PS5 Spin-Off God of War: Sons of Sparta Was a Big Hit for Sony 1

Here’s some proof that not everything Sony publishes needs to have a nine figure budget, as side-scrolling spin-off God of War: Sons of Sparta has quietly been a big success.

The Mega Cat Studios-developed Metroidvania, which was shadow dropped during a State of Play, quietly appeared in 14th position in February 2026’s Circana sales report. It was sixth in the PlayStation-specific top ten.

It’s important to note that these charts are organised based on revenue rather than units sold, so the platformer really punched above its weight here.

The game launched at just $29.99, so that means it had to sell double the number of copies of some of the titles it finished above, like fellow new release My Hero Academia: All’s Justice, which costs $59.99.

It proves there is a market for smaller scale, first-party projects from PlayStation. Yes, there’s been some debate about the overall quality of Sons of Sparta – plenty love it, others think it’s disappointing – but project as a whole has been a big success.

More like this please, Sony.
