PS4 game The Order 1886 was originally planned as the first entry in a trilogy containing The Order 1891 and The Order 1899, a member of the Ready at Dawn development team has revealed.
In an interview with YouTuber Julien Chièze (via VGC), former creative director of the now-closed studio Ru Weerasuriya shared the team's original plans. After the first game, he said a 10-page pitch for the sequel was written that touched on bigger combat encounters and the inclusion of multiplayer. This follow-up apparently made it to the very early stages of development, but was cancelled.
As for the third title, Weerasuriya explained he had drafted plans for where the franchise would go and even went as far as to write stories where the IP is based in the 20th century.
Ready at Dawn never got the chance to turn The Order 1886 into a full series, as Weerasuriya agrees with comments made by one of the developer's co-founders, Andrea Pessino, that the poor launch reviews killed the chances of a big follow-up being made.
Earlier this year, Pessino spoke of the "critical reception" being the reason why the game never received a sequel. "Sony is a very proud group and rightfully so, and the critical reception, if it had even been just in the 70s, we would have had the sequel, I'm convinced. Just a few points more and it would have been okay." The average score on Metacritic landed on a 63, with a slightly higher user score of 6.8.
