It's still my favourite game to this day. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but the things it does well like the atmosphere, music, voice acting, narrative, quest variety, map/art design make it top tier for me. Certain aspects have aged somewhat but they're mostly tolerable if you want to enjoy what is objectively one of the best games ever made.
@GirlVersusGame I really believe it could happen, we've recently had Mad Max, Terminator, RoboCop, a few Aliens games....there is a market for these brilliant old franchises and word of mouth has perhaps helped them enjoy even more success. The Dredd film is one of my favourite action films of the last few decades, up there with Fury Road. Fingers crossed!
It saddens me to hear about the plight of Outlaws. It's an objectively good game weighed down by expectations and outright apathy toward Ubisoft. I have tired of many of their franchises over the years but as an old school Star Wars fan I waited for Outlaws to be patched numerous times and go on sale and.... it's a very decent game in my opinion. I think current standards are so high among a few developers in the gaming industry that it's fueling an unnecessarily negative perspective on many other games like Outlaws which in years gone by would be considered excellent. It looks pretty damn amazing, the attention to detail for a Star Wars fan is perhaps unrivalled by any other Star Wars game and although basic mechanically, it has a decent story, good voice acting and is what games should be - fun. I know I'm not alone here. Any Star Wars fans bashing it without having played it are missing out. It's a Star Wars game I've always wanted.
Can we say gamers are 'asking for' rather than 'demanding'? Too many articles make us collectively sound like a right bunch of entitled petulant brats. Don't paint us all with one brush.
@heavyartillery56 interesting how you mention Democrats taking credit. Statistics/metrics going back decades and decades prove (unless you subscribe to Fox News) that Republican administrations have primarily stagnated the economy and ballooned the budget deficit. Each Democratic administration has barely had time to fix before the next GOP assault on everyday Americans including those that vote for them. As much as I despise the white and wealthy disposition of this cult of Trump, I do understand the desire to improve so called fairness in international trade but things are moving far too quickly and will hurt/kill a lot of people all over the world. That makes this version of America First a truly dystopian and dangerous new territory. It's quite fitting that a lot of blame can be placed at the feet of an Australian media mogul and now a South African megalomaniac. The American dream. Power/wealth at the cost of a human soul.
@BiosNova Businesses absolutely should pass on these costs to the consumer - maybe those in America persistently brainwashed will eventually hurt enough to see the truth. It's even worse having to live here - a significant minority continue to vote for a cult that couldn't care less about them - unless they are extremely wealthy. I often wonder how the US and world at large would be doing if we'd had several decades of a Western European form of democratic socialism. Yes the economy wouldn't be as big but big doesn't mean strong and at least it would work for most people. The quality of life might even become closer to Europe/Canada/Australia.
@InsertUsername critical thinking skills help ascertain whether information is credible or not. It's not fool proof of course and it can be frustrating to see stories and information spun on both sides of the political spectrum (I'm not on the fence here, the so called 'conservative right' in the US for example is a persistent cess pool of misinformation, gaslighting and lies but I digress). Critical thinking is a good start for any civil and/or opinionated discourse but many people either seem incapable or unwilling to take the time necessary, instead opting for instant knee jerk and emotive reactions based on existing beliefs, echo chambers and information they're fed by the sheer amount of fear mongering, hate spreading nonsense that masquerades as legitimate news or media. You're absolutely right about certain media (sadly including PS here) instigating a lot of these situations but many articles are merely discussing or reviewing an episode - with an open comments section, the unevolved basement dwellers still show up in huge numbers.
Critics review scores and the continued huge audience suggests these fringe opinions don't matter at all. If you don't enjoy something then don't play/watch it. And surely you've got better things to do with your time than whine about it online. Ugh. Take me back to the 80'/90's when it wasn't so apparent that too many of us are so relentlessly negative on life.
Active Gamepass subscribers on February 2024 - 34 million. It's been on a roll as of late so safe to assume this number has increased slightly. I jump in and out on PC Gamepass depending the new titles available.
@GirlVersusGame I'm sure you've tried everything at this point but just in case - what really got me hooked on VR/mods etc was snap turning as any motion sickness I had previously (and it was bad!) completely disappeared. I've made it through Asgaards Wrath 2, Batman Arkham Shadow and mods for Alien Isolation and Ready or Not with no motion sickness at all. Locomotion is still smooth but that turning changed everything.
@lazarus11 this is what I'm hoping for. I haven't bought it yet, still waiting for any final patches for PCVR or Quest 3. I'd like to buy it where both versions are playable.
Very happy with this development decision. I'm fine with open world settings if they are dense, rich and rewarding like Witcher 3 for example. Too many are bloated in size, ultra repetitive or sparse with unimaginative structure and 'level' design.
@OldGamer999 that's a good prediction..I hope for my Pro owning friends sake it's true. I'm either holding out for PC or capitulating to Rockstar's greed and settling for 30fps on the base PS5. In an ideal world I'd get it crossbuy for Series X and PC!
@OldGamer999 absolutely. I think we're stuck in a new loop where many games simply take longer to develop. Longer development cycles equals more expense. It's going to become common to see only one major AAA game from a single developer per generation. Rockstar were among the first to be in this position.
@LifeGirl games invariably look better toward the end of a cycle. That's just the way it is unfortunately. I don't know what the answer is - get dev kits out sooner perhaps? Realistically we won't see what a console is capable of until half way through a generation as the best looking games are likely taking longer to develop and on larger budgets.
@OldGamer999 I do think the next generation of console hardware could be a game changer if it utilizes AI machine learning to upscale fidelity and generate frames like Nvidia has been doing for several generations of GPUs now. PS5 Pro is currently testing the water. If this technology can be affordably integrated into consoles then we'd never see 30fps again.
