGAniggle It wasn't discounted, no. Unless you got the special editions I don't think you're remembering correctly as that wasn't the retail price anywhere. Some media outlets list the launch retail price when they review games. You can see in the Wired article for AC Syndicate it was £49.99 at launch and in the Metro review for Spiderman it was £54.99.
I think this comprises a significant price hike and that's why people are getting whiplash from it and games that don't have AAA levels of hype like Returnal will likely suffer.
I think it would make real sense to show Returnal, Destruction All Stars and Kena in a state of Play in February as they're all some form of exclusive (console exclusive for Kena) releasing in February and March and we haven't seen gameplay demos for any of them, just trailers.
Sprinkle in a few minor surprises (Sunset Overdrive or Alan Wake remasters please) and some indie game trailers and you have a winner!
@theMEGAniggle No it was definitely £50 at launch. I checked the receipt, I picked it up from a Tesco Express while I was in my final year at uni. Games here have never been £60 at launch. For a while the retail price has been £54.99 though I've never seen retailers actually sell them at that price (except GAME).
I'm excited, but I'm starting to feel like I'm hearing the same information over and over at this point. Really hoping for a state of play soon to get a deeper dive into it instead of just re-watching 5 second clips from the Housecast. Hopefully won't be waiting too long.
@get2sammyb I see this is the perfect opportunity to create seperate trophy lists for Hitman 1 and 2 with platinums. It would help incentivise people to play through these semi-remastered versions.
I've yet to buy the first game and am planning to play it this year. If there are no trophies for playing the levels through Hitman 3, I'll just play the OG versions. I'm a trophy hunter after all.
Still, if that is the case, it would be a majorly wasted opportunity.
Do you think maybe it's time we revise the term 'exclusive' to primarily mean 'Console exclusive', and specify when we mean otherwise?
The meaning used here would imply that XBOX doesn't have any new exclusives, which seems like a disingenuous claim to make as I think the reason we review exclusive game libraries is to examine how games console libraries are poised in comparison to their competitors, which are other game consoles.
PC is an open source platform and as sure as the sun will set everything will make it's way to there, either by official release or emulation, so I don't think excluding those games that came to PC either at the time of release or simultaneously at launch accomplishes much at all.
TLDR; I would have liked to see Horizon and Death Stranding on the ballot.
This game looks fantastic and genuinely unique, but - to add to a repeated sentiment - it's dead on arrival at £70. We saw this with The Order 1886, a game I'm sure would have been much better received at more modest price point. I bought it a few months after release for £20 and LOVED it, but the damage was done and it never got a sequel. Unfortunately the best I'm hoping for is that this will be a lesson for Sony that will benefit future releases. That and a blast to play after a price cut.
I wish I could play it- Astro's Playroom was right up my cobbled alley - but PSVR isn't an option for me right now. I'll likely get PSVR 2 when it's eventually released and enjoy the VR games I've been keeping an eye on, like Blood and Truth and this. In an ideal world there could even be a 'deluxe edition' that runs at a higher resolution and uses the Dualsense like Playroom did.
Honestly I'm super happy with the results just a little sad that Dreams got almost no recognition. I know that's largely due to Sony being too quiet about it but I think those who played it realised how phenomenal it was and the critic reception shows that.
A lot of people are saying that Ghost only won because of TLOU2 hate mob but lets not forget it was already edging out The Last of Us before they got going and it is the highest user rated game on Metacritic of the year (and almost of all time). I voted for TLOU2 but very happy Ghost won, a terrific game with incredible dev support.
@get2sammyb I'd like to see real investment in big name talent from the region. Sure they have a lot of 3rd party partnerships and relationships when it comes to long established brands, but with the recent departures from Studio Japan who have been responsible for quality series which now have bleak looking futures (Gravity Rush, Puppeteer, Team ICO games) there's nothing on the horizon for Sony in Japan (aside from GT7 which looks great but is racing fan specific and not exactly new).
When you look at WWS, Japan is greatly under-represented these days and not very exciting. Making some high profile additions and announcing exciting new projects with real financial backing for Studio Japan would go a long way to reinvigorating interest. Maybe founding a new studio there too would be great, otherwise we're left with a quality but increasingly less diverse portfolio of western studios and games from Sony.
The last of us 2 has been my favourite game in a very long time. I really hope it gets the praise it deserves and a bit of vindication in the face of so much vitriolic and dumb hate (as well as small minority of good faith criticism - I know for some of you it just wasn't your cup of tea).
I see some people saying on Twitter that TGA will give GOTY to TLOU2 in order to avoid backlash from 'culture warriors'. Surely with the colossal horde of anti SJW zombies swarming any bit of praise for the game it's clear they would do the opposite to avoid backlash. Either way I have optimistic faith that it won't impact the panels decision.
@theheadofabroom I think it's a different sitution with Bugsnax as you're only getting the PS5 version (not the PS4 version) that won't run on PS4. With the collection you're getting PS4 versions of the games (none have PS5 versions) so they can work on PS4 consoles.
Am I crazy? I'm not really seeing much wrong here. I never played the original so maybe I need to look at comparisons, but nothing I've seen bothers me.
EDIT: I also really like the goofy death animations. The way the guard just slowly slumps onto the floor after being hit with the throwing knife.
PS4 owners are still getting a sweet deal with Sackboy, Miles Morales and Horizon. I'm getting a PS5 at launch, but if I wasn't I'd still be buzzing for those games.
@Medic_Alert 100% this. If you could do a feature playing some PS4 games (Uncharted, God of War, Death Stranding etc.) I would watch it in a heartbeat.
Also interested in external HDD/SSD compatibility for PS4 games. Does it affect improvements (other than obvious slower load times)? If there's a 'quick resume' esque feature, is it compatible with games running off external HDD?
And a speed comparison between external SSD and HDDs for PS4 games!
@Rudy_Manchego Yo I just bought that collection from CEX after waiting for it to turn up. I love Ready at Dawn's God of War games. Shame Sony dropped them after The Order (which for my money was also great).

@dannybuoy This is not the result of inflation. it's a company driven price hike.

@theMEGAniggle Red Dead Redemption 2 was only £50 at launch.

Just give us a bloody PS4/5 remaster collection Sony. 2, 3 and Mercenary would be great. Throw the fanbase a bone even if you checking out.
