GTA 6 PS5

Rockstar Games has today announced Grand Theft Auto 6 will release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 26th May 2026, which means the game is officially delayed. The delay was confirmed in a statement posted to the developer's official website.

It reads:

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.

We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

Perhaps the most anticipated video game of all time, GTA 6 was originally announced way back in December 2023, and only that single debut trailer has been seen of it since. Rockstar Games at least teases it'll be sharing more information "soon" and it's found the excitement surrounding the game "humbling".

The knock on effect here is that other publishers now know GTA 6 won't be releasing this year or in the early months of 2026, so they'll feel a lot better about confirming releases dates for 2025. With Summer Game Fest just a month away now, we may see a flurry of release date announcements.
