Borderlands 4 still doesn’t officially have a price, and Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has insisted the decision is out of his hands.

But after the ex-magician put his foot in his mouth recently, implying that “real fans” will pay $80 to play the game, he’s vomited out a 500-plus word diatribe attempting to clarify his comments.

We suppose you’d call this an apology, but Pitchford only really says he’s “sorry” for the misunderstanding – not necessarily what he said.

“The absolute sincere truth is that I don’t want anyone to pay any more than they should or are comfortable with and I always work with the intent and hope that a customer always feels they got the better end of the deal no matter what they pay,” he explained.

The post goes on and on (and on and on), but he effectively admits his words may have sounded like he was taking fans for granted, and he accepts that’s a “super sh*tty look”.

“I’m grateful that anyone likes our games and humbled that so many fans show up to enjoy and support what we do,” he continued.

“As an artist I don’t want prices to go up because I want everyone to have access to what we create.

“I get that business is a thing and that the market and economy are driving prices up and sooner or later we’re going to have to all adapt to that so that the creative engine can make at least as much as it spends to provide us with amazing content.

“Whatever the case, I’m here to try to entertain people.”

The post just carries on like this for a few hundred more words, and you can read the full thing through here if you really want to, but the TL;DR is that Pitchford wants to deliver value and would prefer it if everyone could access his games if possible.
