@KoopaTheGamer you bring up hell divers 2 , they removed it because it originally didn't require it. so people had purchased the game already could no longer be able to play it , so to make every one happy they removed it. however this is going to be required from the start. like i said it is a playstation game , not a steam game, so yeah they can require the psn log in. if people don't like that then don't buy it.

@Zarok Facts isn't a defense , it clearly says retailers. It just feels like you are here to troll or bait , because facts seem usless to you when you are trying to say to buy digital games you can only buy off of their store. have you not heard of online shopping ? amazon?

@Zarok i'm sorry but stop with the misinformation , " sony has a complete monopoly over game purchases in his own store", in the blog post saying they are going digital , they said in the playstation store , and retailers. so clearly retailers are going to be selling digital codes of games again like they used to.

@Zeke68 other studios have done the same , i went to preorder re9 and held off till the next day , and it said i couldn't order it so waited another day and then it was on back order i would have had to wait over a month after release to get a physical copy , so i just went digital so i could play it at launch. other dev's have only done limited runs of physical and have sold out often.

how can the price be too high when there is no actual price for something that hasn't even been announced.

@KoopaTheGamer except a big feature of it is the online part , which requires a psn to play online, even on pc, microsoft requires a microsoft account for the their online games for the same reason.

its a live service game that requires to have a psn account to play since its a sony game. there isn't much to be upset about , they could just not release it on pc.

@UltimateOtaku91 i can't imagine it being that difficult to have the attachment fit on a ps6

@PlayNation5 while switch 2's approach is good , have you seen the prices of sd cards? i'm guessing they already have a bunch on hand , but eventually they'll need to increase production , which means they'll have to buy more.

i believe they had this limit when people were buying up all the disc drives when the ps5 pro was announced. and they were sold out for the longest time. i'm guessing people are also trying to gamble if the disc drive will be usable on the ps6 or not , so they are going to buy it before the price increases on it.

@Friendly and the ps5 was never advertised as being able to play ps3 games in fact , they always were honest and strait up about the ps5 not being able to play ps3 game nor did they ever make the claim it was in the works or something they were working on.

@StylesT xbox is going the same route , it looks like it won't even have a disc drive at all, and be a complete digital console.

@S1ayeR74 i hate to tell you this but parents rushed out and already paid over a thousand dollars for the ps5 from scallpers because their kid really wanted one.

@AdamNovice out of all the things i can actually see possible would be the retailers selling digital codes which sony did put in their blog post and mentioned retailers. as for ps3 b/c i doubt that , maybe some type of family sharing thing like steam or apple might be possible one day.

@get2sammyb wasn't the original closing of the ps3/vita stores due to payment issues? the both ps3/vita used a payment system that was out dated and it was either shut down the store , or find another way. then they decided to allow people to add funds from a ps4/ps5 or their pc web store as a work around.

@NerdyPaul sadly by the time it comes out 1k is budget friendly as memory prices are going to be even more in 2028 , the hard drive i bought for the sdd slot on the ps5 trippled in price in 2 years. so pc's can easily be 2-3k if not closer to 4k for something good.

is there anything actually in writing that says it won't have any type of disc drive because i haven't seen it yet. i mean by default the ps5 pro doesn't have a disc drive , but you can buy one and attach it to the console. what is saying they won't do the same for the ps6?

@Altaria_97 nah you are good , i think if people always agreed on everything 100% of the time the world would be a boring place , people shouldn't take the fact that some one disagree's with them personal , i never take it personal. i need to plug my vita in myself haven't touched it in a few years. i can't remember i thought there was a way to download games on your pc or something you can redownload them.

@Leinad7 no one ever said it will have no disc drive you are just assuming that , and the post clearly said retailers so that means best buy , amazon , game stop at least online will sell digital codes again.

@Yor-sama i mean for ps3 , as for ps4/ps5 , im pretty sure ps6 will have b/c for that , but i feel like people are over reacting to nothing actually being announced yet. such as the ps6 hasn't even been officially announced, i could easily see them doing the disc drive attachment for the ps6 for those who still have discs , including ps4 and ps6 games. which they've already did with the ps5 pro.

@Onelastgo its all good its so hot out i forgot also and had to look back , if you notice the game data needed to be installed even off the disc even from ps4 ( cod games ect) to ps5 final fantasy 7 games , being some of them , you already need to download and install so much , i feel like games are getting too big over the disc. while i still enjoy opening up the case and getting that brand new game disc smell , i can see why that digital is the future to most things and movies have gone this way with streaming and buying them from apple.

@Onelastgo which is why i said its one of probably many reasons why they are doing it. not to mention at this point the disc has basically become a key then something you play off of.

what people are clearly missing is the fact there will be a ps6 handheld and a ps6 home console , so going digital only makes sense because you buy the game and you can play it on either , i'm sure there are more then just that 1 reason , but i'm sure this is one of them.

@Mirage-5x5 the ps3 shop was going to close at some point its been 20 years , i can't imagine very many people actually buy ps3 from the store in 2026, and i highly doubt any one buys vita games as well. at least they gave a full year in advance for most places like Europe and the states , so it doesn't really give an excuse " well i didn't have time to purchase ps3 games from the store". i mean the ps3 store was still around when the ps5 has been around for almost 7 years , i doubt the ps5 store will be shutting down any time soon. lol

@Shinymoon until they say other wise , im pretty sure ps6 will let you attach a disc drive for b/c and movies. the second they say this and its the same disc drive the ps5 uses for the digital and pro , i'll buy an extra one for it. i did it for the pro then they ended up being sold out weeks later.

@Altaria_97 even if they didn't let you redownload the games and took that away the games would still be playable if you have them downloaded. how often do you boot up your ps3 ( assuming you have one) and play it? i feel like people worry about this , but never play any ps3 games. honest question really.

@JalapenoSpiceLife people keep going back to the moive thing which doesn't fit this at all , if it were the same it would be that sony would stop selling games on the their storefront for 5 years , then remove access to those games. i've seen plenty of games get delisted by i've never seen access to those games be revoked. even pt the tech demo was still playable if you had it downloaded on your console. you just couldn't redownload it.

@Nakatomi_Uk i mean they've been pretty strait forward and honest about ps3 games not having bc with the ps4 or ps5 , its not like they said it was ever coming. not sure why people keep expecting it.

@Runex2121 two different situations , sony didn't pull them for the sake of pulling them , they haven't sold movies since 2021, the studio pulled the licenses from the movies. I haven't seen that happen to actual video games , that are sold, that aren't ai shovelware slop.

@Nightcrawler71 tbh if they aren't making new games they could use the current disc drive they are selling now to play ps4 and ps5 games on the ps6 , its not like an upgraded disc drive is really needed from the current one.

@LastNorth_16 some one else brought this up , but it supports the whole portable unit rumor , so if you buy a digital game for ps6 you'll be able to play it on both console and handheld only buying the game once.

@AndyKazama i doubt they'll move on from amd they have a pretty good partership with them, and custom chips would be just not worth it at this point.

@GhostOkami i mean the obvious rachet and clank , killzone , resistance , infamous games , unless you already own those or can find used copies for cheap.

it will be interesting i'm guessing they'll let him release it on the ps5 as well, prob a game pass release on the xbox.

@LastNorth_16 the movies thing is different though , sony just rents those licenses from the movie company , so if that movie company decides to pull that license they have to remove those movies. however i doubt they would just pull a game for no reason i haven't seen it yet. other then the ai shovelware slop that should be removed.

@Rodimusprime13 did you expect them to have sales again? they kept it open so people could keep buying games , but its not like they have inventory to get rid of.
