Re: PS5 Officially Outsells PS3, Now at 92.2 Million Units

16BitHero

@Czar_Khastik after owning PS1 and PS2, I jumped ship to Xbox 360 which I think was the better ecosystem for the first two thirds of that particular generation. Then, with The Last of Us, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Uncharted 1-3, Shadow of the Colossus/Ico remasters, Infamous 1+2, Killzone 2+3, Resistance 1+2 - I just had to grab a PS3 for the final third of that generation. Also the controller was so much better for Pro Evo Soccer.

Edit: totally forgot GOW 3/Ascension! Probably the best PS generation for games if not overall sales.

Re: 'We've Got Much More in Store': Legendary DOOM Developer id Software Celebrates 35th Anniversary

16BitHero

I don't play these games for the story. Each of the modern three entries has felt distinct enough to freshen things up each time and no other FPS - PvE or PvP gives you the same sort of adrenalin rush Doom can.

On second thought, maybe when you and your mates are hiding in a house that's being stormed by another team in Warzone (and you've got crap guns because you were too wimpy to go looting elsewhere).

Re: Larian CEO Swen Vincke Sticks His Foot in It Again, Thinks Game Reviewers Should Also Be Reviewed

16BitHero

First of all, it's really easy to ignore social media - providing you're not hopelessly addicted to tech based dopamine. Opinionated trolls and online abuse are sadly part of our society and with zero social media regulation in sight, very much here to stay. If you're a celebrity of any kind, athlete, musician, actor or publicly contactable like a game developer, just ignore the noise, you'll be happier in life for it.

Edit: as mentioned in comments below one - if you have a public platform like Sven, think before you type.

Second 'making a game deserves respect'.
Not in all cases. Many talentless developers are churning out rubbish for a quick buck.

Re: Larian Games Doing Better Than Ever Off the Back of Divinity Reveal

16BitHero

I've been gaming since the mid 80's - we had some cracking games then and through the 90's, some of which I still emulate to this day but the 2010's/20's have offered some truly compelling narrative adventures. I'll always be a gamer but you have to be discerning with your choices considering both the volume of games available to us - and of course the time required to complete many of them. Hopefully I can take early retirement!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 616

16BitHero

I'm going to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 VR before I accidentally let it update and the incredible VR mod is removed (CDPR indulging in the same capitalist nonsense as Take 2).

Original plan was to play the Indiana Jones dlc on my friend donated OLED monitor but I'm missing the power supply doh!

I then decided to continue with the engrossing Death Stranding 2 but have instead been going through Baldur's Gate 3 again in co-op - such an incredible game.

Re: Sony Needs to Move Mountains to Get Samson: A Tyndalston Story on PS5

16BitHero

@SMJ Same. I even bought it twice when the Series X boosted the fps to 60. The Arkham style combat although not particularly deep, was always crunchy and satisfying. The vehicle combat was fantastic, especially once you had certain upgrades. The visuals and environment still look excellent to this day - I was thinking how good the skybox looks compared to the much newer Avatar game. There are some really good critiques on YouTube if you want to reminisce without another playthrough!

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

16BitHero

The story is the whimsical French at their best - fantastic writing and voice acting (in French and English) but the relatively linear and empty world made it more of a narrative action adventure game than an RPG for me. I personally thought Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Death Stranding 2 were better overall games and my favourite this year (albeit an older game) was Banishers Ghosts of New Eden but E33 was an incredible debut that clearly captured the hearts and minds of most gamers this year. You can't say it's not deserved based on that consensus.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5 Story Game of 2025

16BitHero

@AhmadSumadi I second this opinion! I came to it late but what a criminally overlooked game! I liked the story better than E33 although both are excellent for the medium. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was also better in my opinion. I still have Death Stranding 2, Dispatch and Yotei in the backlog. What a year.

Re: Terminator Survivors Delayed Indefinitely, Drops Co-Op Multiplayer

16BitHero

@Killionaire I enjoy Arc Raiders with a friend or two but solo is usually less frantic and more friendly from a PVP perspective. Strangers can be kind. It really reminds me of the 'future' in Terminator. Humans could stick together or not... I like the world they've built but I think a good solo only narrative experience is what I want from an open world Terminator survival game. Just my opinion though!

Re: All The Game Awards 2025 Winners

16BitHero

I didn't finish Clair Obscur due to the combat (just not for me) but I made it over ten hours in and having played many of the other nominated games and more this year, I can safely say Expedition 33 thoroughly deserved most of those awards. Congrats to the devs.

I would have given best RPG to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 as it is, well, much more of an RPG.

Sound design should have gone to 'the not even nominated' Arc Raiders instead of Battlefield 6. Otherwise, worthy winners in most categories.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate Cyberpunk 2077, 5 Years Later?

16BitHero

Objectively one of the best games of all time in my opinion. The level of immersion is fantastic and the state of the game has finally got to where it deserves to be considered an all time classic.

I had it pre ordered on PS4 but never touched it after the initial reviews - then came the free PS5 upgrade. I finished the main campaign then waited patiently again (for years) to start over with Phantom Liberty on a beefy PC and oh my is this game gorgeous! Last week I started a new playthrough with the Luke Ross VR mod and can safely say this is the best way to play - just mind blowing. If VR wasn't still relatively niche, I think we'd see more AAA and AA with VR options. Indiana Jones comes to mind with another terrific VR option.