The vast majority of us have only played Rockstar games at 30fps. Most console gamers are still very much used to 30fps. This won't be an issue whatsoever in terms of player engagement and popularity. Personally I really want to try and hold out for the PC version now I have a 50 series GPU but that's more easily said than done!
I appreciated previous GTA games in terms of their cultural/satirical accuracy from having seen Hollywood films and a few brief trips to those real cities. After living in Florida for eight years I can safely say GTA 6 absolutely nails it all again. Please let PC be closer behind console release this time!
I almost pulled the trigger on a PS5 Pro yesterday but instead opted for a new PC GPU at $75 markup on MSRP - I'm sure they're going to become even more inflated soon too.
I wish Ubisoft/EA etc could have this sort of integrity. I'm always tempted by their dlc if I like the main campaign but I'll never pay extra for it, let alone 60% of the cost of a new game. Thankfully most sound like cash grabbing afterthoughts. The Witcher 3 is still the standard bearer in my limited opinion.
I didn't bother with the original release due to the review consensus and technical issues. I then played through it on PS plus via backwards compatibility when the PS5 came out and... it's a good game - especially if you enjoy the genre in general. Anyone hyper critical or waving it off altogether simply isn't into this genre. Reviews should always mention who the target audience is, then score with that in mind (as well as technical, narrative, structure etc). 8.5/10 for me.
@Mergatro1d this comment might have sold me on it. I actively avoid turn based combat games, especially the Japanese ones. I find the screen clogging damage numbers goofy and off putting BUT, I just had to try Baldurs Gate 3 and it's just incredible. This might be next!
Solid 9 for this huge Indy fan! I loved the light immersive sim elements that set it apart from Uncharted and Tomb Raider - it's very much it's own thing. The recreations of the Vatican and Giza were superb and the whole package including the excellent voice acting just felt like you were playing something that has the quality of the original trilogy. As a video game it can't quite hit the perfect 10 which should be reserved for genre/generational classics.
My most anticipated game of the year along with Death Stranding 2 (and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 once I finish the first). Still interested in GTA 6 (having lived in Florida) but I just can't see it having it's usual satirical edge considering how insane America is becoming.
Those cons are why I stopped playing within an hour on its original release. It also has a rubber band AI issue as mentioned in the following critique:
@GirlVersusGame Doorkickers 1+2 are both amazing too and very much in the same vein however these are better played with a mouse imo. Would be great to see them on console too and they have meaty solo and co-op options.
@Frmknst if the console version includes the six dlc maps, then I'd say the overall content, fun you'll have with friends (or tense solo) and with replayability taken into account, $49.99 is well worth it compared to a lot of games. Saying that, I got it on sale and it'll likely do the same on console from time to time.
This game is brilliant, I've been hammering it with friends on Steam. Everything an old school Rainbow Six and SWAT fan could ask for and by a relatively small studio too. Early bugs are mostly patched out, there is plenty of content and each mission is refreshingly well realized and detailed. It's not for the faint of heart in terms of subject matter so be warned. It's good in single player as you have four guys with you who you can control as a single team or two teams of two at any given time. Multiplayer with friends is where it's at though. It can be tense or hilarious and frequently both. Definitely a good move to finally bring it to consoles.
@Czar_Khastik HA. On a serious and nostalgic note, young gamers today will never know the magic of four friends crowded round that same 14" TV with it then sectioned off into 5 /6 inch squares for multiplayer GoldenEye! Good thing the N64 cords were short I suppose!
Marathon is 'never say never' for me. I don't do much multiplayer gaming anymore but Helldivers 2 was a revelation in how much fun it is with a few friends - the best multiplayer time I've had since Warzone during the pandemic lockdowns (I just downloaded Warzone for the first time in years now Verdansk is back for a nostalgic reunion with pals in Europe). I respect Bungie's generally top tier mechanics but I never got into Destiny. I'll reserve judgement for Marathon a few weeks after release.
@nomither6 New York City - it was 30f this morning - almost mid April! I've previously lived in Florida/Georgia and enjoyed the earlier balmy spring breaks. No not the debaucherous student ones!
@get2sammyb that last sentence is a depressingly realistic assumption.
Personally I won't be spending that much on a game. They go on sale relatively fast, especially on Steam. If I was 21 and playing Call of Duty with my mates every night then I wouldn't think twice about it. Nowadays, backlog is the name of the game so I can wait for a GTA 6 price drop just like I do for every other big launch.
The cost of Mario Kart (which will now become industry standard for supposed AAA) merely reinforced my decision to move away from console. Invest the money now in a solid PC and you'll never look back. A handful of exclusives over an entire generation is no reason to buy a console. The competition between storefronts despite Steams overall dominance plus the frequent and steep discounts means I've likely bought my last console. Only took 4 decades of gaming! Plus VR is massively underrated and quite excellent.
@Greifchen definitely not true. Rockstar was never at the cutting edge of game tech - impressive as previous GTA titles were, you could frequently find better graphics and mechanics etc in other titles. What's impressive with GTA are the little details and immersion factor for a game of it's scale relating to American culture in the various fictionalized settings. In this regard it's unparalleled.
I'm very curious to see how GTA 6 navigates the current heightened state of idiocy and insanity in America. Considering the long development period I think this game will be outdated on release which is a shame as for me it is GTA's best aspect - it's biting satire of American culture.
I'd at least appreciate a PC release window or performance expectations on PS5 Pro so I can prepare accordingly. I'm not playing it until there is a 60fps option nonetheless - it's 2025 after all.
