There’s a sentiment among some fans that GTA 6’s recent trailer may simply be too good to be true. We’ve played some amazing looking software on the PS5 this generation, but Rockstar’s latest looks lightyears beyond practically everything else out there.
It seems the legendary developer has heard your scepticism, and it’s moved to assuage any doubt: this is the real deal, running on a standard PS5 – not the more powerful PS5 Pro. Furthermore, writing on X (or Twitter) it’s added that the trailer comprises a mixture of cutscenes and gameplay.
We’re obviously not doubting Rockstar’s comments here, but we think the gameplay aspects are probably quite light, like perhaps at the start of the trailer when Jason enters his beach house, that’s probably showing a transition from cutscene to gameplay. It’s still impressive stuff, of course.
A new analysis from Digital Foundry pours praise on the game, but does bring us back down to earth. Its pixel counting pegs the title at around 1440p, with a mixture of ray-tracing and screen space reflections on display. While it’s overwhelmingly positive, the tech experts do pull up some rendering flaws, like some missing shadows, which actually helps make the whole thing seem more legitimate.