Anyway, Cyberpunk is a top ten all time game for me personally and I started gaming in the 1980's.

Re: Poll: Five Years of PS5 - How Would You Rate Sony's Console?

16BitHero

@nessisonett I agree with this to some extent but, one thing that sticks out in my mind is how long these first party AAA titles take to develop these days. The cycles are significantly longer than PS4 let alone PS2. Look at Rockstar for a third party example. If console generations continue along a similar timeline then this issue will only become more frustrating for some gamers. I'm not sure what the answer is but I've been very satisfied with this generation all things considered.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (PS5) - The Most Absurd Game in Series History

16BitHero

I'm not sure whether the current development teams are just not very good or their corporate overlords are making bad decisions. Could be both I suppose. Either way they'll be forced into a rethink with the amount of competition finally stifling sales. I don't know why anyone on Xbox or PC would buy this mediocre product if they have Gamepass but for the multiplayer die hards it'll always be good value.

It's frustrating because the mechanics in COD have always been fairly solid and up there with the best in the genre. If they could just manage a good campaign with a coherent story, interesting characters you actually care about somewhat, properly implemented AI and lasting say, eight to fifteen hours - I and many others might consider buying it again.

Re: 'Morale in the Studio Is at Rock Bottom': Rockstar Whistleblower Alleges Union Busting as GTA 6 Is Delayed

16BitHero

Sheesh, I know the US has virtually no worker protections outside of a small percentage of established unions such as my own but the UK... same old story no matter what aspect of society or where in the world you're looking. The big fish prevails. A French style revolution on a global scale will be needed to stop our future selves living in the smog at the bottom of Night City.

Re: GTA London Will Remain a One-Off, as the Series Needs Guns and American Culture, Says Dan Houser

16BitHero

America is perfect for GTA. America is the real world's freak show. Surreal in so many aspects. In 2025 it's really next level. A prequel to Idiocracy. The world's most robust economy yet high levels of poverty, a high ratio of people on food stamps, bankruptcy by healthcare, the poorest health outcomes and now a dysfunctional backsliding version of democracy... the list goes on and on.

The US has larger than life characters and is inspiration for all matter of TV, film and gaming media because it practically doesn't need satirizing. Just read/watch local news in any state on any given day. You'll see something insane.

As a Brit who lives in the US I fully agree this series should remain here. London might have it's issues like any big city but it's night and day from what NYC (one of the safest cities in the US) is to people who actually live here. There is no comparison.

The US is a developed country only in relation to giant, low taxed, unregulated corporations propping up it's economy/GDP.

Its absolutely perfect for GTA.

Re: Talking Point: If Xbox Drops the Cost, Would You Be Happy Still Paying for PS6 Multiplayer?

16BitHero

It really comes down to where your friends are playing and what hardware you own. I might get a PS6 but multiplayer has been PC only for me since I finally built one a few years ago. Most multiplayer games are multiplatform so I'm not going to pay for no reason. Some folks will stay on the PS ecosystem and may not have a choice but compared to many of our entertainment expenses nowadays, it's still worth it for those folks in my opinion.

Re: Rumour: Halo 2, Halo 3 Remakes Also Purportedly Planned for PS5

16BitHero

Without multiplayer they should all be lower priced imo. I'll get them on Gamepass anyway but for other gamers, I think $29.99 would be fair or just stick them in a bundle like an updated Master chief collection. I'm all for these full remakes opposed to rubbish remasters but in a gaming world of plenty, I think they would reach more people at lower prices.

Re: Review in Progress: Battlefield 6 (PS5) - You Won't Be Buying This One for the Campaign

16BitHero

The older I get, the less interested I am in mindless multiplayer. I love a good fps campaign but we've had slim pickings with only Doom, Wolfenstein, Halo, Farcry Titanfall, Metro and a few others doing it for me in the last ten years. The cinematic and bombastic COD campaigns were fresh in 2009 but always lacked a sense of progression which is kinda key for many video games not to mention they have poor/predictable/repetitive AI.

I was hoping for a return to form a la Bad Company only with contemporary production values but the money is in the MP these days.

Edit: I will say Ready or Not is still great fun in single player (if better with friends).

Re: Amazon's God of War TV Adaptation to Start Filming in Six Months

16BitHero

@naruball those are good and fair comparisons. Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to mind. Rockstar went for realistic character motion/movement but a lot of people found it a little sluggish and unwieldy compared to what we're used to in games. Like everything else, each game/TV show/film should be judged on it's own merits and will always be subject to personal opinions/preferences.

Re: Amazon's God of War TV Adaptation to Start Filming in Six Months

16BitHero

@naruball I understand your point but games have come a long way in the last 10-20 years in terms of storytelling and nuanced characters. Yes TV and film can be enthralling with the right set of circumstances but that's just it - the majority of game adaptations have second rate writers and underwhelming actors (much like the majority of Netflix shows and I suppose entertainment in general nowadays). Fallout is another worthy exception to the rule but you really need a good screenwriter and quality, well cast actors which most adaptations aren't getting. Money talks and they'll keep making crap if people keep paying to watch it.
